The BVN regime will only enhance the security and interconnectivity of our financial data.

If someone fails to register within the stipulated time, the person's money is still safe. However, the person may not have access to any electronic transactions rather only cash transactions.

It will also help financial institutions track someone's credit risk as all the person's account will be linked to a single BVN.

The whole essence is to check fraud.

Central bank can start from my Ecobank account. Went to my branch to link my BVN nd the customer service lady was forming something something. Had to tell her to shove the account down her ass.

Am telling u bro. That ecobank is as worst as worst itself.. Didnt even bother to go to the bank for any bvn linking. They can go to hell with my account.

She opened the account exactly one year ago when the issue of BVN has not come up.

I believe she opened the account so as to have direct access to it. But then I used my phone number for the sms alert.

This is why I am worried knowing fully she had consistently put some money there for her upkeep while in naija.

Only if she trusted me and put her money in my account all this problem will not have been an issue.

Why she no go trust u?
Which is better, the money in ur account so that wen she comes she can access it, or the money in hers and she won't get access to them

check dictionary for meaning of deadline. if they can sue Mtn 5bn without remorse, blocking a mere Nigerian's account for not obeying the law shouldn't be a problem.

You see bro, the issue of BVN ending today or whatever na big story, na mumu go believe that kain thing. Shay you dey understand? If the money wey dey your sist. bank account nor fit flash mtn to mtn nor just bother to panic, just tell her to open new one. On the contrary, if her account is damn loaded and fat like rick ross belle or the money many like Nigeria problems just tell her to chillax. The deactivation package wey these banks dey talk about na just to make the bank account inactive. You dey feel me so, guy? So, if your sist. just wan collect her pepper back from her bank account she just need to provide some documents like the usual utility bill and valid id card only. Nor fear bro, we dey your back! If the banker nor wan give your sist. her money wey she work for, just holla me guy. Then the banker go tell me whether na hin work the money put for the account.

Thanks my brother. You lifted up my spirit. I have been worried because if she comes and couldn't collect her money, the financial burden will heavily fall on me, at least for some time.

Nothing will happen. The only problem is that you cant withdraw but you can put money in the account. The BVN process is continuous one according to a banker friend of mine. I live in US and the nearest place for me is 8 hours drive. I cant leave my job nor drive nor waste money to go and do it when i will eventually do it when i come to naija.
For me, CBN is a messed up entity. How can they ask those in US to go to only 6 locations in US for the registration? USA is as big as West Africa. And the companies accredited started registration only 6 weeks ago.

Thanks for sharing this. We Nigerians Like to scare people unnecessarily. I have heard so many things before I put up this thread. Thanks to the moderators for putting it on FP. I believe a lot of people within and outside the country will be better informed as a result.

No! on existing accounts

And yes! on future accounts. (E.g When a young child wants to get his first account)
On existing accounts, yes. The accounts without BVN will be restricted i.e no transaction of any kind allow on them until owners register for BVN. New accounts won't be open without BVN as it's has become a FOC for account and other banking relationships in Nigeria.

A customer service agent in one of the banks said you won't be allowed to withdraw until the BVN is done...until then the account is frozen! you can deposit but can't withdraw
