- A list of your projects will be displayed
- Click on the dropdown dialog box on the right side of the desired project
- You will be provided with three options when you click on the dialog box
Select, Request milestone and create invoice.
You should be able to handle it from there.

An onion seller suddenly noticed she has not seen a particular customer for a while, so she called the customer to find out if everything was okay. The customer was genuinely happy that the seller called. She also remembered HOW GOOD HER PRICES AND SERVICES were. Though she had no immediate need for onions, she told the seller that she will send her daughter to get some onions from her.

This may sound like an anecdote, but we all can learn from this. In this age and time, effective communication is about all we need to maintain any type of relationship - business and informal. We have people calling up their garri, yam, oil sellers on the phone, and telling them what they want. They will also say they won't come and collect those items by themselves, rather they will send someone. It takes a HUGE CUSTOMER SERVICE on the part of the seller to gain such TRUST

Bringing it nearer home, I will dwell on a little point that will highlight the importance of the bolded above.

How many of us are following our employers on FL? If you are not, you are missing a golden opportunity. But wait..... slow down. The hard work comes first.

Without GOOD PRICING, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, and TRUST, following your employer will not be of any benefit.

How many of us have bought an item from the market, and later saw where it was sold for 0.50k cheaper. Most times we feel we have been cheated without even checking if the QUALITY of the second item is the same as the one we bought. That is human nature.

Do you know that the gain market women make onba carton of beloxxi cream crackers is not up to N50? Why do they do this. They know they are in it FOR A LONG TIME. They know they are in a relationship-building venture. They know the only thing that can sustain them is a repeat customer. They know they can acquire many repeat customers by providing good prices, great customer services and trust.

So I ask, "how do you see your FL business?" How often have you seen a palm oil seller also selling cosmetics? As local and rustic as she may be, she knows her skill and specialization, and faces it with her full energy. Yes she knows that the restaurant woman down the road may be making more money, but she will never judge her the success of her palm oil business with the crowd in that restaurant.

I have seen many of us feel like they are wasting time with article writing because of the pay. Human nature. We've all been there. But do you realise that if you face article writing alone, and become so good at it, you can score writing projects of 100usd per 500 words. YES!! .....I know what you are thinking now. (On Freelancer?) NO!

Like ladywriter always say, article writing is like getting one's feet wet on FL. You are learning a whole business. You are learning pricing mechanics, customer service, skill development, international trade and finance etc. It is like any brick and mortar business.

You have American employers, how many of them did you send greetings on July 4? Or you do not even know what July 4 means to Americans?

If you do not want to get frustrated, have a realistic expectation. Do you know it takes some businesses from 6 to 12 months to break even, not to talk of profit? Patience man......patience woman. Rome was not built in a day. Do not take on skills you do not have passion for, just because you see someone making big from it. You may never be as successful. That person may have started 2 years ago. Pasion kept him that long. Are you willing to do it for 2 years before attaining that person's current success?

By all means, learn new skills. But make sure you are passionate in all. Passion is the only thing that will make you go the extra mile in satisfying your employers. Passion is the only thing that will keep you going when no jobs are forthcoming.

Following.

I may seem to have veered from the main thing I wanted to point out here, but all I have said so far MUST be realized before you can benefit from following your employer.

Once an employer you are following posts a new project, you will get a notification in your email with respect to that. FL will always tell us that our chances of getting hired by a former employer is very much higher than that of someone we have never worked for before.

Once you get the email alert, quickly check the project to see if it is within your skill and ability. If it is, then bid. This is where your integrity as a seller will either make you or mar you. If you have satisfied the employer previously, your chance of getting selected is high. If not, to your tents.......

I did a job for someone earlier this year. It was a Master's degree thesis. He wanted me to reduce the plagiarism content to less than 10% using Turnitin plagiarism tool. Only about 30% of the whole thesis was affected so it wasn't really a big deal. At my former rate of 2usd/500 words then, the worth of the project shouldn't be more than 50usd, and I could have finished it under 5 days. He simply told me he needed it in 2 weeks and offerred 80usd.

I did it in7 days, submitted it on the 10th day beating his expectations. His feedback was out of this world. We struck a good rapport.

He disappeared from my radar, and just last Monday, he posted a new project. I got the email alert and saw it was something I could do.

I decided not to bid. I rather elected to chat with him instead. (Please note that I have been sending hellos to him for months but no reply).

I started the chat and he was so happy. He immediately told me he just posted a project. He shared the details with me and asked if I can take it up though he only has 25usd budgeted for it. This is a simple proofreading of about 1000words job application letter.

He wanted it in 24 hours. I delivered in less than 11 hours.

They say, "Think outside the box."

I say, "Think like there is NO box."

My peopo! How d hussle? I believe this is one of the most helpful forum any where. There are some things I have seen on FL n I would have fallen into those traps if not for this thread.

Although I still be leaner for here but I believe I can offer some help.
1. You guys need to careful with employers that have neither made a deposit or verified their accounts: the newbie employers. Most of them don't know how FL works. There was this new chic dat posted a project, and everyone was bidding 'big big moni'. This chic awarded the same job to 5 of us, my bid was d smallest at 300. The others just dey bid like 500 or more doz. They were all also newbies like the employer, out of ignorance they all accepted the job, incurring a deficit of at least 50 doz on their accounts. As a sharp guy who has been properly schooled on how tins work, I no accept am.

2. If u are not going to accept bids, FL equally has a way of treating ur 'over-shakara'. If the number of bids you rejected or didn't accept is more than 25% of the total project u were awarded, u risk having ur account suspended. E.g if d total number of project I have been awarded is 10, out of that ten, I have rejected 3, there is a problem. 3/10 * 100= 30%, the maximum allowed rejection rate is 25%.

So while my first point says you should be wary of the bids u accept especially from new employers who u probably haven't chatted with, ma second point also says that you should also mind the amount of bids u reject cos if ur rejection rate is more than 25%, u risk having ur account suspended (at least according to FL).

3. I want lend ma support to tranxo's talk about good customer service. For me, the sweetest bid u could ever win is when you sit down n someone chats u up about accepting a job. I love repeat hires! I want to build a good network of repeat hire clients because to me, clients like that will give u 'guaranteed income'. You know when a club signs a player in sport n they say dat this guy's gonna earn $3million guaranteed earnings per year. it means even if this guy gets injured throughout the year, u will still pay him 3mil but he won't collect bonuses. That is exactly y I want a build a good network of guaranteed employers, with time I will be able to say this is exactly how much I will earn per month. Till now, I have at least 4 repeat hire guys n working on building more. Some won't necessarily pay huge amounts but they will ensure that u earn something.

So ma peopo, bizness is gradually picking up. At least now, I don't bid endlessly b4 getting a chat. I am definitely not earning what am worth but it will soon come. Chindinho, thanks for d mail but those sites get as e be. Peace.

Well said about chatting with an employer before accepting a project. That was how one indian guy awarded me a project, I chatted with him to set a milestone and give me project description and he kept mum. Fastforward to 15 hours later and still no response. I rejected the project after30 hours of no response, then sent him a message to re-award me as I rejected by mistake. My guy responded quickly and in less than 30 mins, I was re-awarded. He still refused to give me the project description or set a milestone so I chilled. The project ended up expiring.

If not for what I've learnt from this thread, I would have rushed to accept the project in my excitement of being awarded a bid and incured a debt. Then the employer could easily have given me more job than the money was worth as there was no clearly defined job description and I would have had no option than to complete it.

Wow!!! I've learnt a lot from this thread as a new freelancer, though I've not earned any dough, but I believe their shall be showers of blessing sooner than I've been expecting.... God bless all the contributors in this thread.

Well said, I can't remember the last time that I bidded on FL, employers beg me to work for them. Their favorite quote is "topsquino could you please assist me with my assignments" Agreatman, I think with time, you will earn more. Welcome to the club. If you package yourself well you fit they earn above $50/day. Also, remember, hard work pays less while easy work pays more ( speaking from experience), so avoid hard work like ebola virus and bid for jobs when most freelancers are SLEEPING (one of my strategies) All the best!
