The IGP is a civil servant and head of Police Management Team that executes the directives of the government and is in charge of policing in the country. The Minister is an Officer of the Government that acts on Behalf of the President. He formulates the entire policy of the policy, ensures they have necessary equipment to fight crimes, tranings, welfare etc. He also ensures that officers and men of the force are motivated. Most IMPORTANTLY, he ensures that the IGP and all those under the Ministry execute their duties. He represent the force in the cabinet and is responsible to the public on police matters in place of the President.

Omo, he's 10x more powerful and influencial than the Police IGP.

Both are directly under the orders of the president... There is a ministry of police affairs.. That alone is very much different from the police force entirely...

They are indeed different just like GMD NNPC and Petroleum Minister, but it is non contestable that the minister is Superior in rank and authority(though he has his limitation). In simple terms, a Minister is more influential than any civil servant whether Chief of Army Staff or IGP. The only TWO people that are more powerful than the minister are the President and his Vice.

The IGP is like every other CEO of Department and Agencies.

the minister might be influential due to his closeness to mr president(fec) but he is not superior to the IGP, none dish out orders to the other. Ministers in any ministry talks/advise the president, the advice if taken, is sent to the ministry head for implementation.

Can the IG for instance issues that all police officers be withdrawn from politicians and Can the Minister counter such from d IG?

That sounds like a bunch of BS. Are we still a colony that we have a minister of Police?

Why not abolish federal character and the need for every state (even those unviable and lazy) to have a minister because it hasn't led to development in 16 years of this quasi-democracy period that was filled with the same military leaders left and right.

Also, for the record, the Police IG is more "powerful" (if we must use that word) than a mere Police "Minister"

CBN is not a parastatal or an agency under any ministry, CBN is a regulatory body and thus cannot be answerable to any minister. The CBN Governor answers to the president

To know the person that is superior is simple by this analogy:
Assume your father has a company and he puts a woman to head it, the woman reports to your dad bah.
But one on the other hand, at home your mum and dad discuss how the company runs and how to restructure the company on bed on daily basis.
Now tell me who is more superior: the madam at home or the madam in office.
Likewise a minister discusses one on one with Mr President but an IG discusses through official letter or memo
You can now tell which one is superior.
