Reason Your D4 Is Blinking! by DonBobes(m): 7:37pm On Nov 01, 2015 |
For sometime while driving my honda accord i noticed my D4 is always flashing. I got worried about it so i decided to find out what. Reason is that it is short on OIL! Just the way your fuel starts to flash when it enters reserve. After i topped the gear oil i drove it round it stopped. So when next your D4 starts flashing check your gear oil. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

DonBobes: What year is ur honda accord and what oil did u top it with? |
Re: Reason Your D4 Is Blinking! by inze(m): 10:35pm On Nov 01, 2015 |
DonBobes: . . . you might have just succeeded in creating more problem than solving it. You need check for 'why' you had a shortage(might be a leak) then have that fixed, drain oil and refill with Original Honda DW-1. Having a mixture of different oil type in your transmission is a disaster waiting to happen. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

DonBobes: That's why I asked earlier what year of Honda accord and what type of atf u used. Using the wrong atf on Honda accord especially from 2000 models upwards is a disaster waiting to happen. |

Re: Reason Your D4 Is Blinking! by FestacGirl(f): 1:11pm On Nov 02, 2015 |
DonBobes: You better drain dt yama yama oil quick and Use Dw-1 ...Unless you want to buy a new transmission, tho ur tranny is not expensive . people who do routine checks on their tranny and even use recommended oil still experience failure , not to talk of you using another brand and also allowing the oil to get short 4 Likes |
Re: Reason Your D4 Is Blinking! by abatically(m): 1:19pm On Nov 02, 2015 |
DonBobes: U should only be using Honda dw1 atf. Honda recommended atf z1 but they have replaced it with dw1. My advice though, if the transmission fluid is already dirty, then draining and refilling might actually cause the transmission to die. So if u have a dirty tranny fluid that also smell like burnt, best is to continue driving it until it finally dies then replace transmission. If the fluid is clean then u can drain and refill with recommended one. |

Get your car scanned first. Most likely your shift solenoids are faulty or not performing well due to the wrong atf oil. What year is this car? 4 Likes 1 Share |

inze: Drain and refill still leaves you with a mix; greater part of which is the old ATF. |

For the books, there are just about two different ATFs in this world. Yes! The ATF oil and the CVT oil. What is ATF? It is a high grade synthetic oil with plenty detergent and dye, most of which are produced by Mobil. The automobile manufacturers do not produce ATF. They get the origininal oil company to brand for them, and then tell you if you don't use their ATF, your transmission will be fried. How many of them manufacture the transmissions they use? About five! You see Jatco transmissions in Nissan, Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Kia, Jaguar, Land Rover, etc. The same thing applies to Aisin and ZF transmissions that are in numerous vehicles. These manufacturers designate these transmissions or leave them with original nomenclature. All of them have their own branded ATFs for the same transmission, and we are meant to believe they are not interchangeable. The CVT is a different breed, and MUST be respected. This is particularly due to their belts, that must grip the variators. By any means, go ahead and use the recommended ATF; the above is for our education. 1 Like |
