akin3102: Hello, I applied for spring 2016 mining MSc. Yesterday, I spoke with the graduate director at the University of Nevada, Reno. The guy told me that my application for assistantship could not be granted because all the funds went with fall. He also said that no professor has contacted him about giving me an assistantship. So he told me that he could get me admitted but I have to assure him that I will enrol without the assistantship. I told him to give me some time. So brotherly, I knew you were admitted before you emailed all profs in your school and secured that half assistantship. I will like you to share a copy of the letter you sent to them. You can remove all vital info. What I want is the tone of the letter. my email is johnjbl10@gmail.com. I really hope this whole thing is not too late, though my mailing address is a US one and i20 can get to me really quick. A half assistantship is enough for me, the school doesn't run a doctorate program and those profs have strong industry links and research. Please house, anyone with details or template on how to craft the letter. My only marketable skills are: Excel, AutoCAD, Word and anything that involves writing. CC slimmy, bigfrancis, imperriox, zazeebee, bbdd and anybody else. I know this is not the normal assistantship route, but Akin3102 has done it on this thread and I believe I can replicate that. I would like to email them today. Thank you all. |

efizzy22:It is in your own interest to stick with the on campus job till your summer break, then you can do that. Save yourself the trouble, you cannot combine 40hrs/weekly job with 15 credits. You'll lose at both ends. |

slimmy05:What I have learnt in this forum is that Adjustment of Status through marriage for a Non Immigrant visa is an abuse of the system and is completely not allowed, even if the marriage is geniue. The best route is to apply for an immigrant visa from your home country. If the AOS is not approved, the applicant might be deported back to Nigeria That is my own understanding |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by Nobody: 2:43pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
tutolabiyi:I replied your PM already. I can help you pay via western union and it takes maximum 48hrs to reflect for you to print your sevis receipt. |

Slimmy05.... Hear this story, it happened to a Nigerian couples. I read of a couples who have been married for about 10years, they both have 2 kids. At a point, they all applied for visiting US visa and they were all granted However, they travelled, the wife travelled with her 2 kids, while the husband joined them later in the US about 1 month after the wife and kids went. I now read that the 2 of them are adjusting their status, that they suddenly got divorced, the husband now married to a USC in Indianapolis, while the wife is remarried to another USC in Minnesota. They were however granted temporary GC I read this from a particular forum, can't really remember where I read it. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by Nobody: 3:30pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
topejohnson72:Ofcourse, they can divorce and get married to whoever they want in as much as they can prove that the marriage is genuine and not for the sole aim of GC |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by bigfrancis21: 3:35pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
Amother4life: Like I said before, you are still repeating the same thing that I said earlier. Adjusting status via marriage is approved under 2 major conditions: the marriage is genuine and the adjusting applicant has not been found to have committed any serious crime such as terrorism or linked to a terrorist group thereof, or murder because then you will be considered a threat to the safety of the United States, your case denied and your deportation out of the country ordered. I never said it was automatic. The two major conditions I just mentioned I gave earlier. Most AOS applications are denied mostly due to 'fakeness of the marriage' or some heinous crime committed by the adjusting applicant discovered during the necessary background check. Speaking of the 11 million illegal immigrants: tons of thousands of them are adjusting their status every year but then there are many more illegals crossing the border every year entering the United States, thus re-enforcing the number of illegals already in the country, prompting Donald Trump to propose ideas such as stricter border controls implemented by erecting high-fence walls across the entire stretch of the US border with Mexico and Canada. Another factor being that there might not be enough citizens, in this case 11 million US citizens, willing to marry illegals or enough to go round each and every one of the illegals. A greater percentage of races in the country still marry within their own race: blacks stick with blacks, whites stick with whites, Asians stick with Asians and what have you. However, as in the case of the student in question, being out of status is NOT a requirement for the approval or denial of one's adjustment of status application. Contrary to your earlier claim, the USCIS does not often deny an AOS application because the applicant fell out of status. In fact, I am yet to hear of or see such a case as you have claimed. On the flipside, there is a success rate of, at least, 90% for all AOS applications once the marriage is proven to be genuine and the adjusting applicant has not committed any grave crimes. Most denials are because the marriage was discovered to be a fake, the applicant has some serious crime record or due to something silly on the part of the filing applicant such as incomplete filing or incomplete required documents. Over speeding or jaywalking does not qualify as serious crime. The only advantage being in status offers when adjusting status is the faster processing of your application compared to those out of status. In as much as we think that we know, let us try not to give false impressions about issues, especially regarding the United States. The United States is an entirely different place from Nigeria and false information goes a long way to negatively impact one's decisions, progress or growth in this country. If I am not too sure or knowledgeable about a subject matter, I would rather not talk about it and pass it by rather than mislead others by providing false information. I am not knowledgeable in every subject matter and only speak on matters I that I am aware of. On a final note, be it known that I am not advocating for anyone to fall out of status to go adjust status by marriage, however, I am only telling it as it is and I would not give a misrepresentation of what the reality on ground is. 2 Likes |

slimmy05:But to me, it shows their marriages is for the sole purpose of getting a GC How can the couples just get divorced after getting a visiting visa, and suddenly travel to the US and getting remarried at the same time to a USC Isn't this suspicious ? |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by bigfrancis21: 3:49pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
topejohnson72: No it is not suspicious. That is not how the system works. Adjustment of status by marriage MUST be to a US citizen or green card holder. In the case of the Nigerian couple, none of them was neither a US citizen nor permanent holder and even getting married to themselves here in the US does not qualify them for a green card. And you cannot be already married and be getting married to someone else for the green card. It is against the US law. This should explain to you why they had to divorce to individually marry different US citizens for their permanent residency. |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by bigfrancis21: 4:09pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
topejohnson72: This is one of the reasons I have advocated on this forum against the misrepresentation of facts on this forum. This gentle man has formed a very wrong impression of how the US system works based on someone else's misrepresentation of facts, which in turn, affects him in making the right decisions if he decides to settle in the United States. NO, applying for an immigrant visa from home is NOT the 'best route' to adjusting status. It is only one of several alternatives to adjusting status because the adjusting applicant is not physically in the United States. This is applicable where one spouse is already here in the US and is a citizen or green card holder but the other spouse is abroad and the spouse in the US decides to bring the other spouse over or/and the children. A typical example would be, Chidi, who has a family back home, who comes to the US on a student visa for his masters, joins the US army 2 years after and automatically becomes a US citizen by virtue of joining the army. Next he decides to file for his spouse, any children if there are, and possibly his parents or siblings. In this case, his family members filed for would be invited by the US embassy in Nigeria for an interview and afterwards given their immigrant visas upon a successful interview. This does not apply to single individuals. If you have no family member in the United states who is a citizen or permanent resident, you have zero chances of obtaining a US permanent residency through this means. On the other hand, you have those who arrive in the country as single individuals who adjust status mostly by marriage, or by work visa sponsorship and later green card, or by asylum or by setting up a business and investing at least $500,000 (mostly Jews that do this) etc. You have more individuals adjusting status via this means than those coming in on an immigrant visa. If you plan on coming to the US at some point in the future, it is imperative that you arm yourself with the right information. Even if you do not believe somethings on this forum, please use google and visit the USCIS website directly and you would find the right information that you need. 1 Like |

musabones: No problem. Always be sure to ask questions as you just did before you do certain things in this country. The US is very different from Nigeria in terms of administration and is very strict about their due process. |

Hello all. My interview transcript first, then my question. Exchanged greetings. V.O: Pass your documents Why Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham. Me: Cuz it's the cheapest of all the schools I was accepted to and the cost of living is also lower compared to other states. V.O; Which other schools were you accepted to? Me: Answered. V.O: Why this course Me: Cuz I see myself as a leader in my profession in the future and I believe this course will prepare me adequately. V.O: Who is sponsoring you? Me: Answered. V.O: What does your sponsor do? Me: Answered. V.O: Your visa has been approved. ...... P.S: Didn't even request to see bank statement. On a lighter note, prior to my interview a gentleman was been interviewed; he was going to visit his father-in-law in America without his wife. When asked about his wife he said she was DOWN. He was certainly denied. To my question, is there anyone also resuming Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham in Spring 2016? I'm trying to get a roommate ahead. Perhaps is there someone who's presently schooling there who can guide me concerning accommodation? Please contact me. Cheers all. 7 Likes |
