A little a55 whooping is always in order to set the child straight. Teacher please carry on. Damilola please leave story. I have seen children that don't just need flogging, they need an exorcism. . I ain't having non of that naughty corner crap. I attended a boarding school. The teachers will flog you in class and seniors in the hostel. Not small brustain o. All that blockus and bull story about the child dieing, story. I was there for 6 years and nobody died from the cane. Upon all the flogging sef, boys will still connect live wire to the metal bunks when the teacher is coming, and hope they get electrocuted. . And we all turned out great and strong and sharp which are also good qualities needed for survival. 2 Likes |

MadCow1: Are you sure this isn't over reacting? Teachers have their own kids too and won't want to kill another's child. Except a few reports of abuse cases here and there, you really can't say that is the norm. The overseas countries you are competing with seems to have lots of regrets now, not with incessant cases of gun crazed violent upsurges in schools. Is that what you wished for your offspring and our community? As for the actress who said that, she is little more than a child herself. Many parents these days should take parenting courses. The bible says: Spare the rod and Spoil the child......It never said "rodding" is the sole exclusive of the parents. We want to raise a responsible generation of children. Remember......Egba la fi ng yo were to di s'aya omode. 1 Like |

Discipline my child not abuse him. You beat my child I beat you. Only me sabi beat my child in love. Don't tell me your helping me to correct him by beating him. After all not all children that were beaten turned out great anyway. Nigerians like to over compare. western society has also produced great minds without beating. Boko boys don chop better cane, but still they are there killing and raping. Let's respect each others opinions, you want your child beaten, your business, she wants her child not beaten and declares it on her own page, her business. 4 Likes |

I'm with her. Discipline doesn't always have to mean violence. No one should hit my child. It won't end well for him or her. I'll make sure of that 2 Likes |

What a bunch of lazy teachers. Who licensed them to teach anyway? So the only means of correction they know is hitting and flogging.Anything short of that, they'd have to call the parents to come do? It would be nice if our dear country made it mandatory for nursery, primary and secondary school teachers to have taken classes in child psychology as part of the requirement for getting a teachers license. We won't then be seeing teachers who know nothing about how to communicate with kids except to hit them into obedience. Essentially teaching them that violence is the way forward. The solution to problems. How absurd and twisted. adahib: 3 Likes |

Princess4eva: Lol.. I will point out some flaws or oversights in your post. 1. Teachers indeed do have their Kids and all worth not, however that does not mean they will immediately translate into good disciplinarian. I belong to the generation that grew up under this flogging culture. We got flogged for all sorts. For coming late, doing poorly on a test, improper dressing, speaking vanacular in school, not cutting our nails, fighting, e.t.c. Infact there were only about 4 forms of punishment in school and they go thus; 1. Flogging 2. Kneeling, squatting our some other form of painful and dehumnizing exercise. 3. Cutting grass 4. Suspension 5. Expulsion. Flogging being the obvious choice for most. Well, I feel it's wrong. African kids are never given the chance to even explain why something is the way it is. Once the teacher sees something wrong, it's the cane that is the obvious solution. I went through junior school being scared for my life. That fear translated into my school work. It didn't matter how much I got flogged, I just could never pass some subjects that easily especially mathematics and how could I? When I am seated in a class with 50+ other students, being taught by a teacher who just breezes through the course like everyone learns at the same pace and then sets this ridiculous tests and expects us all to pass. Imagine a case where 95% of the class flunked a test and we all got whipped for failing. Not a single blame was passed to the teacher. Now in the Nigerian education system, what room has been created for students (like me) who suffer from one form of learning disability? My younger brother also suffers from an attention deficit disorder and was failing badly whilst in Nigeria until he moved overseas where his teachers spotted the problem. And they were only able to spot this problem because they were just a handful in the class. And when they did, they didn't correct it with a cane, they fashioned out a way to keep him learning and enjoying it. He told me of a teacher who would even let him leave the class for a bit and return to continue learning. I was flogged like a thief by our music teacher because I kept missing the keys during music practice. Well guess what, the fhucking piano was made of wood built by a carpenter. The fhucking piano replica produced no sounds whatsoever. And then when I am called to play a note a fail, I get a ruler hit hard against my fingers. Our music teacher broke that wooden "made in Calabar" ruler against someone's fingers. Imagine the force required to break that ruler and wonder what that person who got struck felt. Needless to say, I hate music till this day.. 2. Please drop this overseas gun crazed violence excuse. You can't sit here in Africa and fully grasp the problems with the U.S.. (Note, the gun violence in schools is mostly prevalent in the U.S and not the entire west). How many school shootings have you heard of in the U.K or in Canada or Australia or New Zealand or France or Netherlands, e.t.c.. The issue in the U.S is that the guns are just too fhucking many and the gun laws are lax. You can work into a Walmart and buy a gun like it was groceries. The children are also not protected from guns in the homes and some parents even start teaching their kids how to handle a weapon from a very early age. But slow down a minute, don't we have gun issues in Nigerian School's? All these cultism issues in our tertiary institutions nko? Are those not the same kids raised under the stick you are clamouring for? So if the children we are raising with sticks still grow up to become hardened cultists that shoot people up, hack them to pieces and stuff, why then are we quick to point fingers at the U.S? Or because CNN no dey report our own? So you see.. Flogging is not the solution. Plus why does the only form of punishment used the most by teachers involves beating children with a stick? Can't we think of a less destructive means to punish erring students? 3. The Bible said spare the rod and Spoil the child.. Fine, the bible says a whole lot more and I will show you one amongst others; Deut 21: 18 “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, will not heed them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his city. 20 And they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; pso you shall put away the evil from among you, qand all Israel shall hear and fear. I guess we should also start stoning our rebellious kids to death as well na. Let's get serious, these are not biblical times. Child psychology has been studied and we know more today about kids than the Biblical era people ever did. Again.. I am not against disciplining my child, but when it involves using a rod, let me the parent handle that. You can give the child detention, menial labour and other non contact forms of punishment, but let the parents take sole responsibility for whipping their kids. 14 Likes 4 Shares |

baby4u2: I agree with you in part Do not with hold discipline from a child if you beat him with a rod he won't die. Its better for you to know you tried and failed than not to try at all. If I was the father of a boko boy and I didn't discipline him I'd feel bad, but if I did I'd feel "less bad" (mind my language) knowing that every child is reborn by the word while they grow and the choose there path in life no matter the training they were "given". Beating isn't the best way to train a child but beating may be helpful at times. Good morning 2 Likes |

[quote author= post=39643717]Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite-Attoh has issued a note of warning to teachers world wide or continent wide,lol..... lets be a little bit specific. Damilola, who is married to Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh, took to Instagram to lament teachers who beat their students. According to the Tinsel star, any teacher that beats her kids will “face the devil.” She wrote: “I’ve been hearing so many stories of teachers physically abusing their students. If any teacher as much as touches my son, they will meet the devil face to face. Leave the disciplining to parents. Educating them is your own responsibility. Give them an inch and they will take a mile. Kmt.” Shut up! I presume all ND went to skul, we were all beaten by teachers in various capacities depending on the offence. If u tink a teachers' cane ll kill ur child pls don't send him to skul. Teachers cannot do without the cane in the class, in as much as students cannot do without misbehaving |

CEOplexy: That's a lie. I attended schools where flogging was not allowed and I grew up to be a model citizen. My parents beat me where necessary to correct me. I will never allow any teacher flog my kids. If you try it, I will ensure you sleep in a cell. Only myself and my husband are allowed to touch my kids. Nobody should pour out their frustration on my kids. 1 Like |

This is why the country have spoiled to the extent that I weep for this country.how can a parent, say that a teacher should only educate a student without instilling discipline when required.gone re good old dayz when even our teachers will flog us in advance.nd when we ask dem why,the will tell us u didn't do anytin Alex but am sure u will do sometin.so am flogging u in advance.lol.but all dese young nd over pampared kids.thier parents see flogging them as taboo nd that is why those kids do anytin they like with the mind that the highest punishment they will get is either to go nd sleep against his or her wish or to go to London instead of America she requested for.please parents always allow ur kids to be flogged.most kids now don't greet thier elders, especially the ones they feel they re better than financially.lets change our ideas parents |
Re: Damilola Attoh: “Any Teacher That Touches My Son Will Face The Devil” by kizyalex10(m): 8:31am On Nov 04, 2015 |
I believe most people supporting this idea of no flogging are the over pampered kids.government secondary school owerri is one school that will nt spare the rod.this whole idea came up when these private schools came up with all these ideas jst to win the heart of a parent.because the competition to get students to ur school is high.so dey pamper the kids to stupor.i served in akure where kids in ss1 can't even write a note.but yet they will pass thier waec.because we were compelled to solve the waec for them. private schools don't even write the position of a student in his or her report sheet. |

Re: Damilola Attoh: “Any Teacher That Touches My Son Will Face The Devil” by londoner: 8:38am On Nov 04, 2015 |
I agree with her simply because Nigerian teachers generally abuse their position to reprimand children. Many actually abuse and bully children. Children get beaten for everything even not answering correctly. I can imagine the amount of children being beaten because they simply have a learning difficulty or learn differently. If you know you will be beaten if you answer incorrectly it will make you nervous and even forget the right answer. Nigerian teachers actually need to be retrained on how to teach and how children learn. If a child you have taught has not grasped or understood what you have taught you need to take a look at how you teach and how that child learns. Allow the brighter students to lead study groups for which they get positive recognition. Not mini bullies in the name of class prefects. This whole thing of anger or beating at first chance plays itself out once these kids become adults. Nigerians seem to be constantly angry and will insult or become aggressive both verbally and physically with the slightest provocation. Whether the bus conductor, policeman or politician in the house of assembly the only way they know is anger and violence. Let them learn another way. 1 Like |

4reala: The truth is every child listens, at least from my experience. If you start correcting them from a young age and teaching them obedience, then you wouldn't have issues. But some parents, when their children do something wrong they just look away and say oh he's just a child. The child grows up thinking its alright, or I can get away with certain things. Then the parent suddenly thinks you can flog the bad behaviour out of the child after he or she is grown... It doesn't work that way. There's a woman that has just one daughter, the girl is rude, she's only 3, and its very easy for you to overlook it, she just keeps going ah omode ni, ko month (she's a child she doesn't know) if her mum has an argument with anybody in the area, If the daughter sees the person she'll just eye you and walk away, and the mum won't scold her. I can imagine when she's like 8-10 her mum will now carry cane saying she's teaching her to be respectful, when she's already failed now. 2 Likes |

Exactly....if you are consistent from day one you won't need someone to beat your child. After a while the child will just absorbs the beating and will have no effect. That is why if you beat you always end up doing it repeatedly. 1 Like |

I am a teacher with 9 years experience in the industry. I have worked in both local and international schools and I made bold to say that as a teacher, many parents will not prefer flogging as a good option since most children given birth to today are test tube and breed-like fowls children (Adiye agric . So, if you flog, you may burn your fingers. From my experience, most parents that kick against this means of correction do nothing to train them at home. The extreme they go is to cease their game consoles and phones. A child that has good home training and fear his parent will not do any silly thing that will cause his teacher to report him. Charity begins at home, so they say. From experience too, I have seen flogging (when used appropriately) making dull children brilliant and I mean it. I worked in a private school as a teacher and hostel master. Students there don't fail WAEC because you must know "book" by force. The force is cane and it is working for them. Yes, this they do in love and the students also know why they are being flogged. I have seen flogging making a child better and another, adamant when not properly used. As I read people's submissions on this matter, I realised that teaching profession has been relegated to the mud. If a parent can call the teacher of his child a beast, then it means there is no respect of any kind for those in the profession. To such a parent I say, it takes a beast to know a beast! Hers is a family of beasts that beget beasts. My fellow teachers, please it is high time we treat ourselves with dignity and honour. Most of these parents are so useless and indiscipline and that's why there children take after them. Learn to deal with them professionally. If a child is constituting nuisance in your class for whatever reason, isolate the child! Let him/her sit at the back all alone. If he continues, send him out of your class. Be strict and firm. 2 Likes |
