Adesiji77:My brother, I needed to assist my mother just this morning to make her bid and was shocked at what I saw as results of the last auction. 10.14% for 180days and 8.7% for 91days, if my memory serves me right. I was shocked to say the least. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Tinyemeka(m): 9:56pm On Nov 02, 2015 |
kristien4:TB auctions are held Wednesdays bi-weekly. This week's Wed 4/11/15 is an auction date. So you can save the date and count every two weeks henceforth. Your instruction must however reach your banker before 4pm, the Tuesday before. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by feelamong(m): 8:02am On Nov 03, 2015 |
Adesiji77: You are very correct.....this auction will even see lower rates.......see below the info I got from one of the banks I deal with yesterday on the system liquidity at the moment. Money too Much!! The Treasury Bills market opened with a continued and aggressive rally on the back of a robust system liquidity. This led to some short tenor bills losing 150bps. However, by close of trading, short and mid tenors lost about 70bps while the long end declined 35bps on the average. Barring any external shocks to the system, the bullish sentiments should continue to hold sway until system liquidity thins out later in the week. |

Did you mean ''10.14% for 180days and 8.7% for 91days'' are calculated base on period of time or annual? Skye, Uba & First Bank promised 5-6% and it is calculated per annum. I was able to meet up with an Aiico Capital representative she promised me 13% but will still calculate my return per annum. i.e Principal x Rate x Time divide by 365. Was looking for a fixed rate for any period of time!!!

Tinyemeka: 1 Like |

kaylous: The rates are per annum. Longer tenors usually attract higher yields. |

kristien4: You're partially right. The auction holds today (4th Nov. 2015) but the conclusive report wouldn't be out (usually) until tomorrow (5th Nov. 2015). So, tentatively, we can put that the next bidding would hold between Wed. 18th Nov.2015 and Thur. 19th Nov.2015. But to get in, you table your bid request latest by Tuesday 17th Nov.2015. |

Hi Guys, Rates have really gone south. Result of stop rates for today's auction- 91 days - 5.8269% 182 days - 7.9880% 364 days - 9.4800% hope some of you won. . . . lower than most expectations which were around the 6.0% - 6.5% mark for the 91 day bill? |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coolguyz(m): 3:24pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
xplicit01: Really? Guess its from their portfolio they are holding at a higher rate cos they wont get that from the primary auction. But again why sell at 11% when they can sell at a lower rate in the market and make cool dough as some of my guys did |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coolguyz(m): 3:26pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
ganilat4: the bps stands for basis points. mind not all these technical Treasury jargon. it depicts the percentage change either up or down 150 basis point = 1.5%, Just divide by 100. . . . hope i've helped? |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coolguyz(m): 3:27pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
Boblanre: Nah! Results could be obtained same day bro. i just posted it some posts above. . . .validate tomorrow and come confirm cheers |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Boblanre: 4:51pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
coolguyz: Yeah, thanks for the correction. One can actually get the results on the same day. The issuance and settlement processes are actually what take place on Thursday. But the fact remains that the entire exercise of auction; issuance of letters & settlements are done across two days (Wednesday, Thursday). And that explains why you see some people 'randomly' quoting the dates for Wednesdays or Thursdays. Please note, kristien4. |

coolguyz: I think you're much knowledgable in this sector. I have a question to ask. Q: I walked into Diamond Bank on the 30th of October, 2015 and booked/applied for a TB for about 6-digits at 9%. Some hours later I received a debit of an amount less than what I opted for. Now, the Customer Care lady said(I think that's how it works too) that I would get an upfront interest credited after the transaction. But, till nlw I am yet to get such alert. What could be the issue? Hope I am in safe hands? Please kindly explain what might have gone wrong or right? I appreciate. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by feelamong(m): 6:43pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
electrify: The way Tbills work is that you are debited for the discounted value immediately. so you have your upfront left in your account. at the end of the agreed tenor the face vale (principal invested) is then credited into your account. so my dear...there wont be no such alert until your TBills mature. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Damolaskynov: 6:58pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
Hi house, Just got informed that GTbank was not successful at today's bid. I bidded for 91 day tenor at the bank's rate, will have to look for other opportunities to invest as T bills doesn't look too rosy for now. Will keep following the trend here sha |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by feelamong(m): 7:02pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
Damolaskynov: Seriously I think Tbills are as dead as dodo now! Its time to go and look for more risky investments... however I have just confirmed that one can still gate up to 11% in some banks FDs. as for me na to begin go studio to record my new album! |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:19pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
feelamong: Wow! So nice and explanatory enough. I guess I got it all wrong. I was actually paid upfront. I just forgot the period was (174/365)days, and not just the Principal *Rate. She was actually right. I did the Maths now and found where the balance and debiting ish were from. #I guess I owe my Maths teacher an aplology....lol. T'was an error from me sha. All the same, thanks, man. I'm grateful. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:27pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
^^ In retrospect and without regrets, the TBills dividends is actually 'poor' after the corret Mathwork. I was expecting a better figure. I never knew it was this amount sef...lol. Nonetheless, it's better than fixed-deposit or even the regular 3.9% savings ish. |
