The important thing is not reactivating those centers. The important thing is to get Nigerian youths to forgo quick money and have the patience to learn and practice with little pay before claiming they are professionals. The process of apprenticeship - to - jointman or journeyman (worker no longer an apprentice and work for someone who still monitor his work) - to - master must be entrenched. Problem is no Nigerian youth have the patience to even complete the apprenticeship talkless of horning his/her skill before claiming to be a master. The foreign mason, pop workers, tile layers, etc our construction companies prefer all went through this process. So it is not only about training, they must have the patience to practice before becoming proficient 4 Likes |

Lol, Only jobless and fake Construction workers from European countries now risk coming to Nigeria for work. No European skilled engineer can come to work in Boko infested Nigeria, no matter how much you want to pay. |

Mogidi: but they have been doing that to Nigerians in other countries. even Ghana deports Nigerians. all foreigners should go cos they re not much use to us, we re the ones that do the labour work and they only sit in the car and a/c offices and give instructions, if they leave we will manage our country ourselves. we serve them in their country and we also serve them in ur country so wats the use for them to be here? |

These are problems that would be solved by restructuring our wider system of education, to include at it's core science education in native language. Indeed, Africa cannot develop without investment in grassroots science. 1 Like |

[quote author=Mogidi post=39753426]This guy is a joke, Buhari is grossly incapable of leading Nigeria. This was the same failed method Buhari used in the 80s by expelling 700,000 migrants, did it help our economy? Buhari should be told you have more Nigerians in Ghana and other west African countries than you have aliens here. Expect tit for tat reactions from our neighbours.[/quote oga because u hate buhari and APC, does not mean u critiscize him unjustly |

Re: Buhari Moves To Block Influx Of Foreign Construction Workers Into Nigeria by Mogidi: 11:37pm On Nov 06, 2015 |
kayalla: Buhari tried similar tactics in the 80s by expelling 700,000 Ghanaians, what good did it do to our economy or to the unemployed? This is grandstanding by an inept and direction-less President. This would only appease our patriotism but nothing else, if it didn't work in the 80s it wouldn't work now. I don't subscribe to European Technicians posing as Engineers here, but the people Bubu wants to repatriate are West African artisans. We signed ECOWAS protocol on free movement for a reason and those in fear of repatriations are brick and block layers, carpenters, painters, welders, fabricators, plumbers. Those jobs can hardly be described as jobs by Europeans. What happens when our neighbours retaliate? |

erico2k2: Ok let me clear your, down here with JB it is either u bring a letter of recommendation from a serving top government official or a serving senator, some one they can seek favour from if the need arises. I was just a young copper then with no connections. But I later got a job with a government agency where part of my work schedule was to vet and recommend their structural drawings for approval or disapproval. |
Re: Buhari Moves To Block Influx Of Foreign Construction Workers Into Nigeria by Nobody: 11:41pm On Nov 06, 2015 |
Mogidi:Only if you know how many artisans are brought into the country on a monthly basis to work on construction site. I worked on a DFID project some 5-6 years back. Dangote had to import over 3000 Chinese artisans for a particular construction site because the Nigerians available were not skilled enough. we do not have a proper vocational/trade schools to train Nigerians in trade skills like carpentry, welding, pipefitting, iron working, electrical, instrumentation e.t.c. Imagine if the 3000 Chinese workers were Nigerians, do you have an idea of how many mouths the earnings would feed? |
Re: Buhari Moves To Block Influx Of Foreign Construction Workers Into Nigeria by babadee1(m): 11:42pm On Nov 06, 2015 |
BlackrulesDworld: You're a clown. Nigeria that barely has any manufacturing sector is the one you're saying can survive without any importation. We barely produce anything of our own apart from some food items. If you ban all importation the economy will not last up to six months before collapsing. |

Re: Buhari Moves To Block Influx Of Foreign Construction Workers Into Nigeria by Mogidi: 11:47pm On Nov 06, 2015 |
saxywale: If there were Nigerians capable of doing those jobs, Dangote wouldn't go to China to recruit. Lets train enough Nigerians before asking the immigrants to leave, except we want shoddy work, in which case we can ask them to leave and deploy substandard craftsmen to do jobs meant for qualified artisans. |

speedyGonzales:It's not always possible except you want the company to close shop and leave the country. A good example is in the oil fields, philipino, Indians, north americans, and European trades people are flown in as expatriates to calibrate instruments and work as roughnecks. why not Nigerians? There are Nigerians but very few. It takes at least 4 years of training (trade school and work experience) to become competent enough to work on some of these equipments that cost thousands to millions of dollars. |
