I'll keep saying it, we put too much value on money in Nigeria, the standard of living is so bad, I don't blame people that try to escape through the Mediterranean sea.

People are suffering, it's only in Nigeria a woman will sell her baby for 50k, don't blame her, you don't know what she has passed through.

Nigeria is messed up and complicated.

Mindfulness:

I don't agree that everything is based on struggle - in fact I believe that great achievements come from a place of ease, joy, passion, enthusiasm and pleasure.

So much philosophy, but zero feasibility.

Can there be enthusiasm when you have no motivation?
Can there be pleasure when you are in pains?

Poverty is like the dementors in Harry Potter, it's presence absorbs every atom of joy you ever had.
I know you haven't experienced this before, so it's easy for you to weave out diabetic philosophical assertions.

The resources of the earth are immense. There is enough food for everyone. There is actually more food than we need.

Since the resources on Earth are not equally distributed, there can't be enough food for everyone.

It depends on your focus. My focus is on the beauty of life. Life is good. I love life so life loves me back.

Have a beautiful weekend. wink
Your focus is largely dependent on your condition. You can say life is good because you have everything at your disposal or because you are a little bit privileged. But those people down the ladder of the society will always see life differently.

If there's something that gives me joy in life, it's when I help in in my little way. Givers absolutely never lack.Life is beautiful when we help those around us . Sometimes I always winder what it will be like to have millions in my account, I may not even be happy, There remains a void in my heart when I see people living in abject poverty.

I have a true story to tell.
I happened to meet a young girl if about 12 while in school. I came home from lectures to see her moving around my hostel. I asked why she was there and she told me she needed to see one of my hostel mates who obviously is not around. From the disappointment on her face, I asked her if everything was fine. She narrated to me a story about how hungry her family was, and the fact that her mom sent her out to borrow money from my mate. I asked her to take me to her mother. It was an uncompleted building and I didn't know how somebody can live in that kind of place with grasses everywhere. I feared for snake bites as I approached the mother.I gave her quite a fairly good sum and told her not to return it . The way she thanked me sent a deep knife down my spine.I wish she never did, it made it even unbearable because it broke my heart even more

As I was living the compound in a haste for fear of snakes, a iron rod dragged my leg, almost ripping off the last toe on my left feet.

This part of your story is what fear people most from helping ..that shouldn't deprive us really from helping..we just have to do, then never turn back .

to be honest your big heart is worth to be commended . we should always do what, what we can to the needy .kudos to you!

On the last part .you listen to love songs , Which impeded love inside of you. I think it has to start from Nigeria musicians , they should try to preach more love on their songs. not just that loud and I want to shaye of a thing.

I like the last statement with so much vigor. I'm not here to throw stones but any religious body that is in affluence and refuses to acknowledge these ones on the street is not from God. Matthew 25:42-45. Thanks Mike I'll and OP

Well as good as the post may be.. In Nigeria, it is somehow difficult to be kind because we have seen cases where evil was paid with good and it gives us another instinct about being kind to people but nevertheless poor people should not be neglected.. We just have to understand that all fingers are not equal and we are not created the same way but if you have decided to do good, do it wisely

My dear, if she cooks the indomie for the son.. After eating it, where would money come from again.. Don't you know that the profit from the indomie is to cater for home needs and the capital to buy more products.. You don't spend your capital in business and you don't eat up your business.. Hence, you will be left with nothing.. Peace out

Hmmm, the suffering is real. That's why when I feel depressed thinking life is unfair to me, I take a walk look at pple who wld wish to be in my position, then I give myself a mental slap for being an ingrate, and thank God.
There wld be no poor person if the rich pple give to the less privileged. There are some pple who are rich enough to feed and take care of a whole town but rather than do that they prefer spending in frivolities and looking for ways to amass more wealth, the rich gets richer and the poor poorer.
In a Country where some don't even know what to eat the next day, someone publicly boasted of making her goat hair with close to a million every 2 wks. That is how vain pple are, we are all about enjoying this World to the fullest, not minding there is a poor mother somewhere crying herself to sleep cos she can't feed herself nor her children who even half of the money we waste without 2nd thought wld make a lot of difference to. It is well.
Let's all ensure we do the little we can to make things better for the less privileged. Personally I av an habit of giving out alms to the poor any time I go out, and even from my provisions give out to pple I know can't afford it. If we all do the little we can, we'll make Nigeria a better place.

U're very right but I'm not in support of ppl having so many kids if they can't take care of them...I hv seen a low income earner with 2 wives with lots of kid's living in a single room...I'm not God to judge but I'd rather help someone else who truly deserves the help..

It's very easy to spot the less privileged ones. They are around. You can pick a family of five and give them something through your pastors or religious bodies.

That is why I am shades when people send gifts to religious mensad.

In my family, we used to cook once in a while just to give out. It is not much but it is something. Monetary gift is not excluded, instead of giving that Imam or pastor N50 000, change into smaller denominations, hand it out on the street. Give your less privileged neighbours something during festivities.

It is in this same Nigeria, you find people defending known criminals that build their bloody wealth on the back of the poor.
The likes of tinubu are virtually untouchable on nairaland just because he happens to be part of the ruling party and from a certain ethnic group.
Crazy people.

Awards and accolades and titles and even more gifts for the super rich and nobody cares to ask them what they are doing or can do that'll be beneficial to the poor masses.

Its always a case of someone that buys the latest N100 million range Rover and it makes headline as an achievement and nobody cares that a fraction of that money will feed a hungry community of the poor and impoverished for months.

Most of the American celebrities that Nigerian Yeyebrities emulate own charities or heavily support charities.

Am sure these have churches they go every sunday, Some churches have wealth in millions of dollars while most of the members live in abject poverty, they should preach to themselves before preaching others! Yes charity begins at home.
Why Nigerians are so heartless, ungodly and so insensitive to the plight of the masses, if not why would a church need a mansion or a private jet before it can preach the gospel of god, are they worshipping money or the lord? A question needs to be answered here. Why the money won’t be invested into the lives of fellow Nigerians
Did they forget the proverb that says that an idle man is a devils workshop or “a hungry man is an angry man, if they really want to change people they should start by changing their living condition.

Thank God I stood by the various decisions I have made in life despite peer pressures.
For your information,

I don't do shoprite or any big shopping mall.
I don't have permanent fashion designers.
Sometimes, I trek and jettison transport.
I don't do big saloon for my hair do.

For all these, I patronise locals. Call me names, I won't blink. I always feel joy within when I interact with the less privilege and also do the little help I can do.

God bless your soul sis.... You shall never lack the good things of life.

Nigeria is not a place you can just buy things and give the needy or homeless people anyhow
It wont be long before they accuse you of using their fortune for money ritual
Not that most people are not ready to help the needy but Nigeria is complicated
Imagine giving out 50naira to the homeless man under the bridge but he later went ahead to sell your 50naira at the rate of 1000naira to those who need it for money ritual to use your fortune

There are homeless people and there are demonic agents, destiny changers and ritualists posing as homeless people. And if Jesus had your mind set he wouldn't have come to die for the sins of mankind or he would have died for the jews only. I say this because you said you don't help especially yoruba homeless people that you perfer other tribes. Yes, I caught it before you edited your post and that is a horrible thing to say.

So much hardship in the land!

It's such a pity, some people will still prefare to go to shoprite, spar and the rest than patronize kiosk owners by the road side.

When we go to Shoprite, whatever price we are given for a product or item we pay without batting an eyelid. When we want to purchase from the woman by the road side, whose total gain from the amount she tells us is a meagre 30 naira, we revolt, make to leave so she calls us back to sell at her cost price, trusting God for better days.

My pastor brought this to my notice and ever since, my behavior permanently changed.

May God help us to be good and considerate all the time.

hmmmmm

It makes me remember d day i was traveling back to school. On getting to the park, a young boy probably not more than 10years rushed towards me asking to carry my bags.....i allowed him carry it. When we got to d bus dat was loading passengers...... i jst removed 100 naira frm my pocket and gave him and i told him to keep d change.....God, u need to see d smile dat came over his face. He was so happy dat he thanked me repeatedly.....After he left wit excitement, I entered d bus and started thinking abt wat jst happened, dat does it mean dat 100naira can bring so much joy to someone out there, and here am i complaining dat i didn't have money to buy new clothes, phones and other stuffs ...after all, i still see food to eat and i still have somewhere to rest my head......hmmm. That occurrence really changed my attitude towards giving, most especially less privileged ones.
May God help us to stop all this squandering of wealth and take a moment to remember the less privileged ones in d society.
