CONTD...

Alawo also died about the same time and was succeeded by
his son Ladipo. Oyedokun, son of Bioku, however, was a bad
ruler ; he soon disgusted all the chief men in the town. When
he could no longer be endured Ajadi, the next man to him as ruler,
left the town with a large following and founded a settlement at
the foot of the hill, leaving He Bioku to Oyedokun and his party.

In order to avenge himself for this defection Oyedokun sent to
Ibadan to invite an army to destroy the new settlement ; but the
Are Latosisa, then at the head of Ibadan, sent one Aiyeleru to
reconcile the two parties, but he failed in bis efforts and returned
to Ibadan.

Very disturbing news, indeed!! LASU is a state-owned university, why appoint an outsider to manage it, when there are more qualified, knowledgeable, trained and distinguished high-calibre Yoruba professors, at home and abroad that can do a wonderful job??! shocked

It would have been preferable to bring on board, a foreign-based professor serving in any of the top universities abroad to come back home and run this university, using sound precepts based on international best practice.

At this current time, LASU is not even among the top ten universities in Nigeria, talk less of Africa. It still has a long way to go. Even smaller private universities like Babcock Uni and Covenant, are doing far better than LASU and have won local and international awards for their work. wink

This move by Ambode is not going to help LASU one bit. Those folks from across the Niger have a habit of populating any establishment they get into with their own ilk, to the detriment of others. I am not being tribalistic here, just saying it as it is. undecided

May God save LASU from all its internal and external enemies. The university just seems to be drifting from one controversy or crises to the other! A case of one week, one trouble!

jstbeinhonest:

Ok, but they should appoint a substantive head as quickly as possible, who should be one of the brightest chaps around that can steer LASU on the path of greatness.

What's the name of the book? I need to buy it. From what I've read, it seems it's the genesis of a lot of things among Yorubas.

Interesting read thus far.

It is Samuel Johnson's 'History of Yoruba'.

A very interesting book indeed.

IlekeHD, so ya Ekiti folks aligned with Fulanis to lord over Yoruba land, no? grin

More reason why you have to twerk that batty to appease the gods on behalf of Ekiti. grin

I will get back to you on the emboldened.

Ekiti did not align with the Fulanis in the literal sense of it. Rather, they had their own bone to pick with the Ibadans at the same time Fulani had their own agenda.

Ekitiparapo against Ibadan was a battle for the balance of power in order to prevent the rise of another Oyo style throne and military that controlled the entire Yoruba landscape.

Top 10 Best Bukas/Restaurants in Ibadan

No. 10 – Diamond Restaurant, UCH Ibadan
I spend lots of time in UCH and whenever I am hungry, Diamond is my favorite place. It is located across First Bank and adjacent to the hospital’s water department. It is exactly beside another restaurant popularly called Alhaja which is also good but not as good as Diamond.
What I love about Diamond restaurant is the organisation, space, timeliness, meals, aesthetic values and pocket-friendliness. My best meal combo is as follows: Jollof rice + fried rice – N100, salad – N50, meat (agemawo) – N100, moinmoin – N50, plantain – N50, plus Amstel Malta — N120.

I know this place. It should not even be on the list at all. Very rowdy and you'd find people holding out plates struggling to have their orders taken like some refugee camp. I won't advise anyone to go here.

No. 9 – Ose Olohun Food Canteen, Trans Amusement Park Shopping Complex Ibadan
Let me say I discovered the restaurant by mistake. When I went to Trans Amusement Park for relaxation and to write the piece on the poor state of the park, my companion caught the aroma emanating from the restaurant. The rest, as they say, is history. With N400 you will get a good satisfying meal.

Never been here but heard of it.

No. 8 – Ola Mummy Food Canteen Bodija Ojurin
This should be one of the well hyped restaurants in Ibadan. My first experience was when a friend came from Lagos to eat there. I wondered what was special so I followed him and I knew exactly why.
The vegetables and oily soup looked tantalizing. The assorted meat from a wide selection of wildlife animals were seductively displayed in one of those wide aperin pots permanently on woodfire. As if that wasn’t enough, the pounded yam was well pounded and amala was well done. No wonder people from all works of life regularly park all kinds of cars – from the latest Ford Explorer to the oldest Keke NAPEP at the restaurant.

I heard the food here makes a lot of sense.

No. 7 – Amala Skye, and Ina Straight Near Cultural Center
I never heard about Amala Skye until a friend who stays in USA told me about it. The last time he was in Nigeria, he visited the place. I am also adding Ina Straight to this category because they seem to be on the same level to me and I have lots of restaurants which means I can’t give them separate levels.
This is what my friend said about both places. “Everyone talks about the amala on Twitter but i don’t see what’s different from other amala dishes I’ve had in my lifetime. It’s good amala… But at the end of the day, it’s still amala. I don’t understand what the hype is all about.. Nothing different from Amala Inastrait, near cultural center.”

Ah! The place of choice for U.I folks.
The food here is good but I think the place itself is overrated. Choked up sitting arrangements and the usual oil stained hand sinks lined up in the hall's walk way.

No. 6 – Soups & Sauces – Are, Bodija Ibadan
A female friend introduced me to the place. What I love about it is the vast variety of meals. It is a classy restaurant that serves local cuisines in the best manner. I love their porridge, Tanzania rice, beef and chicken. If you don’t mind the cost, you would love the tasty meals that are always hot. They have a branch at Cocoa Mall although I still prefer the one at Bodija any time.

No. 5 – Domino’s Pizza Ring Road
I love pizza a lot and the fact that Domino’s is in Ibadan is one good thing, the fact that it serves good pizza in a comfortable atmosphere is another thing. I enjoy their high quality services anytime. The members of staff are hearty and make you feel at home while spending your money and you have a wide variety of pizzas to choose from. There are pizzas for starters and some for professionals. The sitting arrangement is also nice and if you are as free as I am, you get to enjoy the outside eating experience there. Read more about the place in the piece I wrote on an evening at Domino’s Pizza

No. 4 – KFC Bodija and Ring Road
I love both outlets equally for different reasons. Bodija for the meal, Ring Road for the space. Sometimes there are lots of people at the outlet Bodija and you are forced to just buy your meals and leave. But if you want to spend quality time with family, friends, and loved ones, the outlet at Ring Road is the best place to go to. Last year, we held the birthday party of my younger brother at the branch at Ring Road. It was very nice. Check out my experience at KFC Bodija and what I think went wrong with the one at Cocoa Mall.

No. 3 – Shoprite Kitchen at Cocoa Mall Dugbe Ibadan
Many are in love with Shoprite’s bread which tastes good. But what I love more are the meals being prepared and sold at the kitchen section. There is a wide array of meals to choose from but here are my favorites – rice that has lots of stuffs from the sea, fried rice, beef + stew, chicken of various sizes and types, the list goes on. The snail too is special even though not all customers are aware of that, but I do love them.
Anytime I am hungry and I prefer to eat in my room, Shoprite is the place for me to buy food and leave. When Shoprite decided to open its largest West African store in Ibadan, I visited and bought the foods there. They also taste so good – just like the ones at Dugbe which made me believe they have a recipe book in-house.
The ladies at Dugbe are also hospitable and calm. If you are dating anyone of them, count yourself lucky.

No. 2 – D & D Restaurant at Airport Road
My first experience was when I landed at the airport on a trip from Abuja. I realised no one was at home to cook, and other outlets were afar. I didn’t think I had enough energy to go that far. So I wandered around the junction at Nigerian Breweries and, alas, I made the best discovery of my entire food eating career. lol.
D & D is not the expensive kind of restaurant, in fact, it is operated by a family but the food is sweet. I ate pounded yam and turkey. I literally licked the plate. The entire meal plus Fayrouz cost just N400.

No. 1 – Champ’s Restaurant at Heritage Mall
I am a loyal customer of this eatery and I regularly go there because of the scenery, quality of service, meal, layout and so on. The meals are expensive though, but I think it is worth it. When I call it the best restaurant in Ibadan, I know what I am saying because I have eaten at lots of places but no other restaurant take health seriously like they do. Their foods are not too salty, or over-laced with Maggi. The fried rice comes with vegetables and orisirisi that your body will be happy with.
If you can afford to eat there, please do and share your experience.
The place is owned by a white guy who sometimes serve the meals himself when they have lots of people waiting to be served. The TV is always at SuperSports – something to keep you busy while you wait for your food. They will also bring to you your ordered drinks first so that you won’t just be sitting there unattended to while they prepare your meal.
They serve a wide array of international cuisines which is why it is the restaurant in Ibadan that enjoys most patronage by foreign nationals

It appears the person who compiled the list has not heard of Iya Aduke joint at Iyana Ashi (my favourite) so I'll unclude it in the list. cool cool

The rest I struck out are places I rarely or would never go to (except a chick is in the equation grin grin grin). What are in these places to grub, really? I grew up eating some of these things and I just find them repulsive at this age. I'm now much more attracted to traditional Yoruba meals.

Why I am bringing Dinosaurs to Lagos — Adeyemi

Adjunct Professor Olufunmilade Adeyemi is the visionary behind this initiative and is working with a team of consultants from Italy, USA, UAE and China in birthing this novel tourism haven. He speaks on the project.

Is Nigeria ripe for a residential amusement park?

The theme park market worldwide has grown dramatically during the last decades. For example, in the USA (where most of the theme park trends originated), theme parks have more than 200 million paid attendees each year. This strong consumer demand has resulted in the development of many parks. These parks are not only growing rapidly in size and importance, but also are investing substantial amounts in new entertainment and facilities, and extending their services into relatively unexplored areas such as catering and accommodation.

Also, Asia is the theme park market for the new millennium. Even more, several Asian cities, like Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, want to become ‘tourism hubs’, and theme parks are central to these plans.

Although in the Asian countries a shift from hopping centers to theme parks can be seen, the opposite can be observed as well indicating a growing role of retailing in existing theme parks. The relationship between merchandising and theme park visits clearly has potential for further growth, and the advantages of stimulating this demand are becoming increasingly recognized by theme park operators.

They are racing to obtain more profits out of their rides, activities and exhibits by linking rides to merchandise and placing goods at spots where visitors are most likely to buy, and that is close to the key rides, activities and exhibits The objective is to give people a part of the park to take home and share with others.

In Europe most theme parks were built in the last 25 years. First, theme parks were more a Northern Europe phenomenon, but recently, several regions and countries in Southern Europe have supported the growth of theme parks as an attractive option to increase economic input. Due to all these new parks built, the theme park market is saturating.

Consequently, the competition in the European theme park market is growing. Not only in terms of the growing number of new other parks, but also due to other uses of leisure time and discretionary expenditure such as home-based entertainment systems. Managers of large theme parks are concerned about the scale of the investments required to add new exciting rides, activities and exhibits to their product. Especially, a golden rule is that a theme park every year has to expand their park with a new attraction, to attract the required level of visitors European theme parks invest in average twenty percent of their turnover on new or better rides, activities and exhibits.

Nigeria with its population and young population is ripe for this amusement park and the Lekki Dinosaur Park, powered by the Crownsworth Nubian Company is set to give Nigerian families quality entertainment.

How soon will it materialise?

This project will take 18 – 24 months to be completed and has in its expertise line up, engineers and consultants from the United States, Greece, China and indeed Nigeria.

What kind of wild animals will the park offer?

The park will have over 40 animatronic dinosaurs, created from the same makers of the dinosaurs seen at the Jurrasic park movie.

This projects aims to give Lagosians and Nigerians alike quality entertainment as well as boast Nigerians family livelihood which is something lacking.

Ekiti new market to gulps N2bn

Ado-Ekiti-Following the demolition of Erekesan (Oja-Oba) market in Ado-Ekiti Saturday, the State government has promised to build an ultra-modern market in its place within the next 24 months.

The market which was pulled down at the early hours of Saturday morning, was set ablaze recently, following a violent clash between drivers and Hausa people in the state.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr Kayode Osho, who was on site when the demolition started, reiterated the resolve of the state government to also give preference to former shop owners when the new market is built.

As early as 5am Saturday, bulldozers already stationed at the market commenced the demolition while many passers-by and marketers watched and others packed up the remains of their shops.

Osho said that the demolition and excavation of the market premises would last for two weeks after which construction of a modern shopping mall with all the necessary facilities, would begin.

He also assured that in 24 months, the mall would be ready, adding that “the project is already accepted by the people and would continue to benefit the people: the Oba and the Ewi in council supports as well as well-meaning and prominent Ekiti indigenes have all accepted it:

“Compensation was done in collaboration with market owners and in line with standards in the industry, about N120 million was expended on compensation for affected traders. The project of market will be gulp about N2billion. It is going to be an elaborate shopping mall with many other facilities such as filling station, police station, motor parks, and banks among other social infrastructure.”

The Commissioner also assured that over 1000 shop owners who have lost their shops to the reconstruction would have their shops back after its completion: ” we already have the list of those who have lost shops and they would be taken care of, and there would also be many other shops as we are going to have over 700 shops to be constructed in the mall,” he said.

Many of the traders in the market lauded the efforts of the governor, saying that he is a good man who understands the needs of the common man.

Mr. Adeoye Adeyemi, popular as Oluomo Sketch in the market and a trader of shoes, said: “Fayose is a good man and his time is very good for us. This market is going to become better. God would continue to bless. He should continue to remember us. We thank him for the great good he has done for us.”

Hon. Olasehinde Omotosho, former councillor of ward, Ijoka, Ado-Ekiti, said : It is a welcome development. There is nothing we can do. The government has compensated the marketers, we only need to thank his Excellency, because the project is for the masses, when the market is been constructed I hope the people will enjoy. It is not the first time this will be happening. I urge the government to facilitate the project.”

Sorry I can't quote you cos I'm mobile and the page is a tad bit sticky. That said, I don't think an effective tax policy can work in Lagos for now - due to lack of database. And that population is just too much for anything tangible to be done.

I will use London as an example cos that is my city. London is twice the size of Lagos but the population of London is less than half of Lagos'. And despite the world class road network; the highly effective underground and rail network; the first class public transport; the trams; the tunnels; the ferry etc...you honestly don't want to be caught in traffic during rush hour in the city or on the motorway to any of the satellite towns around London.

Emphasis: twice the size and less than half the population. So if London has to deal with that - where is the succour for a place like Lagos apart from massive depopulation?

All the links you provided are not empirical enough to validate your myopic assertion, sorry!

Read through my threads & posts since 2008 and come up with more valid point.

The Deities Are 401.

Okanlerinwo Irunmole.

I'm Beginning To Love Traditional Religion. I always appreciate the Traditional Religion during World Ifa Day at Ife and Olojo Festival at Ife.

My Ilare people are going to be missing seeing Ooni during Olojo Festival, the new king will be going to the Ojaja Royal House instead of Olodo Royal House during the Olojo Festival.

Oodua A Gbe Wa Ooooooo.
