Yeah there is a skeletal Naval presence there and they are also potential tourist destinations in Ipokia aside from Tongeji such as Ilashe, Agosasa, Ijofin etc. I am of the opinion that the Ogun and Lagos state government build a build a bridge across the lagoon separating Ipokia and Badagry. They can both partner together and attract investors to this area

True words! I foresee some nice chemistry between Ambode and Amosun though.Fashola was a stubborn man so the chemistry wasn't really smooth especially when Lagos and Ogun state were dragging the ownership of Ode Omi.Ambode is calmer even though he's more concerned about his Canon Camera than any other thing grin. That's our own "Becky Oloye" grin grin cheesy

Yeah I heard the place has a lot of tourism potentials,Same with Ode omi. There's nothing you can't find in the South-west trust me.

I remember Amosun warning the FG against any form of laxity that could make Nigeria lose it to Benin republic.I hope we don't experience another Bakassi

I believe the Nigerian Navy is protecting it as we speak

Ogun State Elders Consultative Forum (OGECF) yesterday tasked President Mohammed Buhari to ensure more presence of federal government in the Tongeji Island in order to further ward off intrusion of the Republic of Benin from the oil-rich border island.

Coordinator of the Forum, Aremo Taiwo Alimi gave the charge in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital during a press conference heralding the 10th year anniversary of the Forum.

Alimi, who was flanked by other members of the anniversary committee of the 125 – member being chaired by former Justice of the International Court, Hague, Prince Bola Ajibola said if schools, hospitals and link bridges are built in the area, such would give residents a high sense of being Nigerians and at the same time, ward off the Republic of Benin’s inordinate desire to usurp the nation’s rich resources.

The forum further emphasised that the recent visit of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Ibikunle to Benin Republic was in part due to the Investigative reports of OGECF on the Island.

Alimi said a link bridge if constructed, would connect the Island to the nearest mainland in Ipokia, Headquarters of Ipokia Local Government of Ogun state, and spared the people of the pains of circuitous journey of first entering Republic of Benin before accessing their Nigerian Island and mainland.

Alimi noted that the said reports which were submitted to Governor Amosun and the President, gave the two leaders insight into the situation of things at the Oil – rich Island and said this in part, informed the visit to the Nigeria’s french speaking neighbour by Buhari.

According to Alimi, a renowned journalist and broadcaster, the visitation saved Tongeji Island, from being annexed by the Republic of Benin as the report was acted upon by the President.

FAshola seems to me like a self centered person that wants all the glory. What stops him from partnering with Ogun, a sister state.

My dislike for him was born out of Lagos position at the last national jamboree or is it national conference. Lagos was against the regional system of governance being proposed by the SW delegation.

Really? Well it wouldn't have mattered though.Whether Lagos agreed or not, the North would still have rejected the Confab report

Yeah.

I do not think presenting a divided proposition was the best and it was setting a bad precedence.

Exactly! Of all the states in the South-west, Lagos is the most important state to us and them rejecting the regional system of governance leaves a lot to be desired and that was a Fashola who was much more stubborn and assertive.I'm even more worried about this Ambode guy .The guy never skips his photoshoot

I still find it ridiculous that Ambode made the best performing Governors rating

Who's in charge of that rating?

What are the yardsticks?

What has he done?

But why are these smaller countries always trying to take Nigerian lands though?

This is strange cos I've never seen smaller countries cheat the bigger neighbour.

N.gger-area!!

The only thing these suckers know how to do is selling oil and looting the proceeds. grin

What happened to even protecting the territorial waters of the country with the navy? Since the place is an Island and there's encroachment, a normal and functioning country would build a naval base there. But these clowns are heading to hague again. The same hague that ceded Bakassi to Cameroon. Hysterical. grin

You know low-key I'm happy with the fact that we lost Bakassi. After all it's supposed to be part of the red mud region grin grin cheesy so who cares. They should just make sure the same thing doesn't happen to Tongeji island

Lol. I believe the folks from Bakassi are the same as those from Calabar and are distinct from the pikeys. Anyway, they're all Bantus all the way to Southern Cameroon - Bantu expansion. grin

However, it just shows how weak a country Nigeria is with all the loudmouthed folks. Nigeria is big enough to make all these small countries play ball. If they head to Hague, they'll lose this one as well cos of the French. France and Germany dominate the EU.

But you defo need to take that anger out on one of their chics, like FFK does. grin

Anyway, I think Calabar folks are decent. I go to some Calabar restaurant from time to time and the folks there are supremely nice and cultured.
