AlexReports:
Nneze Richards, a 22-year-old graduate of Accountancy from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology has joined the league of Nigerian beauty queens.

The Enugu State-born beauty emerged winner of the Miss Independence Nigeria beauty pageant held in Abuja on Friday, October 30.

She represented the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Toyota Corolla car star prize of the competition organised by Abuja based Link-Up Entertainment Company.

The pageant was graced by top entertainment personalities, including popular comedian, Klint da Drunk, and Nollywood actors like Femi Branch and Sir Sidney Diala.

First runner-up, 21-year-old Susan Michael, from Ogoja in Cross River State, was crowned Miss Independence Nigeria Culture, a position which makes her culture ambassador for the country.

Michael, who also represented Cross River State at the pageant, is a second year student of International Studies at the Federal University, Lokoja.

The second runner-up is 20-year-old Zoe Enabs, from Edo, who also represented her home state in the contest. The final year student of the University of Benin was crowned Miss Independence Nigeria Tourism.

Linda Nnamonu of Link -Up Entertainment told journalists that the company took up the challenge of organising the Miss Independence Nigeria Beauty pageant seven years ago to promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, her colourful costumes, unity, patriotism, peace and to celebrate the country’s vibrant youths to mark October 1st Independence Day.

According to her, the pageant which is meant to be an annual affair is just one of the worthy causes Link-Up Entertainment is committed to.

“We are also committed to promotion of education with special target on rural areas. Our target is to help upgrade standard of education given to the children living in rural areas through our outreach programme Outreach to Children in Rural Area (YOCRA),” Nnamonu said

Which independence? The past one or the coming one? Campaign after election. Nigerians like wasting of public resources on irrelevant things.

Lmao. Na so so beauty contest them know una for, Miss Market, Miss Lacasera, Miss Oshodi, Miss Keke Napep, Miss Molue, Miss Container, Miss Subsidy, Miss BringBackOurGirls, Miss Spaghetti. grin grin Her mates are there, being entrepreneurs, trail blazers in their fields, inventors...una dey fight untop beauty queen title! Abeg, I can't laugh this morning jare grin grin Why would any right thinking Yoruba be jealous of these pageants? You're giving your clan way too much credit. cheesy

Whether you like it or not, she/they has/have achieved something for herself/themselves. If not for anything, for the cash award and the cars. Many of the ladies use those avenues to launch themselves into modelling and become brand ambassadors of some companies by reason of the publicity it brings to them.

You talk as if most Nigerian girls are entrepreneurial. How many successful young female entrepreneurs have you met? Did I hear you say inventors? Like seriously? Please can you name one female inventor you've heard of in Nigeria, let's not even mention from the Yoruba stock? Many of our young graduates scramble for jobs of 50k and less, and here you are vilifying girls who have achieved something by reason of their natural endowment.

As for the pageants, most of the organisers aren't even Igbo, so it's not like crowning Igbo girls most of the time has an ethnic undertone. These girls often merit it especially when you compare them to their fellow contestants. Of course, they often aren't the most beautiful girls around, but they usually look facially more beautiful than their rivals.

You are simply a hater.

Please calm your pants down. cheesy I guess you had selective blindness when the person I quoted said "Yellowbars won't like this" as if Yoruba people even dragged the crown from her or insulted her in any way. Talk about being an hypocrite. I only responded to what the person I quoted said. Stop spazzing please. It's too early in the day for that

They keep winning Miss this, miss that with nothing to show for it. Even a blind man knows when it comes to beauty in Nigeria the Hausa fulanis are top even when unpolished. They keep winning Miss Nigeria but never get to the top 50 when they go contest outside Nigeria.
