Hello crystalf, I have been following your thread, and am really interested in cultivating some vegetables including tomato. I want to ask, is it possible to grow tomato in Asaba all year round considering that Delta state does experience high rainfalls which I think is not conducive for tomatoes. What do you think.

I would advise you not to grow tomatoes cos it does not like too much rainfall.

You can try out cucumber and others

How about watermelon will it thrive in Delta? Or is it affected by heavy rainfall too.

It will thrive.

Does not like too much rainfall. The rainfall shld be moderate and it needs enough sunshine.

Okay , thanks.
However what I have noticed in Nigeria is that not a lot of people think of greenhouse farming. Places like Kenya have massive greenhouses that they use in cultivating vegetables and for commercial rose flower production.
In as much as it is expensive to construct a green house over 2-3hectares of land for vegetable farming, I think it has a lot of benefits for all sorts of vegetables to be grown all year round and therefore better productivity.
We are looking into setting up a moderate green house and then monitor production.

Thanks. Have you considered Greenhouse farming for your tomatoes as they will give higher yields per year.
