Shymm3x: The debts are NOT the problem,SS-the most vaible region according to the stat-occupies 6 out of the first 9 most indebted states. The problem is that, our workforce(salaries) are too much for our meagre monthly allocation.

jstbeinhonest: The debts are a big problem. SS states are rich states and they have the luxury to acquire debts. These Yoruba states don't get that much, what are they doing with such debts, when they have nothing to show for it? Anyway, the biggest problem there is the ability of states to meet recurrent expenditure. All Yoruba states, except Lagos, are being run on budget deficit, with recurrent expenditure alone - and that's without capital expenditure. So how are these states thriving then? These folks are the biggest rogues ever. We need new leaders and a new party. Why some of them haven't made the forbes list is a mystery to me. 1 Like |

I was really disappointed with the sustainability index statistics. to be honest, there's no governor in south west that's doing excellently well. I don't just know the reason. I can't remember the last time any south west governor won the best governor (or related). even in terms of ranking. all sw Governors Are so passive. even in the last administration. (thanks to fashola) all they do is piling debt upon debt with nothing to show for it. the most irritating one is there inability to pay worker's salary. Are we suppose to discuss that one? sigh 2 Likes |

jstbeinhonest: I don't think that will solve the problem. I think all these states have a man-made black hole created by those governors to loot money cos no sensible administrator would be running a state with a recurrent expenditure that's higher than the revenue the state generates. It doesn't make sense. If they're actually borrowing money to build projects that will generate revenue, then it's understandable. These folks can't run a business, else they'll run it into the ground. They're useless. Effing loafers and a disgrace to humanity. All of them including their head honcho and his frog face. 3 Likes |

Lack of foresight, begets chaos. The premise this nation has built upon would never allow it, to move forward ever. Forced unity can only last for so long. Biafrans (as they refer themselves) were forced into staying Nigerians after their first attempt of seceding. The first trial is all that's needed to sow a seed that will continue to bear fruits season in and season out. No matter how long Nigeria lasts, unborn generations from the SE will continue to be a pain to the Nigerian establishment. They will and can never be satisfied with Nigeria, someone will always try to avenge the deaths of his/her kinsmen whenever they feel they are being suppressed, in our time or the future. Massob, and as of recent Ipob headed by Nnamdi Kanu are testament to my account. Nigeria needs to let go of Biafra, and a possible result is the total disintegration of Nigeria as we know it, which is fine, it is not a do or die affair like many take it to be. We can all separate and focus on developing distinctly. I'm Yoruba, If Biafra wants to go, I say the Nigerian Government let her go, so that the important things in life all Humans regardless of race, religion, tribe long for have can be achieved. let all Yoruba on NL stop giving undue attention to Biafran threads, and stop unnecessarily projecting a "can't do without the you attitude." They seriously think Yoruba can't do without them. And what concern of ours is with SS being a part of Biafra anyway? 2 Likes |

Shymm3x: You've said it all Duke. Our SW governors are useless and shameless. Fashola kept borrowing till he left office, yet most of the capital projects which he borrowed for were not completed. Truth is, the IGR and allocation from FG are not in proportion with what is on ground. The useless Tinubu did not help matter either, he never cautioned the useless governors to stop borrowing so far they are paying their monthly dues. The bastards have mortgaged the future of SW states with debts. Fashola as far as I'm concerned is an over-hyped achiever. He left hundreds of billions of debt for the Clueless Fat Boy. It's quite unfortunate we find ourselves in this mess. All the states in SW are owing. Imagine osun state owing 52bn. Too badt. We really need a new political party in South West. AD/AC/ACN/APC and PDP have failed us. FACT. |

You now know the reason why Aregbesola is the worst thing ever to happen to Osun State. So much debt and nothing to show for it. I do not have a problem with governments taking loans for infrastructural development, if they are sincere enough. My problem is Aregbe took the loan, stole the bulk of it, mortgaged the state, the citizens are repaying without any commensurate infrastructural development. 1 Like |

From the table above it can be deduced that Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Katsina and Enugu are the top 5 states with the highest leftover cash even after meeting monthly obligations; while Osun, Plateau, Ogun, Nasarawa and Oyo are the bottom 5 states as well as the states with the greatest inability to meet monthly payments without having to borrow. Perhaps interesting to note, is the fact that Osun state's monthly shortfall is larger than the monthly shortfalls of Ekiti, Bauchi, Abia, Kaduna, Zamfara, Imo and Gombe, combined. On a region-by-region basis, it can also be deduced that: 1. In the South-South, all other states are green except Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom. 2. In the South-East, Enugu, Ebonyi and Anambra are able to meet recurrent obligations, but Imo and Abia are unable to. 3. In the South-West, Lagos is the only state currently meeting its recurrent obligations while all other sister states, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun and Osun, are unable to. 4. Taraba and Yobe are the only North-Eastern states without monthly shortfalls 5. Niger, Benue and Kogi are the only North-Central states currently without shortfalls. 6. Zamfara and Kaduna are the only North-West states with shortfalls. SOUTH WEST GOVERNORS HAVE FAILED US. INCLUDING THE USELESS Tinubu. THEY ARE NOTHING BUT FAILURES. I WILL NEVER CELEBRATE MEDIOCRITY, NEVER.

Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Shymm3x: 12:03pm On Nov 13, 2015 |
zimoni: That's exactly when I'm scared for Fashola for taking two massive portfolios. Anyone who followed his tenure in Lagos closely - without the world class branding, publicity, and media campaign - would know that Fashola is overrated. Then again Lagos is overpopulated and effective governance is impossible in that state. Anyway, that's his problem - it won't be long before those singing his praise start cursing him out. Like a wise man once said, "the mouth they praise you with would be the one they'll curse you with". I believe that's why these folks want the huge and unnecessary population in Lagos to mask their incompetence. With all the assets in the state, you don't need that huge population for maximise IGR, if well managed. But Lagos is out of it cos they can always tout the IGR vis-a-vis the debts to save face. But the debt is just too freaking much. As for the rest of the SW - they have finished Yorubaland. So these mofos are running the states on a deficit from recurrent expenditure alone? They all need to be stripped nak3d and whipped like the Ondo youths did the fraudulent Eze. Tinubu and his minions have finished Yorubaland. Who'll pay back all these debts? There are no welfare programmes in these states, so why is the recurrent expenditure that enormous? |

9jacrip: That's why I don't post to these accursed political jobbers - they're selling away their own future and the future of their kids for a plate of porridge. The Passingshiit of this world and his amala brain and ar3sa the heifer stuck on Tinubu's balls like pubic hair. I despise these vacuous miscreants. They have destroyed Yorubaland. I honestly don't know how these states can be salvaged with how they have mismanaged everything. I've never seen a case where recurrent expenditure alone is higher than revenue - never! It's just basically earning £2000 monthly, and spending £3000 - what type of fvcked up life is that? Who does that? |

My God ...This has really gotten out of hands.Oh my... These people have really messed up the SW big time.I personally do not support any political party but I have been reading this political conversation behind the scene and to my utter dismay, the debt thing about the 5 SW states had really spoilt the taste in my mouth. AS of 2012....This one was from the basket mouths party but very truthful. ACN Govs Killing The Southwest With Reckless Debts”…Osun, N150b; Ogun, N100b; Ekiti, N30b; Lagos, $500 Million. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned on the dire consequences of the huge debts into which the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is plunging southwestern states under its control. It also implored the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other financial clearing houses to do all in their powers to check the “alarming” rate at which the states are obtaining loans. PDP’s National Vice Chairman (South West), Chief Segun Oni, who spoke on behalf of the party, warned that the ACN-controlled states would go bankrupt should they continue with the “regime of taking loans and bonds and giving promissory notes on multi billion naira contracts to execute questionable projects like building new government houses. “It is worrisome that less than two years after ACN took over Osun and Ekiti states, the two are now indebted to the tune of over N150bn, with Ogun State on the verge of taking N100bn bond,” Oni lamented in n a release signed by his media aide, Mr Lere Olayinka. “Osun State alone is owing over N120bn, Ekiti is owing over N30bn and is rumoured to be planning to take another N30bn, while Lagos State government was said to have, as at 3oth June 2012, accumulated an external debt profile of $517,677,672 (more than half a billion dollars), despite having a monthly revenue of about N23 billion. “We wish to alert all well-meaning Yoruba sons and daughters on the dangerous trend of obtaining frivolous loans by the ACN governors in the South West, and call on the CBN and other financial regulatory agencies to put a stop it. Continuing, Oni said, “As at today, Osun State has taken N60bn bond, N25bn loan from First Bank, N17.8bn from Infrastructure Bank (to construct Oshogbo-Kwara Boundary Road), N17.5bn road project (six inter-township roads) to RATCON on contractor financing and another N7.6bn Ilesha and Oshogbo township roads to RATCON on contractor financing. Contractor financing means you are borrowing from your contractor at a cost higher than even bank term loans. “In Oyo State, a 4km road project around Challenge area in Ibadan was awarded for N5.7bn to Hitech Construction Company, owned by ACN leader, Bola Tinubu, on contractor-financing basis while the same practice is going on in Ogun State. One begins to wonder where the states’ incomes (federal allocation and internally generated revenue) are spent on. “All these projects being financed by the contractors are bank-guaranteed by the ACN State governments with promissory notes with a tenor beyond their legal tenures, and the implication is that the states are owing. It beats one’s imagination that a government will embark on projects it has no capacity to fund.” Oni, therefore, called on “well-meaning Yoruba people to intervene in the affairs of the region by preventing these ACN governors from mortgaging the future of our children through frivolous loans, because most of the loans being obtained now cannot be paid back in the next 50 years.” NOW,MY FELLOW OMOLUABIS,WE MUST TALK AND ACT QUICKLY BEFORE DISASTER STRIKES...
