by God's grace, come 21st of November, I would be graduating alongside a thousand others.
I am however dissapointed or nevertheless, full of pity for a good friend of mine passing out with a 2.2 in mechanical engineering..
He is ashamed of himself and his failure to attain a better grade though he's versatile in his field of study and profficient in the use of engineering softwares to solve problems- a feat i envy him for.
Dear ever gallant nairalanders, how can i help my friend who is in a state of depression?..

Wow your friend needs to get up and forget what grade he came out of school with and make a good name for himself. I know of a guy that graduated with a 3rd class and on convocation day he backed cake cooked rice and was very happy I was shocked.

Well, I think he has a valid reason. Some people don't joke with scores. Some would definitely celebrate the 2-2 draw.

I made a 2.1 - Electrical Engineering, but I didn't go for my convocation
One of the reasons was that I felt that my classmates with 1st classes and higher 2.1 CGPA would be wondering why I should be excited.
Then, I said I didn't have a good dress, oh my same old phone, oh I hate crowds, the stress of travelling and squatting in the hostel etc

In retrospect, I was just foolish

It is not by grades but by Grace! Anyway, going for your convocation is not compulsory. So OP, maybe you should just let your friend be.

Psychologically speaking. It will b a lil difficult for your friend to make it in life especially in this part of the world. If he keep condemning him self. To me one is not a man yet if he can't stand by his flaws. Tell him to brighten up. He can ignore the convo. But he should never feel bad for his grade.


In my own family we are never encouraged to seek for employment. No matter the grade u came out with. My uncles that own their own companies would tell every youth in d family from day one in school to start thinking of what he will do after school and zero his or her mind on getting a job

Shyte. There are people who graduated with a FIRST CLASS and still did not go for convocation. Not everyone likes crowd, noise and celebration. Some people are just quiet and private-dem no send.

When i saw the whatsapp dp, i knew that was landlord and it confirmed it when you called him.
The truth is 2.2 is not bad, what is bad is not thinking big with the 2.2, he knows some people who grad with 2.2 and he can see what they have been doing now_i mean exploits! He has every reason to be at the convocation, infact tell him i wana see him on saturday on the convocation ground . Beyond the Grade, it calls for a grateful heart.

We sef wey get 2.1 dey para say we nor get firsty. I understand his pain though. To start strong and then come crashing down. Ouch!
