MikeCZAR:but don't you think what you ve just said is total BS? The Nigerian Army have rapid response units not one. They have held their own against the worst terror crisis that any country have ever seen and I am not talking about African countries alone. The Nigerian Army remains a strong force to reckon with in the international war against terror. The theatre of modern conflicts is fast shifting from the deserts, jungles and forest into cities and urban areas. The modern conflict map is changing and the rest of Africa will have to act like they know that cus we in Nigeria we know that. The battle for Aleppo 2012- still ongoing is one of the largest battle the modern world have seen and it was fought right inside the city of Aleppo. We saw the battle for Tripoli, we saw the battle for Bama we saw the battle for Kismayo And the Kurds just took over Sinjar, so it is very reasonable for Africans to criticize any Modern African Mil exercise that does not reflect this realities. |

overhypedsteve: Kismayo fell without any heavy fighting. The force taking Bama as seen in that Vice video was ill equipped. Mali, South Sudan, Somalia etc shows where African conflicts are fought. The Nigerian army lacks rapid response capability. |

Henry240: Is this your personal opinion in support of Augubugu or did you personally evaluate all the exercises that took place in the 3 weeks. Why is there no report by military analysts attending AMANI II that it was a futile exercise. Was the exercises about testing system requirements or was it about AU trying to establish a africa wide coherent military structures to rapidly respond to african problems. Can you please show me the C2 system Nigerian Army has integrated into its units. 5 Likes |

snydergp1st: I've provided the state-of-the-art C2 system the Nigerian Navy has integrated into it's various vessels and units. The Navy is part of the Nigerian military. What exercises were carried out through out the 3 weeks, why don't you begin by telling us. Like i said, the Nigerian military learnt absolutely nothing new from Amani Africa. All exercise scenarios and systems have been used or deployed in one form or the other by the military. Flintlock, Obangame, etc etc are amongst joint training exercises carried out yearly in partnership with other west-African Nations. If the exercise doesn't deal with contemporary African problems (Terrorism), then the exercise is in futility. Amani Africa is only good for the cameras and threads like this. 3 Likes |

MikeCZAR:unfortunately your response to my post strongly advocates for advanced urban warfare training for African forces. 1.Was there urban fighting between rebel forces and the AU backed forces at all in Somalia? 2. Would a force with poor experience in urban warfare perform well in such theatres as Koduga, Bama, Kidal, Kismayo, Gao, 3.was there instances of urban warfare in Mali?(the battle for Kidal? The fighting in Gao with heavy casualties Do they ring any bell at all or picking on Agaugust is now the new past time?) 4.are African forces seeking for training on urban warfare from foreign experts? So since we know all this why all the argument? Pics 1 Malian forces undergoing urban warfare training during the Malian war. Pics 2 stock of weapons seized from heavy fighting in Konduga. Pics 3 Heavy technical seized from the battle of Konduga.

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Patchesagain: 9:29pm On Nov 16, 2015 |
Henry240: That is not a proper data-link - can you share data and radar from multiple platforms (say, a ship, jet, plane helicopter and ground elements) view the data from multiple locations and share data between platforms and employ battle-feild managment technology remotely? Can one platform "hand-over" targetting data to anothe for example? 1 Like |

Henry240: So, you: 1. Say your men learnt nothing 2. Admit that you dont know what happened at the exercise How can you say your men learnt nothing if you dont know what happened at the exercise!?!?!? Seems to me that all you are trying to do is defend your boy augbugug. And yes, the 2 hour demonstration is good for cameras because... they specifically saved that part of the exercise FOR THE PRESS. Probably because IT WAS A FVCKING PRESS DEMONSTRATION. Get that into your head. Jesus, this guy speaks authoritativly about a 3 week 5000 man exercise and the only thing he knows about it is what he saw in a ~2 hour press demo that involved about ~400 men. 3 Likes |

stillchris: Oga, The truth is we did not learn anything from Amani Africa. The maneuvers and demonstrations seen are scenarios used in the 70s or the Nigerian civil war. I mean, how do you attack Gwoza or defend maiduguiri with Armoured vehicles sitting so close to each other. You don't even attack Sambisa that is riddled with bobby traps, IEDS and VBIEDs that way. The maneuvers used in Amani Africa are obsolete, archaic and have no place whatsoever in the modern battlefield. Name just one engagement that the Nigerian army has been involved in, in the last 25 years that have required us to use maneuvers like those we saw in Amani Africa, I dare you to name one? I'm not saying that Amani Africa should just be held in built up areas, I'm saying Amani Africa should be a representation of the scenarios modern African militaries ( Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda) have faced and continue to face in their various theaters of operations. Have you even taken the time to look at how the French fought in Mali ? It was street level, then operations were taken to the mountains. The scenarios presented in Amani Africa are all from the 70s. There is something very wrong with fighting like you are in the 70s in today's modern battle-space. If Nigerian forces used these tactics against Boko-Haram, they would be severely ra.ped every time. I don't see how the military can attack or defend Gwoza, Mubi, Potiskum, Gombe city, Madagali with tactics used in the 70s. The only area Amani Africa delivers is on cohesion. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Henry240: According to this guy modern armies don't ever: 1. Assault the enemy 2. Conduct combined arms operations 3. Engage in low intensity conventional warfare I can name plenty times that these operations have been done - the war in Somalia is a prime example. south Africa has plenty of urban warfare training facilities, if they were needed they would have been used The INABILITY of the Nigerian army to conduct such operations is not valid evidence that such operations are obsolete. 2 Likes |

Henry240: I always hear the Nigerian government giving props to US and western nations and not mentioning Russia when talking about those who stood by us. While the Russian trained commandos seem to perform better than the US trained ranger battalion. The Same thing happened during the civil war. We were abandoned by the west while the soviets backed us only for the war to end and we forgot about them. Now this. |
