Landlord is not the lazy type. Maybe something derailed his focus, I can't say. But he finished UDS with a first class (5.0 CGPA if I can recall clearly). So it is natural for him to feel bad.

@poster...you may share my story with your friend...I graduated with lower credit HND although from a prestigious institution in the Niger Delta although I still felt bad because I deserved better...I know what I'm capable of...fast forward...I got a job and started little just after NYSC...fast forward again...a couple of years later...I'm a Country Manager in a renowned Multinational Oil Services Company right now...what did I do differently after graduating with such result from such school...I never looked back...I never pitied my past or future...I hoped only in God as there was no connection in any sort for me...even if there was...I totally had faith in God!...my ambitions drove me forward...some challenges as usual...but I'm still grateful to God I graduated with such a grade and from such a school most of you would class as lower than the Almighty Universities...mind you I have also spent a lot of money doing professional courses in my chosen career path...This proved to very handy with my HND on my right hand, professional certificates on my left and experience on my head!. I have moved from being termed a FAILURE to having a Successful career. Currently I mentor my mates and junior engineers on my subject matter. You can be all you want to be...believe in yourself, develop yourself, seek experience, take chances and above all...BELIVE IN GOD!

UI and other schools uses the 7.0 scale
5.0 scale is the most common in 9ja
and few others used the 4.0 scales

by God's grace, come 21st of November, I would be graduating alongside a thousand others.
I am however dissapointed or nevertheless, full of pity for a good friend of mine passing out with a 2.2 in mechanical engineering..
He is ashamed of himself and his failure to attain a better grade though he's versatile in his field of study and profficient in the use of engineering softwares to solve problems- a feat i envy him for.

I finished with a 3rd class but I have employed 1st class degree holders in my business.

It's a choice to attend a graduation ceremony but that shouldn't determine the course of life thereafter.
