My brother Jarus , I'll strogly advise your friend sees a specialist urgently ! The normal thing in Nigeria is to blame a 'close family member or villager' for any problems we have. Isn't it funny this relation has control over jinns and your friend & the Imam have no answer but to point to the source of the jinn ? I have countless examples & I'm sure you have much more of people who fall sick suddenly or who come across some unexpected mishap, blame some old woman or witch in the village for their woes(its always in the village isn't it ?). . . But I really feel we (Nigerians) overestimate the impact of jinns, witches, demons in our lives and this is understandable due to the poor state of medical infrastructure and other concomitances of underdevelopment. I strongly suspect there’s a jinn behind IBB’s presidential ambitions . . . . . [/b] |

@Illusion2, Thanks. But I'm too sure this is a case of Jinn. Moreso, like you, the person in question initially doubted the existence of Jinn, and how a Jinn can influence human etc until he comes to this reality. Seeing that we speak from different realms, I'll not argue here other than what I have written from the beginning of this thread. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, not all cases of abnormality are Jinn, some are just pathological disorder, solvable by orthodox medicine. Mind you I'm not an illiterate, so I don't just take anything, especially as a philosophy student, but the case of Jinn, whether one believes it or see it as fairy tale, is reality. I have witnessed so many real life cases to still doubt it, not to mention the fact that Qur'an and hadith extensively discuss it, which as a Muslim I must never death. I swear by God almighty that created me that Jinn existence and their existence are reality. May God punish me if I lie about it. |

Re: Islam And Exorcism by Jarus(m): 8:52pm On Sep 01, 2010 |
I'm not an exorcist, neither am I a so strong ustaz, but I have read widely on this very subject and have spoken with Islamic scholars that specialize in it, as well as witness exorcism in real life. From symtoms to cure, I know practically everything but I can't do exorcism. @tunfeek, Jarusnairaland@yahoo.com |

Jarus: J,I'm not doubting the existence of jinns (or demons), as it is fundamental to my Christian faith - just as angels,Heaven,Hell etc are ! What Im saying is that people are quick to associate issues/problems with someone in the village or witch or jinn. I'd rather your friend seeks proper medical help before concluding a jinn is at work. . . my example above speaks for itself. |
Re: Islam And Exorcism by Jarus(m): 9:37am On Sep 02, 2010 |
illusion2:Yes, I agree people are too quick to conclude that somebody somewhere in their village is 'doing' them at the sightest misfortune. In fact, I speak strongly against this and I hate it with passion. In fact, most of the Jinn cases I have seen or read about or heard from trusted sources do not result from somebody sending them to people. Most result from lust or mischief of the Jinn(the famous oko oru phenomenon where a being sleeps with ladies in dreams are Jinn. I have seen a law grad of Ife afflicted by this until exorcised and the Jinn confessed he wanted to marry her) or hurting the Jinn(e.g innocently throwing away hot water) or contract with the Jinn(e.g ritualists) or backfiring(attempting to invoke Jinn at another person) or heresy(intruding their world by invoking their names for extra-ordinary powers) etc. Of course, I also fall sick like any human and I visit doctors, but I know symptoms of Jinn possession when I see one. It is different from abnormal physiological conditions. Well, I will not say the brother should not visit a doctor but I have seen cases of Jinn in which the afflicted person spent more than 10 years visiting doctors, in teaching hospitals, and returning to be told there was no problem with him, until exorcised. |
Re: Islam And Exorcism by AbuHanifa: 10:38am On Sep 02, 2010 |
Thank you Jarus, You have done a great job. May Allah reward you. It is always good for one to know the symptoms of jinn attack rather than jumping into conclusions. Islamically, there are many ways through which one can easily identify someone being possessed by Jinn. On many instances, the rightly-guided alfas consult neurological and psychiatry hospitals for diagnosis even some work hand and hand. I have witnessed an exorcism before and heard about many from authentic sources. It happened during the life of Prophet Muhammad(SAW) too. One day, the prophet sent Amr bn Yasir to the river. On getting there, Amr met one fat, black man with no hair, trying to prevent him from fetching the water. There ensued a fight! Amr threw him on the floor thrice and the man fled. The Prophet had been shown what happened and told the companions that were with him that your brother Amr met one Jinn at the river and Allah gave him the privilege to defeat the Jinn. On hearing this, Uthman bn Afan got up and ran towards the river. He met Amr on the road and told him what the prophet said. Amr said had I known it was a Jinn, I would have dealt with him more than that. We have the example of Abu Huraira, Umar bn Khattab encounter with River Nile etc. ISLAM is LIGHT, ISLAM is POWER. Ayyatul kursiyy, first 5 verses of suratul baqara, last three verses of baqara, Qur 2 vs 102, Suratul Jinn (Quran 72), Suratul Rahman (Chapter 55), Suratul Najm (Qur 53) etc These verses are very powerful. May Allah save us from all the calamities of this world peace be onto the world |

Good Job Jarus et'al I recall a terrifying story my neigbour told me about a friend of his, a businessman in Apapa, who at exactly noon was so pressed and needed to use the loo. He swerved across the road, parked his car and lucky him there was a public toilet close by. He rushed in to take a quick leak. The moment he slammed the door, landing on his cheeks was a thunderous slap that sent stars and twitty birds singing. So, surprised he kept looking around to see who gave him the slap and could not see anyone. There are mannerisms for your daily life and what you should say before carrying out some atcs. i.e you don't enter your house or someone's without saying Assalamu alikum etc. |

Possession by evil spirits (Jinns)or the devil (shaitan) and exorcism is a part of Islamic belief since its beginning According to Islamic scholars The Jinni enters the one seized by fits and caused him to speak incomprehensible words unkown to himself if the one seized by fits is struck a blow sufficient to kill a camel he does not feel it (Sheikh Al Islam Ibn Tamiyyah ,Majmoo Alfatawa). Islamic scholar caution against the overuse of exorcism citing that most cases are due to Psycholigical and physical causes mistaken for possession real cases of possession exist but rare and the faithful are warned to watch out for exorcists who encourage a diagnostic of possession too quickly are they merely be seeking profit Exorcism in the Koran and Sunnah: the following verse of the Koran compares the state of sinners on the day of Judgement to the state of those made insane by the devil " those who eat Riba(usury)will not stand (in the day of Resurrection )except like the standing of person beaten by shaitan (satan)leading him to insanity .(Albaqarah 2:275) Islamic scholars such AlQurtubi cite this verse as a proof against those who deny the possession by Jinns or ascribe it to natural causes as well as those who claim that devil (shaitan) does not enter human nor does he touched them there are also narrations that the Prophet (SAW) and his followers expelled evil beings from the bodies of believers using verses of the Koran ,Supplications to Allah and holy Zem Zem water this exemple is related by Ya 'la Ibn Murah For your protection my NL friends theses verses of the Koran can be recited on regular basis for your protection 1- Al Fatiha 2- Al ikhlass or At Tuhid 3-Alfalaq 4-An Nas 5-Ayat Alkursi Koran 2:225 |

Jarus, jazaka LLahu Khaira L Jaza. Brothers & sisters in Islam, do you know that Jinns ca even take the form/photo of an ordinary person, to use it for evil?. That is why it is not allowed for a Muslim to sleep naked. Also Jinns like to stay in dirty places, like where huge dirt are being kept, they walk at midnights, at the heat of the Sun. Do you know that there are Muslims among this set of creature, as there are non-Muslims among them. When we talk of Jinns, we need to speak much on it. We shall re-visit this issue very soon |

MashaAllah! I wonder where i've been all ds while. But, alhamdulillah. Reading this thread is a great blessing to me. My first experience was at an I.V.C a long time ago and I was quite young. We heard a woman screaming and ran towards the place when a woman shouted at us:'do you want the jinn leaving her to enter you?' and that was it until 2005 when I heard a lecture about it. It didnt sound so real, was like seeing a movie and this thread is a great reminder! But no one added that many of the jinns are set to cause chaos in homes, responsible for quarrels between spouses. May Allah help us 1 Like |

Islam is beautiful. Just that this issue of exorcism is peculiar to some muslims. I am kinda familiar a little. Lots of Jinns seem to be non believers. But Rawaniya ( i dont know equialent word for it in Yoruba) they have more muslims among them. Some pious Muslims use them as messanger similar to that of Prophet Sulaimon(AS). These beings live in among us but in different samawat (dimension of space and time). Very interesting. Just that some Muslims that are not familiar with this stuff tend to see the whole thing differently. They exist. |

I used to have major doubts about exorcisms when I first accepted Islam. Since then, I have had the privilege of being present at a number of exorcisms; initially as a sceptic... my background is science all the way. Later I had to admit that none of those cases could have been mental health problems. The non-jinn cases were rejected by the ulama that conducted the Ruqya after brief tests and their families were told that it was not jinn. It was those cases that were diagnosed as jinn that were most striking. One was a young girl who's mother was a 'prophetess' in a white garment church. When the daughter became adamant on remaining a muslim, the mother sent jinn to possess her by the jinn's own account. That girl could wrestle and overcome any six people at a time. It took that many to barely hold her down. The jinn left and repossessed her a number of times until she was later handed over to muslim family members, I don't know how it ended. Another young lady used a public toilet and came out something else. When the alim recited some verses, she calmed down and started speaking in an older woman's voice. She claimed that the girl hurt her baby while in the toilet. The alim interceded on behalf of the girl and told the jinn that it was a mistake since we could not see them and that she should not have been living in a human toilet anyway, so as not to face any more accidents. That jinn left, but she advised that the girl should wear a hijab properly as her lack of modest dressing helped the jinn to enter her. She also told the alim to tell the girl to stop listening to music. I attended some others along the line. The one that finally dispelled my scepticism totally was that of a married woman who actually GREW in size as the alim was reciting the Qur'an. This previously smallish sized, soft talking lady started pacing the room and threatening everyone present in a very loud, guttural, area-boy voice. And she was noticeably taller. I could not scientifically explain that in any way. She yelled and shouted. It was very intimidating, and had I been alone, would have definitely run away (shame); though she did not seem to be able to touch anyone physically. What also struck me in this case was that when the jinn started feeling defeated, the woman stood in front of the alim; who was sitting calmly reciting throughout (I still have a lot of respect for that man). She now shouted in her (his?) guttural voice; "YOU WEAK SONS OF ADAM. I COULD KILL YOU LIKE CHICKEN IF NOT FOR THE QUR'AN THAT YOU HAVE". Then the jinn left. Needless to say, since that day, any dark place I feel apprehensive or whatever, I recite the Qur'an. Sorry, I did ramble on a bit. |
