Both Ilaje and Itsekiri are actually:
Oma Ilaje Dede
Oma Iwerre Dede

It is the contraction of the 'A' ending the Oma, and the 'I' beginning the Iwerre that causes a vowel to be omitted and everything pronounced as "Omiwerre Dede" , when the phrase is being pronounced fastly in speech.
Standard Yoruba on the other hand say 'Omo Yoruba gbogbo" , not Fefe ... grin However, the use of the word "Dede" to mean 'All' or 'Entire' is not restricted to just Ilaje and Itsekiri. It is a feature of south-Eastern yoruba dialects such as Owo, Ilaje, Ikale, Ondo, Siluko/Usen and Okada.

Spot on.
I think the Ilajes are the closest Yoruba group to the Itsekiris.

We the Ijebus say dede too.

I like your clarifications. Let me add, on the use of the word "dede" , Ijebus also use the word "Dede" my mother's Ijebu dialect will say "dede wen" but my father's Ibadan dialect will say "gbogbo yin" meaning "all of you".

Yes, and Including Ijebus of course.
The Ijebus actually are culturally and linguistically closer to the people of Ondo state, that to the Egbas with which they are lumped together with in Ogun State.

Goodboiyy, I always love your threads because you advocate for unity in spite of the massive tribalism on nairaland. I just hope some bigots won't come and derail this thread. As for Lalasticlala, better do what is needed.

To add to this thread:
Differences

Itsekiris have a wider range of words borrowed from alot of languages unlike Ilaje whose words are still mainly Yoruba.
Itsekiris practise the Edo system of monarchy but Ilajes follow suit with their Yoruba brothers.
Itsekiris have a different cuisine which are more like Urhobo and Ijaw cuisines. Itsekiris eat Starch and Owho soup which is similar to the Urhobos. Ilajes, on the other hand, draw their cuisine from Yoruba with some Ijaw influence in adjoining areas.
Itsekiris dress differently from Ilajes. Itsekiri dressing is similar to that of Urhobo people while Ilajes mostly dress as Yorubas do.

I can help you do some additions:
Oma ilaje Omuro mo gha rin oh....ilepete re se Ile ba mi

Monarchy: ilajes practice the edo(benin) system of monarchy:
Olu - the royal throne
Oliha/Asogbon - the chief priest
Yasere - the king spokesperson...and so on

CUISINE: The ilajes stand out from the yorubas in terms of cuisine. Our major food is pupuru(more like fufu but u pound it) with orugbo(black soup). We also have what we call ogolale- a special delicacy made from unripe plantain and yam in the form of porridge.
I'll add some other details later

The only Itshekiri woman I met was during my
NYSC days. I think her name was Mercy.
Beautiful, well groom and classy, yet social.
There is no way she would have entered
my Volkswagen car then. I just crushed on her
for the full service year.
I hope to do write about her someday.
Maybe give her an equally endowed husband
but get them to be childless in all of their
married life, devoting themselves to very
noble services of religion and charity.
I hope to do it with grace and finesse
that befit my memory of her.

Was thinking of Some connection b/w Ilaje and Itsekiri this morning , Although I see so many Similarities but I still see some Differences between them.

Itsekiri
Itsekiri are people of The Niger Delta , They speak a language very similar to Ilaje and Yoruba , Making them one of the key branch of the Yoruboid language. The Itsekiri presently number just over a million people and live mainly in the Warri South , Warri North and Warri South West local government districts of Delta State on the Atlantic Coast of Nigeria . Significant communities of Itsekiris can be found in parts of Edo and Ondo states.

Ilaje

The Ilajes are a distinguished, distinct linguistic group of Yoruba peoples made up of four geo-political entities namely Ugbo, Mahin, Etikan and Aheri.

below are some Similarities and Differences b/w Ilaje And Itsekiri

Similarities

1. Language : The Ilaje Unlike other Yoruba Ethnic group speak almost the same language with Itsekiri, If an Itsekiri man speaks someone from Ogun or Lagos won't understand but An Ilaje man Will Understand Fully.. Let's take this As an example.. An Itsekiri man will say Omi Iwerre Dede' o why An Ilaje man will Say Oma Ilaje Dede' Lookin at both sentence you can See The Great Similarities b/w them but The Yoruba will say Omo Yoruba Fefe

2 Occupation : The major Occupation of The Ilaje/Itsekiri people re mostly fishing , but due to heavy oil exploitation in there land They no longer Make use of there water Bodies (All Thanks To The Nigeria Government)

3. Wealth : The Ilaje and Itsekiri people are very rich because of the oil being found in There land.. itsekiri account for about 70% of oil Production in Delta State why Ilaje Account for about 96% of Oil production in On do

3. Accommodating : The Ilaje and Itsekiri people are very very accommodating. I remember my mom always telling me How Accommodating they her..

4. Intelligent : Most of the Big names and Professor in Ondo state are mostly From Ilaje Extraction. Similarly the Itsekiri's re well educated and Also Brilliant.

Differences

1. Culture : The Itsekiri culture is totally diff from The Ilaje Ethnic group, Although Some itsekiri communities share alot of Things with them but Majority of Itsekiri's culture are mostly Edo.. Be it Food, marriage, burial e.tc

2. Itsekiri's are more connected to Urhobo, so they act like The Urhobo People

3. The Itsekiri Think Differently from Ilaje ..

written by Ayo Goodboiyy that loyal Urhobo boiyy

Nice one @OP f recognising the ilaje nation
In terms of relationship ilajes and itsekiris marry themselves a lot. And our offsprings are dope. A notable mention is oritsefemi(itsekiri/ilaje). I even heard that Ayiri's mum is ilaje

Wow!

So you are actually Urhobo?

Why have you been claiming Itsekiri all the while?

The only similarity Itsekiris and Urhobos have is the top and wrapper style of dressing.
Even then, Itsekiris still revert to Agbada and Aso Oke at special occasions.

Itsekiri is more Yoruba than Edo/Urhobo.

I dont know why NLanders like claiming tribes other than theirs.

Yes very close, so also eastern Yoruba dialects of Owo, Ondo, Ikale, etc, even the most ancient Yoruba dialects of Ekiti, Ijesa, Ife, Igbomina and Ijebu. ''gbogbo" is recent just as most words in the central Yoruba; Ekiti & Ijesa would say "kete"; ini, eji, eta, Erin, etc just as Itsekiri & Igala as in, one, two, three, four.

Even most of dialect phrases and statements in Itsekiri are same with most of Southeaster Yoruba dialect right from Ijebu in Ogun to Owo/Akoko in Ondo, the only difference is intonation.

Itsekiris and ilajes are directly resident in the niger delta. We see nothing but vast oceans around us. There is no ilaje town that is on land except igbokoda. So the ilajes are more on water than us, itsekiris.
