defemidefemi: Yes & No.. The Itsekiri language is Yoruboid y that of Ijaw is Ijoid.. Itsekiri share similar tins in common with The Ijo's in Delta state, But not with Ijo's in Rivers.. even Tonyebarcanista don't know any Itsekiri culture but he his Ijaw.. but the ijaws from Delta understand itsekiri and they are somehow connected but not as that of Urhobo/Itsekiri.. For example some Ijaw communities worship same gods the itsekiri worship.. 2 Likes 1 Share |

@ Op, you haven't found the word that's just for these two alone. You can't stay for 2 minutes in Ijebu area without hearing 'dede'. Ijebu say, Omo ijebu dede. Egba too use dede. You would find dede in every Yoruba dialect. 2 Likes |

sanmibukunmi: Spot on. Same as Ijebus. Infact, Ijebus dont use "gbogbo" but "dede". I also understand Ijebus and Ijeshas have huge similarities despite the wide geographical gap. Wish to see a thread like this on that too. 1 Like |

wytecat:That's not totally true. Even in Ondo/Ekiti States, not everyone uses "dede". Some use "gede", while some others especially Ekitis use "kete". Ijebu and Ilaje are related, even though Ijebus are not classified among the Southwestern Yoruba dialects. Some Egba names do sound Ilaje to me e.g.: Afuwape. 1 Like 1 Share |
