South-West States, Clubs To Battle In Ibadan Judo Tourney

As part of efforts to prepare judokas in Southwestern Nigeria for better performance at the National Sports Festival and other national championships, the zonal representative on the board Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), Dr Musa Oshodi, in collaboration with National Sports Commission (NSC) South-West Zone 1 have finalised plans to stage a tourney in Ibadan. The two-day tournament, according to Oshodi, who is also the head of technical committee of NJF, will hold between November 24th and 26th at the indoor sports hall of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.

Oshodi urged the judokas to put in their best, in order to brighten the opportunity for for international engagements, in the nearest future. He added that athletes will be exposed to such competitive bouts to be fit at all times.

“The problem facing many other sports, apart from football, is the dearth of competition and, we, in the Southwest cannot fold our arms and watch our judokas lose form,” Oshodi said.

Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Ogun and Ekiti are some of the state which will be in Ibadan next Tuesday with their contingents, while judo clubs of the Nigerian Police Force, National Security and Civil Defense Corps, The University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile–Ife, will also be part of the tourney.

I said it's better not to trust anyone with money on NL. Remember how we discussed sending money to Nigeria to develop our land? With the ongoing lunacy on NL, it's best to stay away from such. It's better to keep our discussion online until we can ensure that all of us are reputable/trustable.

Honestly, I'd like us to discuss these stuff offline.......

Create another blog forum etc. Unfortunately, many are still unaware. NL is the best best place to reach out to other Yorubas.

The Ansar-Ud-deen you're talking about is the one opposite randle hospital bah? White/White. grin I played football there as well

Then Saint joseph secondary school at Owodele. Its not far from luth,Idi-araba

I played inside Luth itself with medical students, then opposite it is vegetable garden.I don dey near Mushin be that oo grin grin

I played at one school in Bank-Olemoh as well.I can't remember the name now but the school is not far from National stadium

Dapo was the father of neighbourhood soccer in Surulere and when the toss come up the winning captian always snatch him up before anyone else. He went somewhere in East Europe. His parents lived off Adeniran Ogunsaya. When i started playing snooker I hung my soccer shoes up. I played two field games with very closely resemembled play structure. Often times i left one to the other. ...and i didnt find personal reward in it so i went where the money and hussle was.

The farthest i played was Lawanson, I didnt venture into Idi Araba.

Akata means "blacks outside of Africa".

Are you half-Yoruba? I am happy that you're interest in Yorubaland, but I'd like to know where that interest originated.

Akata literally is not suppose to be an offensive word. The victims are the ones who gave it a negative meaning through their reactions. At the end of the day, it all boils down to ignorance. The people who used the word against them probably thought it means cat that left home and the other bullch!t and they too accepted it

In fact, part of Sango's oriki is Akata

Sango Olukoso Akata yeri yeri Arabambi Oko Oya

Hmmmm...but why the panther reference?....plenty blacks outside Africa aren't necessarily dark undecided.Besides isn't akata used in a derogatory way? I am full trini no mind two of my grandparents are from St.Vincent lol cheesy. I am interested in Naija to see what becomes of her seeing as she is the largest black nation...I know quite a few folks are hopeless about her...but you never know what she may make of herself.Regarding Yoruba...exposure is through knowing a few isese folks here.I just have general interest in African cultures...Yoruba own is just more accessible here in Trinidad.

If akata indeed means panther, why did we start using it for black americans?
