lalasticlalaThe guy sent me his message to share. Read below… My name is Akinmuda Oluwafemi, presently a 500level medical student of the college of Medicine, university of lagos. October 19 2007, at the age of 15, I alongside Mercy Richards, Yetunde Brown and Henry Akahara represented Nigeria at the House of Commons, London to participate in the world slavery youth debate. We returned back to Nigeria with Gold medals. An Evidence of good performance and representation of the federal republic of Nigeria. Only Henry Akahara was granted scholarship by the lagos state government under the administration of Governor Raji fashola to study in the UK… he claimed to have been the only one that went for the debate and won the medal and the lagos state government without making further investigations granted him. I remember, the director of the British council called a meeting with we all and our parents to be quiet that in due time we would be called. Till now, nothing. I’m just reminiscing, next year I would be a doctor, do I want to serve this country?Does this country have anything to offer? Even when you go the extra mile to represent and honour this country at different levels and you still are not appreciated, I ask myself is it worth it being a Nigerian? On second thoughts however, is it just the PDP government that was so selfish and corrupt and won’t recognise an award for excellence from the highest level “The Queen of England Herself” courtesy LORD John Prescott? Is it worth is being a Nigerian Google “kemishia Kelly” she was a participant, ever since recognised by Jamaica as a participant. Even wikipedia recognises her. All other people that participated in the debate today are recognised for their excellence and hold strong posts in their various countries. And here I am, just reminiscing. I just want all Nigerians to read this, and think of it over and over…. So in all I just want this to go public, and let all Nigerians feel my pain, and lookout for this APC administration. Would they prove me wrong about my feeling as a Nigerian? Do they appreciate excellence?? Time would tell… Source: http://examhall.net/home/the-queen-of-england-recognised-my-performance-but-nigeria-did-not-young-nigerian-laments/ |

queenstl:Bro under which party's administration were the GoldenEaglets that won the World Cup given 20k? Now stop the blame game and listen. I think you should be grateful to the country for giving you the opportunity to serve, and do not think you're the only good head there. At least your experience has been enhanced and your profile boosted with that single representation...Just like most of the Eaglets who'd get signed by interested international clubs, just because they were offered the rare opportunity to feature in the U17 world cup and got noticed,so also you should move on and build from where you stopped. Lucks. * Lalasticlala, shouldn't we at least recognise this young talent here on Nairaland? 8 Likes 1 Share |

Nice write up but wrong heading. Your grievance should have been directed to your colleague who claimed the whole victory solely. Also claiming you represented Nigeria @ a competition that never involved any ministry or agency is laughable. You guys actually went there to represent yourselves. If you insist that you were there for Nigeria then kindly tell us when the selection process took place. And now trying to bring in political angle into play simply shows that you are in for self gratification. Smh. |

Exmay: Very shallow way of thinking. When someone goes to a university abroad and gets a first class, which headline do you see; "Nigerian bags first class in XYZ university" despite the fact that when he or she was hustling to get the admission nobody knew or cared and definitely no government or agency was involved. What about those that traffic drugs and get caught. Which headlines do you see: " 2 Nigerians caught with drugs and sentenced to death". When they were trafficking the drugs were they representing any government or agency; so why was their crime attributed to Nigeria. It is simply myopic to say that until you are only representing a government or agency, you cant be said to be representing Nigeria. They were the only Nigerian participants at the global debate and their success or failure would have been attributed to the country as a whole. If his story is true, the question to ask is; why did the British director ask the other participants to be quiet about their legitimate claim to having represented Nigeria at the debate? Why did the Director by implication condone the lie told by Henry Akahara? How come or how possible is it that the Lagos state government granted someone scholarship to study abroad without thoroughly investigating his claims? Does that mean I can also walk into the govt house tomorrow and claim that I won a prize in rope skipping in Vietnam and be given a scholarship? There is definitely more to this story.... 4 Likes 1 Share |

adeaks: Leave am, dem suppose wear green white green, then come draw flag for their cheek before e believe say na nigeria dem go rep. The claim is very very legitimate, but i blame the british council director the most because he wud have been invited to the government house and he wud have just been quiet like mumu instead of fighting for akinmunda and d others... |
