Centrifude: I was saying to the South-Africans a few weeks ago, the Turks are no pushovers. They are one of the stronger members of NATO. I knew they were going to shoot down a Russian Jet. It was only a matter of time. What this simply means is, Russia is going to deploy additional SU-30SMs in Syria. Let see how they(Russians) respond, maybe few cruise missile strikes from the Caspian. |

bidexiii: Such actions reaffirm that fact that Russia is seriously itching for a Fight *well so is Nato* but it seems like Russia has decided to take the Fight to Nato. The one thing I know is that any fight between East and West will always end in a StaleMate. I just hope and pray that Africa doesn't end up being home to their Proxy wars again. |

Henry240: Yes Turkey has guts but what will happen when Russia decides to retaliate? I was watching RT and I'm starting to doubt that Russia will do much, they seem to be playing the victim. |

Centrifude: If Russia retaliates, Turkey would invoke Article 5 of NATO pact. An attack on one is an attack on all. I mean, Russia won't go to war with NATO over Syria, it just won't happen. Getting there pilot is there uttermost priority. |

Centrifude: nothing will happen because an attack on turkey would lead a war with nato. the smartest thing to do would be to spinsor insurrections as turkey is a deeply divided country. let's wait and see what russia's reactions will be |

Something doesn't smell right here. The Turks claim to have warned the Fencer 10 times over 5 minutes. Well, take a look at this radar track released by Turkey: the airspace supposedly violated is only 1.5NM long, meaning the Fencer would traverse it in 18 seconds. So much for the warning then.

bidexiii: Before going into a meeting with the Jordanian king, Putin said: -“The loss today is a stab in the back, carried out by the accomplices of terrorists. I can’t describe it in any other way.” -“Our aircraft was downed over the territory of Syria, using air-to-air missile from a Turkish F-16. It fell on the Syrian territory 4km from Turkey.” -“Neither our pilots nor our jet threatened the territory of Turkey.” -“Today’s tragic event will have significant consequences, including for Russia-Turkish relations ... Instead of immediately getting in contact with us, as far as we know, the Turkish side immediately turned to their partners from Nato to discuss this incident, as if we shot down their plane and not they ours.” -“Do they want to make Nato serve ISIS? ... We hope that the international community will find the strength to come together and fight against the common evil.” 4 Likes |

giles14: From the radar track released by the Turkish military, it's quite clear that 2 planes violated Turkish airspace. What's nonsensical however, is the claim they issued warnings 10 times over 5 minutes. Even at a slow ground speed of 300 knots, those Fencers each spent not more than 20 seconds in Turkish airspace. |

frumentius: We all know......... it's an open secret, Turkey, Saudi-Arabia and Qatar have been supporting IS terrorists in Syria and Iraq. No Turkish jet would ever fly over syria, Turkmen rebels in Syria should better starting saying there last prayers. Russia woul retaliate. - The SU-24 presented no threat to Turkey - The SU-24 spent less than 18 seconds in Turkey - The SU-24 was targeting ISIL terrorists |

Guys Just FYI Article 5 only applies when you (ie: NATO member invoking the article) are attacked FIRST http://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/topics_110496.htm? Clearly this does not apply here. There are bigger things at play. Turks are playing the "turkmin card" Claims that Turkish military forces on Aug. 10 entered the planned zone in Syria via the Öncüpınar/Bab al-Salameh border crossing along with the Sultan Murat Brigade, which is composed of Turkmens, presents a worrying picture, especially when taken in conjunction with pro-government media headlines that cheerfully proclaimed Aleppo as the 82nd province of Turkey. The Turkmen card, which Turkey saves for rainy days as a foreign policy option, is on the table once again – something that is not surprising when nationalist sentiments are also on the rise. The perils of this political gamble loom large: Any attack against our Turkmen brothers in the safe zone could easily spark a military clash and drag Turkey into war.

jln115: "World war 3 over Syria?"........ Nobody would start WW3 over Syria, besides Europe support Russia in it's fight against ISIS terrorists in Syria, European parliaments would be reluctant to approve a military engagement against Russia. Germany and France simply would not engage Russia over Syria or Turkey or the Islamist Edrogan. It won't happen. |

Henry240: It goes without saying that Russia and Putin will retaliate. The great unknown is the nature of such. Amongst the tools available to the Kremlin: 1) The PKK might suddenly start fielding more potent weaponry; 2) Turkish options to strike at their enemies in Syria might completely vanish; 3) The pipelines supplying 60% of Turkey's gas might just develop problems needing shutdown; ditto the 35% of oil sourced from Russia; 4) Turkey needs tourists to finance its current account deficit; I don't see the 1,7 million Russians who visited last year, showing up again anytime soon. What we can say with certainty though, is that those Turkmen rebels are about to experience a world of hurt. |
