Excellent question

Simple answer - Because Yoruba chieftains can't put the Yoruba interests above their selfish interests.

Merging of states would solve this issue of bloated civil services.
Why can't Ogun merge Lagos, Oyo with Osun, and Ondo with Ekiti?

Have three big states with more autonomous LGs for outreach to citizens?

Like you, I believe this is the way to go.
But wait a minute...I think we may have to leave Lagos out of the equation to begin with. The combo of Lagos-based politicians who fear being subsumed and E-siders that only pay lip service to regionalism, are likely to rail against any attempt to merge with Ogun state.

(b) a Referendum is conducted in each of the States proposing to merge with 75% of the eligible voters in each of those States approving the merger;

Nah, we need to demonstrate the benefits of a merger with our interior states first - lest we end up with some semblance of the much derided sene-gambia union.

Interesting, I would have thought that it would be easier to merge Lagos with Ogun since both states have the indigenous same groups - Awori, Egba, & Ijebu.

But I can see your angle.

Ogun state gets new radio station

A non serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Gbenga Obadara, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District under the platform of SDP during the 7th legislature has opened a new private radio station in the state.

All is now set for the on air commencement of the private radio station located within the heart of Abeokuta.
The newly completed radio station has been undergoing test transmission since 20 November.

The new station named ‘Sweet FM’, will be transmitting on the frequency of 107.1FM band.

The station is situated within the popular Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Findings revealed that the station, which is the second private radio station in the state, will fully come on air by 1 December, 2015.
Investigation revealed that a lot of programmes being aired on an existing radio station in the town have now been taken to the new radio station
.

A member of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) in the state, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the new radio station arrived at a very good time when they were having some crisis with the management of the existing radio station.

There has been crisis between the management of the Radio Nigeria, Abeokuta (Paramount FM) and FIBAN in the state and the station is like home station for most of the presenters in the state.

The presenters stopped airing their programmes on the station in the last one month before the station itself went off air since about two weeks ago due to a faulty transmitter.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that the Odeda-born former federal lawmaker commenced work on the radio station as requested by the FIBAN members due to his close and cordial relationship with the association.

With the birth of the new radio station in few days to come, Ogun State is now having four radio stations. One is owned by the Federal Government, Paramount 94.5 FM; the second one is the state owned, OGBC 2 90.5FM and the third one, Rockcity 101.9FM owned by a veteran journalist and a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state under Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Mr Niran Malaolu.
The newest in town now is Sweet 107.1FM which will commence full transmission on Tuesday, 1 December, 2015.

9ja crip,
Congratulations to the new Ooni and all the High Priests of Ife.

Congratulations to you as well being a member of the Priest family.

I congratulate Yorubaland and Omoluabi everywhere.

Thanks also for bringing those pictures, very nice and worthy. I particularly liked the one you took with his gaze fixed directly in the lens, I wish there was more lighting....that's a classic cover shot!

When the coronation is all done I would like you to create an album thread for Ooni Ogunwusi in Culture section. Give it any title that suits you. Let's extoll Ile Ife.

Please shed light on the following for me.

1. There's a shrine in Isale Eko called Idita. Some call it Idito. This shrine is believed to have been transplanted by Olofin. Before coronation an Oba must visit and perform some rituals here, facilitated by Araba. Egungun, Agemo all stop here and give homage. In the Tapa cult there is an Igunnu called Salumangi (Salumogi)...the very short Igunnu...when Igunnu cult comes out, Salumogi steps forward and pays homage at Idita. When Oro comes out they also visit the shrine. The most dramatic is the appearance of Adimu at Idita. Adimu's presence here is more than paying homage...the whole purpose of him coming out is to visit Idita...nothing more, and he spends upward of 30minutes inside.

Of all these, only three have access to the interior - Oba, led by Araba; Adimu and Oro.

There seem to be a parallel of these acts and figures in Ife.

What is the link?

2. What is the significance of the trident in the white staff held by Ooni?

Egbon mi, let me begin with question 2. I really haven't paid much attention to the trident, neither do I think it is special considering the fact that I've seen it mostly with Ogboni chiefs. I should add that the Ooni holds the role of the Ogboni Patrone for life upon ascending yhe throne - maybe the trident is an Ogboni aborigene thing.

It is interesting to learn details of culture in Lagos traditional circle. To be honest, I read the post more than 3 times to see if I could figure anything out but my first point of problem I'm yet to get details on what 'Idita' means and its etymology, I always forget to ask this but I will keep it in mind - but I know for sure idita is a label to group the different lines in a single family. Rather than use 'awon or awon ara Iranje' 'awon Idita' is used. The info I got from one of my late uncles was that Idita gas 3 lines - Ilesun, Ilale and Ilia. Hence, Idi meta (three lines) but the present Obalepon told me the info was wrong about 2 months back and I'm yet to get him to give me which is right.

In your post it appears Idita is a shrine of some sort?

Also other problems include the fact that you mentioned egungun visiting Idita; originally egungun was never an Ife thing so houses such as that of Obatala have nothing to do with it.

Is the Idita in Lagos an Obatala shrine/temple? If yes, I would like to know what similarities it has with in operations in dealing with the king as its counterpart in Ife. And if not, I would like to learn how they came up with that name and why the name?

I was going to start up a thread as you said but I thought it would be reasonable to dump the photos here instead since this is a Yoruba thread which allows for somehing of that nature to be shared but I will begin to collate more photos of the process of the coronation to start up a thread.

Egbon, it would really be nice if you shared as much indepth details as possible on Lagos - especially her culture history.

On the side, Ogboni is quite strong within the royal circle of Lagos, I wonder why.

Sir, I think the previous regional system was arranged along the lines of hold Yoruba kingdoms and provinces - I may be wrong but most of these provinces wanted to be out of being classed with some other provinces or kingdoms.

Right now, I think regional system will be structured along modern states lines rather than subject Ife to Ibadan, Ijesa to Oyo, Ondo to Ekiti etc.

Just my thought.

.

Using division from the past [that wasn't even in existence till post Oyo] as a determinant for the feasibility of the implementation of a system that achieved much more than what we currently operate has or ever will is not good enough Egbon.

At least regional system worked for the short period it existed unlike our present system that has lasted longer but keeps making the future appear bleaker by the year.

Wouldn't it be right to try a something that once worked than cower under the fear of Yoruba division that didn't hinder it in its first attempt?

Just my thoughts egbon Katz.
