This made me remembered the day I entered Akure without having no where to stay or sleep!!! I stood at Nepa Roundabout Arakale road out of choice looking left and right having no where to go. Called a few people I knew, but was let down. My airtime later finished, I had to borrow 50 naira from Mtn to call my mum who later linked me with one of her relatives I never knew or heard of. Left around 10:30pm that night after the hookup. Anytime I pass through that same spot, I always felt like crying. Anyway I thank God!!! We all have a story to tell.

After i got back from class the Thursday afternoon I met Andy, Rita was home reading, I greeted her but there was no response. I called out her name and greeted for the second time and she finally replied with
"fine.. Welcome" which was not audible enough but I guessed those were her words because I read her lips. The rest of the day was painfully slow and i wished the next day would come sooner so I could go for lectures.
When it was almost eight in the evening, I could not bear the silence any longer, told Rita I was going into the school campus to read in one of the lecture halls, she nodded and then I took my books and left.
Back at the lecture Hall, I was finding it difficult to comprehend anything I read, the next course was the worse, even my most favourite course was so boring to me and then I gave up on reading and slept all through the night.
As early as five in the morning, I was out of campus, headed straight to Rita's apartment, opened the door from the outside, found her sleeping when I was inside,cleaned up, got dressed and took my writing materials and left the house by 7am even though the first lecture for that day was scheduled for 11am.
I met Andy after classes, he reminded me about his birthday party which was the next day, I noted and left.
Not long after I met Andy, my mother called to know how I was faring. I wanted to say a lot, tell her I was dying inside, that I was in pains, I was depressed but I thought it wouldn't make any difference So i told her I was having accommodation issues, I couldn't hide it any longer. I narrated the whole Rita accommodation brouhaha to her of which we finally concluded she was going to talk to Rita on the phone as soon as I got home.
I was finally home, tired and Worried. Rita was out, the pots in the kitchen were empty and i was very hungry. I opted for cornflakes only to realise that all her provisions were missing and the only thing I saw was my custard which I bought for that semester.
I sigh deeply, stood on the spot for a long time before deciding on having custard and then I slept.
I woke up in the middle of the night, Rita was not back still. I woke up again by 3am still no sign of her. I had made sure I removed my keys from the keyhole so she could open the door from outside instead of waking me up. When I was finally awake by 6am, I became worried, called her mobile line severally but there was no response.
Andy's birthday started at exactly 12pm like he said it would. Guests kept coming till past 2pm, the whole place was filled up with our course mates, friend's of his, and some of his relatives.
There was plenty of food, alcoholic and none alcoholic drinks, there was indeed merriment in the air and soon enough I forgot about all my problems.
The party ended by 6 pm and i left for Rita's place only for me to meet a big package awaiting me. As soon as I got to the entrance of the building of Rita's apartment , I saw a luggage at the security post In my subconscious mind, walked past only for me to turn back after I had taken few steps because the luggage look like it was mine. I got back to the security post to confirm it was mine, I was baffled when I realised the bitter truth. The security man was trying to tell me some things but I was too shocked to listen, I rushed upstairs, knocked on Rita's door, there was no response so I decided to use my keys, only for me to find out that the lock had been changed. I was transfixed, staring at the door, I felt light weighted and for a moment thought I was going to faint...

I can't say everything that happened word for word.. In school the same day Andy had complained about trying to reach me on my line.. I got a small Nokia touch light phone from a course mate. If I needed to include that, then I needed to include the character, the good samaritan. So you see, I only mention those who really had a great impact in my life. I hope you understand.

In five minutes, I was able to assess Tracy and her friend entirely. Tracy was such a beautiful girl, dark skinned, with dimples on the cheek bones. While she was seated I could tell she was tall, by the length of her arm and legs...
She had these white eyes, white teeth, and her hair... Oh she was wearing a hair net but I guessed it looked good too. Her dress, oh my God! Was so beautiful. I can't remember the colour though but I will never forget the fact that it was really beautiful.
Then her friend, she was another beauty to behold, dark skinned with a pointed nose and a smiling face. Her pair of sandals were to die for. Everything about these girls was screaming beauty and grace.
"POVERTY IS A BASTARD" I almost cried out and then I remembered Andy had asked me to come spend the weekend with him which I politely turned down.. 'lemme use this as an opportunity' I thought aloud.
I told the girls I was leaving and was about to dial Andy's number when I remembered that we never exchanged mobile phone numbers to start with.
"I AM FINISHED I SCREAMED INSIDE OF ME"
and then I felt hope, pride, strength and blood draining out of me. My head was hanging loose facing downwards, though felt very heavy.. I could tell that my eyes were blazing red and watery, my feet heavy and my whole body felt like it belonged to someone else......

Twenty minutes later we were in an eatery not too far from the campus. Yes, he had offered to buy me lunch and i had no other option but to accept it. I ordered for two wraps of eba and okra soup with four assorted meat. I could feel his gaze on me as I made the order but I simply did not care because I was more concerned with what I was going to eat that would still make me heavy to the next day.
Finally he asked why I had ordered for eba instead of rice like he did and I told him I had rice as breakfast and wanted something different (another lie)
When we were done eating, he offered to help me carry my big handbag as we walked and asked why It was so heavy.. I simply told him I had lots of shoes in it that are for sale when he asked to see them I told him that would be later because we were walking on the road..
'tomorrow is Saturday, would you like to come spend the weekend at my place cos most of the times I'm bored since I live alone' he said.
And i thought aloud,
'if this guy thinks I'm cheap because he bought me lunch then his mind must be really playing tricks on him'
I politely turned him down with excuses ranging from fellowship, rehearsals, group study etc.. and he believed or so i thought.
I could still recall I had just N150 left with me and I needed to get to the hostel with N100 as shuttle fare, which means I would have N50 left with me and I felt like crying but the food I had consumed wouldn't let me, I was so full my emotions were altered.
