I've been there. God is the ultimate entreprenuer, seek his guidance.

Yes I have skill, lots of... I used to write projects for people, its quite seasonal and they wouldn't pay up. I did tutorials with students who still dodged payments. I did driving for a school, madam would hardly pay. I've learnt barbing, importation too, I've been loyal to people, did menial jobs and I was used just anyhow, so much that I almost lost my conscience.
It is a tough world, and its all crashing on me.

nice write up mate. And I am in love with your quote below.

However, let the truth be told most managers/bosses in most organisations don't like people with your view .... my view. I have gotten into trouble many times because I refused to play by their rules.

People with this mentality can only function as entreprenuers or as change makers in established organisations.

Furthermore, I like the joke about maths lecturer. I have always loved mathematics and I did well at it; however, I must give credit to my SS2 & SS3 maths teacher. He instilled in me the confidence that I have in the subject. What am I driving at in this? School is good, however a lot needs to be done by teachers & lecturers to make their students grow with imagination.

Education without imagination produces certificate bearing individuals.

Education with imagination produces Champions.
You are blessed for this post. You said it all!

toughen up!

Do you have specific skills or are you a jack of all trades?

Entreprenuers learn many skills but specialize in one or a few.

entreprenuers fight as well. we fight for the right reasons.
Re: Education Beyond Certificate by tete7000(m): 10:01am On Nov 27, 2015
Education is beyond certificate, yes but certificate or at least a form of formal school is essential to proper education. When I hear people argued that some successful people dropped out and thus use that as a premise to argue for non-formal education I always laugh. Are these people in the class of an agbero that dropped out because they can't cope with going to school? Definitely No! People like Bill Gate have been educated to a level where they already identify their passion and thus can't continue in classroom because they need more time than sitting in classroom can afford them. Their education up to the point they left school was needed for them to become the success they become. They wouldn't have done or achieve anything if they are in the class of our agbero. Their knowledge of mathematics, physics and some other subjects they have had was necessary in their career pursuit.

"EQUIP" your certificate with skill.

Directionless Article.
Very much articulated write up. You are the one who doesn't know what the writer is talking about.
Number one problem with many educated Nigerians is that he/ she is not really educationally minded.

I have just two words for you brother, KEEP GOING.

Many successful today have always tasted failure, frustration amidst other tribulations, but rather than vest their fraustrations into getting engagd in something negative, they never gave up, they kept going. That is what makes them HEROS.

The day I read about Seun Osewa's biography, I reached a conclusion that no one is bound to fail but succeed.

As regard your quest you can read up this article I created some time ago

I think the importance of good education can not be over emphasized.

First, get quality education then good exposure via internship and mentorship.

Second, associate with people who are heading in your direction. Build teams and break records.

It's never as simple as it appears on paper, neither is it as easy as motivational speakers put it, but keep striving

You said it all, I prefer your post than that of the OP's

How did you reach this conclusion that dropouts make up the world's richest? That's untrue. Generally, entrepreneurs who go to college usually out-earn entrepreneurs without a college education. You also have to wonder why so called entrepreneur "dropouts" like to go to the best schools to pick the best students.

I guess, it is because the best students will definitely make the best employees.

No college entrepreneur out-earns a college drop-out, most of the world richest earned their college degrees after they've made their money.

That said the ones who went to school, studied a course that was in line with their passion. eg Warren Buffett

This is one of the cause of mediocrity in our society.
Wrong person with the right certificate is given the job of supervising over technical department he/she knows nothing about
the end point is that there will be no desirable result
It is high time we begin to base our interview and recruitment prerequisite based on ability and experience
I have seen matured SSCE certificate holder with 15 years experience performing better in certain field than BSc with 5years of same experience.
For example, in IT field, most of computer science graduates cannot write a simple java program
But there are some SSCE who can use java and servlet very well.
Many mechanical engineering graduates who does not know anything
Education and certification has to be redefined.

EDUCATION BEYOND CERTIFICATE::::

It is hightime we gave another definition to the term "education". To some people, education borders on going to school, acquiring degrees and working for a company to earn a salary at the end of the month.

My dear readers, education goes beyond acquiring certificate, "we must redefine education"....

Education teaches you about how to make rules, break rules, and challenge an ongoing trend, school teaches you about how to follow rules, live by the rules, and live an ongoing trend unchallenged, thereby limiting that power of creativity in you.

Have you witnessed a scenerio whereby you asked a Maths lecturer about how he arrived at a certain formula, and he tells you "that is how it is done"?, and mind you, if you do anything contrary...you FAIL his exam, therefore you must follow the rules.

A truly educated man is he who has developed the faculties of his mind to follow his passion, find solutions where there are problems without following the rules, but creates his own ways through his deep imagination to achieve his dreams.

Checkout most of the world's richest people today, they are mostly school dropouts. Do you think they are not educated because they are school dropouts? Far from it! They are really educated in their own ways, they simply decided to build their own dreams rather than allow themselves to be hired by other people to builld theirs.

So many people spend their precious years in school only to end up acquiring cerificate NOT education.

Examples of these people include:

1) * People who don't practise what they learn in school before graduation.

As a student of Computer Science, how many codes have you written that worked? Have you been able to (in reality) write a program that solves the problem of an organisation?

As a student of Business Administration, how many businesses have you started? How many times have you exprienced failiure in business, and rise again?

So, are you putting what you are learning in school into practice?

The school will not give or teach you these orientation but education will.

2)*People who have no SKILLS...successful people don't depend on the government of their country to provide jobs for them. A truly educated person has skills, an uneducated fellow can only boast of his certificate without any skills to back it up.

True education lies in the abilty to solve problems with the skills you possess.....what are you waiting for? STAND UP NOW, do not procrastinate, learn a skill you are passionate about.

What am I advocating?
This writeup is not in anyway articulated to undermine the importance of schooling...Going to school is very important but our mindset about school is what we are advised to change.

TRUE EDUCATION PREPARES YOU TO SURVIVE WITHOUT YOUR CERTIFICATE.

A thousand blessings on you for this writeup.

The fact that most Nigerian graduates have no skill what so ever, surely contributes to the high unemployment rate.

Certificate without any skill is a waste! IMO
