Rochas-Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has requested universities in the country and other institutions of higher learning to stop making credit passes in English language and Mathematics compulsory for those seeking admission.

He lamented that the practice of making the two subjects compulsory for admissions has aborted the ambition of many brilliant students who could, for one reason or the other, not credit both subjects, to further their education.

The Governor, who spoke yesterday when the Registrar of the National Examination Council, NECO, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba visited him at the Government House Owerri, with his team, noted that the time has come for all relevant bodies to help the education sector and assist students with the ambition of pursuing higher education.

why don't we just remove testing all together then?

maybe we should just ask our kids to simply walk into the universities of their choice and start learning on a first come, first serve basis.

But why should a science or engineering student who had grade A and Bs in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Agricultural Science/Geography be denied admission because of a failure or a pass in English Language?

Did he write those subjects in Vernacular?

I agree with him, the president of Nigeria didn't pass mathematics too.. Yet he is running one of the largest economy in the world.

why set standards at all? We are already living in a free-for-all country.

APC people are very shameless people, their president is certificate-less and now one of their governors is agitating to make illiteracy a norm just to see that their president is not the only illiterate without certificate.

University Admissions requirements shouldn't be a freeway...

He should have just said English. As for Maths it all depends on the student choice of study, A science student must have credit in Maths. Even now they are some courses that a credit in Math is not all that important. English is overrated.

As much as I love maths...I support this, not everyone has a sound knowledge of calculation,Back then I use to have a friend in art department who speaks English as fluently as FFK and writes like Agarawu23,Buygala,Naijaboiy,Vizkiz and William Shakespare(Lol) , Give him simple expansion he'd spend hours at it and still won't get the answer, Imagine one having A1 in Literature, Government, English and all the art subject but denied admission cox he couldn't have a credit in Maths......Quite pathetic right? It sounds as much

Mr Governor, you are not Education minister, so keep your skewed opinion to your self. We are talking about a falling standard of education and how to salvage you are introducing another cheap way to bombard our institutions with graduate that won't be able to correctly fill forms in NYSC or Graduate that won't be able to handle aptitude test...later they will say, they can't get jobs.

If others can make the compulsory maths and english no excuse of either am a notherner or southerner
