But why should a science or engineering student who had grade A and Bs in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Agricultural Science/Geography be denied admission because of a failure or a pass in English Language?

Did he write those subjects in Vernacular?

Very very uneducated suggestion. How can we progress without mathematics? How can we understand mathematical and scientific questions without the language used to learn it? He's just created an avenue for lazy students to continue to revel in ignorance. AFRICA!!! Your development is still far!

He should have just said English. As for Maths it all depends on the student choice of study, A science student must have credit in Maths. Even now they are some courses that a credit in Math is not all that important. English is overrated.

English is not overrated because it's Nigeria's official language and language used for education. So as long as we are still Nigeria it should be compulsory.

Not possible. I even think more emphasis should be placed on Science, traditional language and Maths. English is also important because it is the trading and business language of the world, however I don't think it should have such priority as to deny one admission to university based on passing English.

What was the rational behind the Governor's counsel ? When somebody of his caliber has nothing intelligent to say,it is better to keep quiet . This type of agitation is an end time one. Mr Governor this is to bad from you

We are talking of Nigeria and not any foreign country here and moreover, knowledge of any language adds nothing to ones intelligent quotient.

If USA war college can accept Buhari who scored F9 in mathematics (in WASC) then your logic holds no water.
