Ok, I am back. Am sorry, but Oluwa Glass Company Plc is currently closed down. This company was one of the largest producers of glass sheets in Nigeria in the Okitipupa /Igbokoda axis of Ilaje area in Ondo State.

It got its raw materials from the abundant silica sand and quartz in that area. In its heydays when the likes of Volkswagen Assembly Plant in Lagos, and Peugeot Motor Plant in Kaduna were still churning out thousands of vehicles for the Nigerian masses in the mid-80s to early 90s before they went under, and were recently revived under GEJ's automotive policy, Oluwa Glass used to manufacture windscreens for both firms. undecided

Here is an article I saw recently on the status of some industries in Ondo state. It also lists the fate that befell Oluwa Glass Plc.

PDP can’t retain power in Ondo | The Nation Newspapers |

Omooba Abayomi Adesanya is the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State. He spoke with DAMISI OJO on preparations for next year’s governorship elections and others partisan issues.

Q: You always describe the Mimiko administration as non-performing. What do you think the APC has in stock to change the tempo, if it comes to power?

A: My criticism of this administration has been constructive and issue-based. Exposing the ills and anti-people policies of Mimiko’s government. He runs the state like an emperor and with deceit. Our governor has failed in all his electoral promises. His regime has been a dark period in the history of Ondo State. Nothing is working.

Ondo State has about 11 state-owned industries or more, but today none is working. Oluwa Glass Factory, Igbokoda, with 5,000 workforce is moribund, Okitipupa Oil Palm Plantation with about 1,600 staff strength is dysfunctional, Owena Mass Transit is in extinction, Ifon Ceramics is history, the state Forest Reserve (afforestation) has been deforestated, Owena Dam and the water cooperation that usually supply pipe-borne water to every home in the state is now a dream.

The ever functional General and Specialist Hospitals, Clinics and Maternity Homes built in all the villages and towns across the state now exist in the imagination, Bolorunduro Timbre is gone, to mention but a few.

All these we are going to resuscitate and bring back to life when we get to power. Resuscitating them will create thousands of jobs opportunities to our teaming jobless youths. The APC government in Ondo State will build confidence and hope for the people. We are also targeting between 300 and 500 kilometres of roads in each of the 18 local government areas of the state, to open up the rural areas. We will also abide by our party’s manifesto to the letter. Kindly read the rest here: http://thenationonlineng.net/pdp-cant-retain-power-in-ondo-4/

However,as has been explained above, this is a title of unknown exigencies because once partisan politics resumes, the profile and role of the holder is muted. Nonetheless, one thing must be borne in mind always; partisan politics or not, the Yoruba, discerning and fastidious as ever, are eminently adept at differentiating and separating the chaff from the substance.

They know who is in politics in search of lucre, position and patronage, personal aggrandizement, hence not every politician can even remotely be considered let alone be chosen to hold this title .

For the foreseeable future, as far as the eyes can see, the only known feature of the Nigerian federation is the unknown.

Hence this title and its utility under the extant dispensation, cannot be assailed. It is to the eternal credit of Obafemi Awolowo, that the benchmark by which any holder of the title would be assessed was established by him.

Dwindling Allocation: Osun Suspends Promotion, Confirmation of Staff

As a result of the belt-tightening measures due to the dwindling allocation from the federal government, Osun state government may have suspended promotion of old members of staff in its employment.

The state government had a few weeks ago issued a memo detailing some measures it intended to introduce as a result of the drop in its monthly allocation to civil service in the state to cut down cost.

Few of the measures the government proposed in the memo was certificate based transfer that may see those working outside their field of study, getting transferred back to the appropriate section.

However since the memo was released in late September, no action has been taken in that direction, fuelling speculations that government may have dropped the proposal to avoid negative reaction from the organised labour movement.

There is no money to rely on from Federal allocation – Aregbesola

OSOGBO – The Governor of Osun state, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has said that states of the federation must look inward for their survival as funds coming to them from the federation account can no longer support their development projects.

Aregbesola said with Osun’s receipt of N55 million for the month of September, the message was clear that all avenues hitherto untapped must now be examined in order to sustain development initiatives.

The Governor stated this at the commencement of the reconstruction of Orita-Olaiya-Ita-Olokan Road at Olaiya Junction to commemorate the 5th year of the Aregbesola-led government in Osun.

The project is part of the designs to ensure smooth transportation within the state capital, Osogbo.

He pointed out that money coming from the Federation Account has dipped badly hence the need for people of the state to look inward in advancing the course of the state by returning to Agriculture.

He said, “We must at this point tell ourselves the truth, there is no money coming from the federation account, 34 million barrels of Niger‎ia’s crude oil are on the sea without buyers.

“Money coming from the Federation Account has dipped seriously and our hope for survival is in our hands, what our forefathers lived on was agriculture.

“We must now go back to the farms and work. We also need to pay our taxes so that government can meet its responsibilities. For September, our state got N55.8 million. The money we received cannot pay for the power supply by IBEDC that we use at the state Secretariat‎ monthly”. The governor told people at the programme.

Advising people to adhere to town planning rules, Aregbesola also added that the issue of separating houses during road constructions and expansions could have been avoided if there had been strict adherence to town planning rules in the past.

He emphasised that his government regret and offer sincere sympathy to those that will be affected with the construction of the road which his administration is embarking on.

The Governor admonished those affected to see this as their own sacrifice of the present administration’s effort to enhance the status of our cities for better living conditions of the generality of the people.

Aregbesola stated that Mess rs RATCON Construction Company Limited will be undertaking the reconstruction of the road at the cost of N985,115,410.78 million.

He said, “The expansion of the road and the need to have a reasonable setback unfortunately meant that some buildings are already standing in the way and has to be separated. This could have been avoided if there had been strict adherence to town planning rules in the past.

“We regret this and offer sincere sympathy to those affected. They should see this as their own sacrifice in our efforts to beautify our city and develop a decent human environment. Nevertheless, we have set aside the sum of N392 million to the 127 people whose buildings were affected”.

The Governor appealed to people of the state to bear with government on the pains and discomforts associated with the road construction projects embarked upon, especially Gbongan-Akoda Road, noting that the delay was due to the unexpected financial challenges that befell the nation.

He assured that all the projects embarked on by his government will be completed before the end of the present administration.

The Managing Director, Messrs RATCON Construction, Engr. Fouad Howayek held that Aregbesola deserves commendation for the massive on-going road construction works in the state.

He noted that RATCON has been partner with Osun since the first term of Aregbesola’s administration in the area of rehabilitation and construction of road projects.

‎According to him, “This kind of unprecedented achievement recorded in the last four years is an attestation to the fact that Mr. Governor’s passion for the rapid development of the state is undisputed,” The RATCOM boss stated

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Nurudeen Adeagbo, stressed that the dual carriage way of Olaiya-Asubiaro-Ita Olokan spanning 2.8km forms the second phase of of on-going rehabilitation of selected roads in Osogbo township.

He stated that the road could have been executed along with others in the first phase if not for the paucity of funds in the state, adding that a total of N392 million will be required to pay compensation to people whose property will be affected by the reconstruction.

‎Adeagbo said, “This road project is to be executed by Messrs RATCON Construction Company Ltd. The company that handled the completion of 21 selected Osogbo township roads totaling 26.69km and the on-going Bisi Akande trumpet road awarded at N29.22 billion”

SouthWest leaders are stupid and visionless.
There was an OK free trade zone that was supposed to be cited in the Olokola area of Ondo/Ogun states. The present Dangote refinery under construction around the Lekki axis was supposed to have been cited there.
Instead of them to have put enough pressure on the guy and the other involved chinese investors to ensure that the Olokola area is developed, they allowed them to move it to Lagos state, when we know very well that Lagos is already teeming with enough commerce and industry.
Why must we put all our eggs in one basket, what kind of visionless leadership is that?

We need another developed coastal city in Yorubaland. Southern Ondo state in the Ilaje Axis would be my location of choice, or somewhere in Ijebuland.

You are still in tune with current trends...don't worry! cheesy

Anyway, I am glad Osun is looking at other sources of revenue. What they need to do is to devise and articulate a strategy for getting people back to the farms. They should take the following steps:

1). Work with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to acquire or designate vast tracts of land as farming settlements in each local government area, where Osun citizens can get access to the farmlands at little or no cost; sad

2). Invite foreign and local food processing companies and entrepreneurs into the state, to process part of the farm produce at source, so that it does not go bad after harvesting due to poor storage and logistics;

3). Work out a logistics structure with haulage firms for getting the farm crops to markets in neighbouring cities at an affordable cost, quickly and efficiently. undecided

4). Create massive awareness among the populace in the state on how they can become successful farmers and fishermen, by following certain prescribed steps to get access to farmlands, tools, fertilisers, business advisory support and other inputs.

Gbam!! cheesy I have said it before over and over, if Nigerians do not exploit the potentials of their waterways, they would lose out on a huge source of revenue and an efficient way to ease transportation for the masses.

Someone once told me that from Lagos to Ondo State via the waterways is just a journey of 2 and half hours. I don't know if his estimates are accurate. Why can't an interstate ferry service be developed?? It would beat having to stay choked up in Lagos-Ibadan expressway traffic, just because I want to get to Ondo by road. sad

Ever since I can remember, the bitumen in Ondo state has been a subject on the pages of newspapers. What has been done to actively market and exploit this resource? Very little. It is just so sad. undecided

Dangote's refinery should not be the only one in the South-West. It was reported recently that Buhari has issued licenses to 65 private investors to set up modular refineries. What has Ondo State government done to actively get some of them to site those refineries in Ilaje area?? Lagos State has a Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources charged with actively seeking investment opportunities that would enable the state tap into the oil & gas sector. What is Ondo State with its potential oil wells doing?? shocked shocked

This is Yorubaland and surrounding area of allied groups, the most urbanised country in Sub Saharan Africa. Notice that most of our big cities are inland in the tropical forest, with a few in the Savannah like Ilorin, Saki, Kishi, Fiditi Etc ...
The coastal area has just lagos, and the Ijebu Cities as only noticeable settlements of note. The Ilaje area does not even any major have motorable roads linking into it , in an area with massive potential. Why can't the Olokola FTZ be developed? This will bring settlement and development into the area and we would be spoilt with choices.
Western Oyo is also scanty with lots of free land. Why cant people like Adenuga and the rest of them build an industrial park there or something?

Land dispute: Lekki Free Zone MD, Disu, killed on peace mission

Managing Director (MD) Lekki Worldwide Investment Company, otherwise known as the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Mr. Tajudeen Disu, was yesterday morning shot dead at the Lekki area of Lagos.

Also, in critical condition are the Chief Security Officer of Dangote Refinery, simply identified as Colonel Usman (retd) and three policemen, who were severely stabbed.

The tragedy happened during a protest by members of Okunraye Community of Lekki, who were protesting the siting of an oil refinery in the area.

Already,12 persons including two community leaders have been arrested in connection with the protest and the murder of Mr. Disu.
Daily Sun gathered that the community allegedly led by the Baale and the head of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in the area had trooped out en masse at the refinery site, demanding that workers should vacate the area as it was not officially sold to them.

It was gathered that Disu was trying to calm down the angry protesters, assuring them that they would be well compensated when someone opened fire and shot him dead.

It was also gathered that the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Dangote, Usman and three Policemen, who were trying to save Disu were severally stabbed and macheted by hoodlums who hijacked the protest.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joseph Offor, said the command had initially arrested 20 suspects in connection with the murder.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has expressed shock and sadness over Disu’s murder and had urged the Police Commissioner to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.

Ambode, who said this while fielding questions from journalists yesterday said the late Disu was shot by assailants during an official visit to one of the villages within the zone in the early hours of Monday.

“We are deeply touched with the loss of our dedicated officers at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Alhaji Tajudeen Disu, who was until his death the arrow head of the Free Trade Zone Initiative. He was killed within the Lekki Free Trade Zone this morning.

“It really saddens my heart and the heart of all of us because this was somebody that has been dedicated to his duty in the past 10 years.”
Ambode described the late Disu as a man who was committed to promoting the inflow of investment to Lagos State and also expressed concern over the motives of those behind the killing.

However, Offor said the police still had the Baale and the chairman of the O’Odua People’s Congress (OPC) and other high profile community members in custody.

Also, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, said the late Disu was using his relationship with the community to pacify the protesters when he was shot.

Mr. Owoseni said Disu was rushed to the hospital but could not survive the gunshot.

He confirmed that three policemen, who tried to rescue him were also injured by the hoodlums.

He added that investigation has commenced. “We have arrested 12 suspects in connection with the murder. We arrested many but after
screening them, we released some and we are keeping 12 suspects.

“We would do a diligent investigation and we must ensure that those arrested would be charged to court as soon as possible, adding that Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations has already visited the scene.
“We will go after the sponsors of the protest and I can assure you that the investigation will be carried out speedily and diligently.”

But they would rather get stuck in Ibafo-Mowe or Ibadan innercity because they want to visit Akure or Ado.
