http://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2015/11/30/boko-haram-destroys-nigerian-military-base-107-troops-mia BOKO HARAM DESTROYS NIGERIAN MILITARY BASE By IBRAHIM ADULAZIZ and MICHELLE FAUL, Associated Press YOLA, Nigeria (AP) — Boko Haram destroyed a Nigerian military base as soldiers fled and only self-defense fighters prevented the insurgents from retaking a northeastern town, residents said Monday. The civilian fighters held Gulak town after soldiers ran away Sunday night until the military sent reinforcements who fought off the extremists, former council chairman James Ularamu told The Associated Press. The military base was burned down, said Ularamu. Sunday night's attack came as a military intelligence officer confirmed that 107 soldiers remain missing nearly two weeks after a Nov. 19 battle. The attackers drove off with an army T-72 tank and dozens of new camouflage uniforms, according to the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on the issue. Nigeria's military has denied dozens of soldiers are missing. Premium Times newspaper first reported the soldiers from the 157 Battalion, including their commanding officer, were missing in action along with the tank, three artillery guns and eight trucks including one carrying 60,000 rounds of ammunition. The military has reported that it destroyed dozens of Boko Haram camps and freed more than 1,000 kidnap victims in recent weeks. But Boko Haram has stepped up the tempo and range of its attacks, with raids and suicide bombings in the past week in Niger, Cameroon and northern Nigeria. Early Sunday the extremists kidnapped dozens of girls and set ablaze hundreds of buildings in Bam in Borno state, said resident Mallam Ali. The setbacks come as Nigeria's government admitted it cannot crush by December the 6-year uprising that has killed some 20,000 people. ___ Faul reported from Lagos, Nigeria. ___ This story has been corrected to show that the battle in which dozens of soldiers went missing took place 11 days ago on Nov. 19 and not five days ago. The same way we SA guests and Nigerians alike can find comfort in both nations miseries, we can also use the time to constructively build and work on initiatives to uplift both nations out of our shared curses of poverty, corruption, under development and diseases burdens. Poverty is poverty whether you earn $1 a day or $10. The only thing that matters is the legacy you leave behind when you die. Now back to military discussions aka african armed forces ridiculing please!!! |

DieVluit: LOL !!!! We've seen so many of these false stories too many times. Next week now the same newspaper will apologize for publishing a false story they sourced from an anonymous poster on Facebook. Wait till Nigerian army responds to this new cõçk and bull story written by an American news reporter sitting down safely in Lagos 1,000 km away from the battlefield of Northern Nigeria, writing war report from text messages sent to her from unidentified and nameless sources. Two weeks ago but it was old video of Congo DRC soldiers victims of an ambush by rebels that was circulated all over the phone intenet as missing 150 Nigerian soldiers, the foolsh news media could not even notice that the soldiers were speaking French.... LOL ...many South African fools were also circulating same video..... too blind by their wish to know insult Nigeria's mighty army, the Southy dullards were not intelligent enough to know that the so called missing Nigerian soldiers had the flag of Congo Republic on their uniforms.... Fools, no wonder Egypt is overtaking their economy while Somalia sends illiterate immigrants to take over their trading businesses and mini shops in their own homeland. mzilakazi:lol.I laugh in dothraki....let me educate you: normal Nigerian civilians do not possess firearms, this is to say that those so-called "civilian fighters" are actually militarily sanctioned CJTF fighters, who were trained and armed by the nigerian army to serve as local strike teams instrumental in holding towns already liberated by the army, protecting isolated locations within the theatre of combat, and serving as a coordinated liason force between the military and the local populace. The CJTF in an incorporation of the military itself, and is therefore a civilian detachment of our infantry force. There is nothing humiliating about the CJTF confronting rogue terrorists,it happens everywhere in the world. 1 Like |

Next week is but a few days away. We look forward to having this story archived as part of evidence on this thread. magane:mr mugabe, must we continue repeating verbose rhetorics all the time. CJTF is a military sanctioned militia,a volunteer force armed and trained by the military; it is not an ordinary mob of outraged hooligans whipped into a frenzy by tantalizing promises of money and bloodlust,as being depicted by the media. |

Meanwhile, you have a state of emergency and a full-blown military effort against BH and you have soldiers running away from the enemy. Shame on you. So bad you are that you've had to admit that you were being stupid when you told the world you'd crush BH by December. It's not as if we believed your clueless generals anyway. DieVluit:You think fighting a war is a simple banter of bullets and cannons?,no wonder you have quack engineers running MTN. Even prior to the inception of BH into the NE,every local district has its own civilian watchguard that monitors against suspicious activities and aids the police in acquiring information and conducting investigations; after BH started violent activities, the civilian watchguards were seen as an asset by the military brass due to their familiarity with the local populace and activistic symbolism, therefore upon volunteering, they were trained and armed to enable them serve as a reserve infantry and mundane recoinaissance unit: many of them are even familiar with BH members, and they therefore provide the much needed information needed to master both the local terrain and treacherous personalities. 1 Like 1 Share |

This group have always been armed before Boko Haram started you fool. They know every single villager in their area cos they operate in small remote area and they can easily identify a new Comer. CJTF can even give details of everyone's activities at any given time. |

Ibro105: All I need to know is that C stands for Civilian. Alongside the fact that all you have are stories, but you have no denial. So, for as long as C stands for Civilian, your military has had to resort to seeking assistance from civilians. End of story. Where and when they got armed is irrelevant. Besides, they are known to have asked for guns from your FG. So, give us a break. http://www.theparadigmng.com/2014/05/15/civilian-jtf-fg-give-us-arms-fight-boko-haram/ 1 Like |

DieVluit:lol, you are being petty. Trained civilians "helping" a military to fight terrorism is hardly unheard-of in modern warfare,I can spew forth a litany of fine examples if you like, but that is besides the point. Terrorism itself is a battle of civilian ideology, one of the gory phases of the clash of civilizations: it is a civilian fight,if the CJTF aids the army in repelling terrorists,it is nothing to be shameful about,it further serves as a show of strength and resilience of the Nigerian people, and a testament of our mastery of the military arts. |

EVarn: Petty by pointing out that a VIGILANTE group has been conscripted into your military effort? This is more than embarrassing. http://www.theparadigmng.com/2014/05/15/civilian-jtf-fg-give-us-arms-fight-boko-haram/ The vigilante group gave reasons why they should be allowed to carry arms like soldiers: “The Borno State government has done its best in supporting us through training and payment of our allowances which runs into millions of naira. LOL is the right response. Actually, Hahaha is. Don't tell us about terrorism being about ideologies. You had your opportunity to deal with it when BH were just a comical group of weirdos with Yusuf. But you were useless at dealing with them and under your watch, they grew into the deadliest terror group on the planet. 1 Like |

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/194189-boko-haram-strikes-again-in-adamawa-burns-down-military-artillery.html Boko Haram strikes again in Adamawa, burns down military artillery Rampaging Boko Haram militants on Sunday night engaged Nigerian troops in a fierce battle in their new bid to take over Gulak, the administrative headquarters of Madagali in northern part of Adamawa State. Security and local sources say the insurgents, who came in three vehicles brandishing guns, burnt down a military base as they also burnt down three artilleries and carted away guns. “They came around 7 p.m. and started firing on the soldiers during which all the soldiers ran away. “There was pandemonium, people scampered for their lives, many slept in bushes, they killed one soldier during the fierce battle. “Our local vigilantes had tried by staying back, until another troops were deployed from Madagali town and Shuwa, they engaged them, if not they would have recaptured the town for the second time,” said James Ularamu, former chairman of Madagali. The former Council chairman, and a local vigilante who did not want to be named, said there were heavy gun battles. The local vigilante, who couldn’t say whether there were casualties from the Boko Haram side, said “after we chased them away they fled to the nearby Sambisa area.” Efforts to get the army spokesperson were futile, but a member representing the area at the house of Representatives, Adamu Kamale, confirmed the attack. He, however said he did not have “much details for now”. The state commissioner of information, Ahmed Sajo, said additional troops had been deployed to the area. |

DieVluit: Shame on South Africa, your useless army is failing everyday with operation Corona as gun smugglers and assassins pass under the pants and trousers of SANDF troops to wreck havoc in South Africa, smuggling thousands of AK-47 rifles and bullets to your armed gangs of murderers and hired killers, plus armed robbers who make South Africa the most violent ridden society in Africa and the crime capital of the continent. Shame, if only SANDF had not been so stupiid, all those AK-47 rifles would not have been smuggled into their homeland under your leaking nose. Yes operation Corona is an SANDF MILITARY OPERATION and your useless army is failing at home with a very small type of threat that can be defeated by even ordinary Nigerian mobile police force. Shame on the useless South African nation that CANNOT even secure itself in peace time, talk less of a war ! Shame ! 1 Like |
