Today,1st Of December Is World Aids Day!!! by younginfopreneur: 3:36am On Dec 01, 2015 |
ABOUT WORLD AIDS DAY WHAT IS WORLD AIDS DAY? World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988. WHY IS WORLD AIDS DAY IMPORTANT? Over 100,000 people are living with HIV in the UK. Globally there are an estimated 34 million people who have the virus. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history. Today, scientific advances have been made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect people living with HIV and we understand so much more about the condition. Despite this, each year in the UK around 6,000 people are diagnosed with HIV, people do not know the facts about how to protect themselves and others, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with the condition. World AIDS Day is important because it reminds the public and Government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. WHAT SHOULD I DO ON WORLD AIDS DAY? World AIDS Day is an opportunity to show support to and solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV. Wearing a red ribbon is one simple way to do this. Find out where you can get a red ribbon. World AIDS Day is also a great opportunity to raise money for NAT (National AIDS Trust) and show your support for people living with HIV. If you feel inspired to hold an event, such as a bake sale, or simply sell red ribbons, visit our fundraising page. If you’d like to see events that others are holding please visit our events page. BUT WHAT ABOUT AFTER WORLD AIDS DAY? Although World AIDS Day is a great opportunity to talk about HIV, it is important to keep the momentum going all year round. Sign up to NAT's newsletter which will keep you up to date with all the new developments in HIV and the work of the National AIDS Trust, or visit our website, HIVaware, for more information. #ReThinkHiv #WorldAidsDay http://www.worldaidsday.org/about cc:lalasticlala, ishilove, obinoscopy 6 Likes 1 Share

It's not about your first to comment or birthright. The message is clearly for you to go get tested and know your status. Simple 1 Like |

Just wear a red ribbon What is that going to change? I hope WHO or UNAIDS to organize free test and councelling centers accross the world like they have done in the years past. i believe very soon HIV/AIDS will be completely removed from the world. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Today, Nigeria has recorded significant success in the fight against AIDS. Under the leadership of Prof. John Idoko, NACA has succeeded in reducing the national prevalence rate of HIV infection. The PMTCT services now ensures that HIV+ pregnant women give birth to healthy HIV- babies. More HIV+ Nigerians now have access to ART prophylaxis. However, we still have a long way to go in winning the fight against HIV in Nigeria. Especially in this generation where unprotected casual sex, homosexuality, prostitution and other pervertive behaviors have become the norm. There is a great need to intensify awareness, advocacy and social mobilization for behavioral change by preaching abstinence from pre-marital sex, staying faithful to a single uninfected partner, practising safe sex with the use of condoms and living responsibly. To mark the World AIDS Day today, NACA, SACAs and others IPs will be conducting free HIV Counselling and Testing across FCT and other States of the Federation. Please take this opportunity or walk into an HCT unit in any hospital nearest to you at your leisure time and get tested. It is absolutely free! I and a team of other vibrant youths will commence a project early next year which is aimed at promoting behavioral change, encourage a responsible lifestyle and kick against the discrimination of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Although President Goodluck Jonathan signed the "PLWHA Anti-Discrimination Bill" into law at the twilight of his administration, there is little awareness of the existence of this law. Hence, PLWHA are still being discriminated against in their workplace, in the society and even within their family. We must stop the discrimination against PLWHA. It could be anyone. We can win this fight against AIDS, the first step is to get tested. HIV is real! Live Responsibly!! Valinda:Mr Man, if you won't get tested, then stop discouraging others. Also, it's called HIV test not "aids test". 2 Likes |

I wonder how this could be news. People hear about AIDS everyday. People contract it everyday. And, people die from it everyday. So, why should everyday thing be news? |
Re: Today,1st Of December Is World Aids Day!!! by Octano(m): 4:07am On Dec 01, 2015 |
We live in a completely interdependent world, which simply means we cannot escape each other. How we respond to Aids depends, in part, on whether we understand this interdependence. It is not someone else's problem. This is everybody's problem |
