This is a practical proof on why we are calling on the African Union to rise above the AMANI 2015 Exercise kind of old fashioned army training.

See the Malian army fail by using those same AMANI tactics.....line up IFV and start shooting at the enemy from a 'safe' distance.

The Malian force could not dislodge a few teenage rebel boys for many hours, the Malians kept hiding behind their IFV and refused to employ urban warfare tactics. The French army came in to show them how to fight a modern day urban war and the battle was over in minutes, the French troops dismounted from their IFV and advanced on foot to engage the enemy at close range in hand to hand combat.

That is how AU forces can deploy and win battles against El-Shabab, Boko Haram, AQIM, Ansar Deen, etc. Calling again on AU to rise above the 1970s Bush War style battlefield formation and demand the next AMANI exercise host to provide simulated sub-urban training environment like Chad did for FLINTLOCK 2015 and the USA was happy with them.

Unlike in previous incidents, the Iranians are fully denying. Something more is going on here

iran even being reoccupied in iraq and syria ,this hasnt stopped its ill intentions to carry out terror attacks against countries like israel who have considerable investment in kenya .just recently a dhow with several ATGM weapons was intercepted heading to yemen and houthi have being spotted with iranian made weapons.they assume due to wide spread corruption there is laxity in security in kenya

How did the Malian army even remotely use the same tactics than what was exercised at Amani Africa? Not even the public display exercise that you were trying to criticize, looked remotely close to what the Malians did.

Hiding behind their IFVs?? When in the 3 hour long video did you see a single soldier hiding behind a IFV? they were all lined up next to their APCs and IFVs, also the Amani video you saw which was more for entertainment purposes than an actual exercise, was of but one of many exercises during the 3 week long exercise!!

And in actual fact we did provide urban training facilities, during Amani, it was even during one of these exercises that one of our soldiers was killed when an Angolan soldier mistakenly loaded his AK with live ammunition instead of blanks.

what kind of an exercises is that a soldier is give live ammo when its not supposed to live fire exercise ! the mali using IFV for cover isn't the issue everyone does that ,the problem is there was no clear command ,everyone was issuing orders and firing wildly until they went low on ammo on no clear enemy.also getting sniped while walking and standing like an idiot on open ground

Jap it was an unfortunate incident, each country was responsible for supplying their own troops with blanks, obviously there was a massive miscommunication from Angola's side, but the strange thing was that only 1 soldier had live rounds.

The reason you didn't see any troops taking cover behind their APCs during Amani was due to the fact that it was a live fire exercise, all the troops have to be inline with their fellow troops and APCs to reduce the possibility of friendly fire. Also the video of Amani exercise was a totally different scenario than what happened in Mali.

Rest of your post I agree with 100%, the best/worst part is when their commander got sniped while standing in the middle of the road with absolutely 0 cover even remotely close to him.

exercises AMANI AFRICA was a simulation on an attack on an african country which has gone rogue as it happened during the rwanda genocide.now if were to carry out such a campaign one would need to secure airports, sea ports, airlifting thousands of troops and tons of equipment .degrading the air superiority and defence systems ,secure its air space e.t.c now does african standby force have a capability to carry out a such invasion ?

Exercise Amani had many different exercises during 3 weeks, ranging from counter insurgentsy to civilian Riot exercises.

Anyway getting back to your question, you make a very valid point, at this stage only the SANDF in the SADC region has the means to rapidly deploy a force anywhere in Africa and sustain such a force until reinforcements arrive, but even this force would be limited to about 3000 men, do we need more? Well that's debatable considering South Africa has never deployed more than 4000 troops outside our borders even during the border war.

If the AU want to be serious about the ASF then there are some countries that need to catch up...the AU can't rely on SA,Nigeria,Algeria and Egypt alone.

There is NO anti-rsa rhetoric in my comment, I am speaking for Africa as a continent, or is AU = rsa ?

I wont discuss this matter with you because you will rather see the whole of Africa sink into failure just to sheild your own rsa national pride.

Like you have no pan-African spirit in you at all, your thought is all about your own country;s pride even if that pride will make the rest of Africa to perish, you don't care one bit about this continent.

There is clear rhetoric - you constantly claim insufficient facilities were provided (without being able to substantiate the claim). And to say I would rather see Africa sink than let South African pride be harmed IMPLIES THAT YOU ARE INSULTING SOUTH AFRICA - you contradict yourself in your own post

and FYI, here is a video of men using MILES (most advanced training system on the continent), doing urban operations at Lethola (where AMANI was held) just 3 months before at EX Young Eagle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNo6axEV-6U

Now, clearly the facilities exist, clearly advanced training equipment exists and clearly all are available where AMANI was held. So, either they did do FIBUA orientated training or they did not - and if they did not, then it is because the NIGERIAN running the exercise deemed it unnecessary.

Stop coming here and making meaningless arguments based on your observations of 0.56% of an exercise and only 8% of the participants

I get your point! but when i meant co develop, i actually meant something like what South Africa will be doing with project Biro and what Nigeria did with the the P18 OPV, with an option of opening a production line in Nigeria.

The development cost(Which would be carried by Denel) wont be that much, considering the existing Rooivalk platform will be used, the Rooivalk 2 will basically be an avionics upgrade, integration of an Air-Air missile, replacing the current turret with a EO/IR turret and a possible engine upgrade.

Financing will also not be a problem considering Denel receives a minimum of 75 orders, which seems more likely everyday.

Government cooperation however is the only uncertainty.

I do agree with most of what you said. Would politics make it happen?".......... I seriously doubt this.

Was looking at INS kochi ( India's largest home built ship) and i was wondering when an African country would be able to build and deliver such size of a ship for our individual Navies.

AU and AMANI forces used the open field facilities as provided by the host country, USA and FLINTLOCK forces used the sub-urban plus open field facilities as provided by the host country. The burden of making provisions and creating battle theater scenario is on the host, you give what you want to give, nobody can force you to do what they want on your own soil.

The AMANI forces commander is Nigerian, yes, but the battlefield formation in not Nigerian army style, we don't array forces like that in a rigid order of battle, we are fluid and flexible, typical of British army background that we have. The AMANI formation is typical South African style built on the bush war type of battle theater.

AMANI troops have shown a summary of ALL they did in that video, from live ammo firing to police riot control, they are not hiding anything in secret like a cult, only you is fabricating stories that they have secret training that nobody else knows except you making up the imaginary stuff that does not exist. The summary of they type of training they did was displayed in 3 hours of video.

If they trained 8 hours daily for 3 weeks and take weekends off to rest, take time off when senior officers meet in HQ, then the total training hours is max likely about 150 hours for the whole AMANI exercise, you don't need a 150 hour long video to show summary of 150 hours training, 3 hours summary is enough. We have seen ALL they did, there is no secret cult thing hidden anywhere.

AU should step up their war game from that AMANI level and learn from Malian army's failure in urban COIN battle space. AU should train for the type of battles that are ravaging Africa today, they will likely not be needed for intervention in any nation vs nation style of conventional combat in this current era when most countries in Africa settle their quarrels at the AU meetings or UN mediation.

I have scratched this out because there is not a shred of evidence to support it:

1. I have shown that urban warfare facilities as well as modern training aids are available at Lethola - if you wish to alledge that they did not do Urban operations, please provide some facts to support the statement

2. If you wish to alledge that the PRESS DEMONSTRATION is a summary of all they did - please then provide some facts to support that statement.

3. If you wish to tell us how the exercise was conducted - please then provide some facts to support that statement

4. The "SANDF bush war style" formation they employed was used by us for COIN operations in Angola against PLAN camps thus it is highly applicable - if you wish to alledge that it is not then please provide some facts to support that statement

5. Stop citing Mali as an example, the French did exactly what we do - they rolled up in their IFV, established a base of fire, established fire superiority and then did a bounding assault - something that was infact demonstrated at AMANI

If you wish to come to this forum and level allegations, please provide some form of fact or evidence other than your own opinion to substantiate it.

I will not waste time with someone who judges an entire exercise based on their observations of a PRESS DEMONSTRATION comprising 0.56% of an exercise and only 8% of the participants

You havent done your research

The exercise was based on the Carana Scenario
http://www.eeas.europa.eu/csdp/documents/pdf/carana_scenario_en.pdf

Which is designed to train for 4G warfare

Since you obviously dont understand 4G Warfare, here is an educational video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdKt1zTT3IE

and here we see NATO doing the exact same thing as AMANI in the anticipation of hybrid-warfare, which is a form of 4G Warfare

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS3DROvygAw

You can thank me later.
