12 Most Memorable Childhood Games In The 80's 1. Who is in the garden ? This is one of the first game that would ever come to a child's heart back in the 80's, especially during the holidays, its a game which requires the children or should i say participants to form a circle by spreading out and holding hands, with a child in the middle of the created circle and another child outside the circle; who is to ask the question, which the game is all about, and it goes thus. Child outside the circle: Who is in the garden ? Participants: A little fine Boy/girl ! Child outside the circle: Can i come and/to see her ? Participants: No! No!! No! No !! After which the child outside the circle would have to choose who ever he/she likes among the participant to follow him/her by saying ''abeg my sister/brother to follow me'', now they are different rules to the game, its either the child outside the cirlcle would try breaking the cirlce and enter to see who is in the garden or the child in the center of the circle would try to break free from the circle and the other children participating in the game would run after to catch him/her. 2. S.T.O.P Stop! S.T.O.P Stop! Is a game which requires the participants to draw a circle on the ground and divide it into pies, ranging from 4 to 8 pies, each of the kids are to name their pies and claim it as their house, the common names are derived from the Tv channels that existed back then, thats NTA, AIT, DBN e.t.c or the children might just use their own names, like, Seun, Amaka or Musa. Now the game goes thus, after acquring a house(pie), a refree is elected, it could either be a none participating child or one out of the participating once, who is to stand in an inner circle, drawn in the middle of the bigger circle, then the refree is to give the command S.T.O.P Stop! During the pronounciation of S.T.O.P the participants are expected to run as far as they could away from the circle and must stop at the shouting of Stop! Then the participant in the inner circle is to either make a triple jump and step on whosoever he/she feels is closer or he/she would trow a seed; which could be a stick, stone, plactic ball, a ping-pong, a soft ball, e.t.c,, at any one who he/she feel is an easy target, once he/she is able to succeed in doing so, he/she gets a point and the whom who was either steped on or the seed been trown at then step into the circle,, and it continues like that untill there is a winner. 47 Likes |

We played the aforementioned games in the late 1990's too. If you folks didn't play the 'POLICE AND THIEVES' game then every game pales in significance. 16 Likes |

3. Police and Thief. This is also a great game, the game is all about a group of kids ''Police'' chasing after another group of kids ''Thiefs''. The game start by selecting the members of the police squard and the thief gangs, which is done by appointing one of the participants to recite the Alphabets A-Z, pointing to each person at the call of each alphabet, now if you fall on letter P, you'll be Police and if its T you'll be among the Thiefs. The duty of the police squard is to chase after, catch and jail the thieves,, until all the members of the thief gang are apprehended. The thieves are allow to make a jail break or espace when caught, this further makes it interesting . 27 Likes |

4. Suwe. Honestly i don't know the origin of this game, if its either African or foreign but i know its known worldwide. The game start by drawing a big rectangle on the floor, then divide it into smaller rectangles or boxes, ranging from 6-12 boxes, with equal amount of boxes on two parts/sides, the left and the right part/sides. Now there could either be just two players or groups of two team players. The game goes thus; each of the participants is to first have a seed, which could be created from anything, mostly from plastic or woods. Now they are to trow the seeds to each box according to the number, each box is numbered from 1 to the last number of boxes, that is; let say six boxes on each side/part, now the numbers would be from 1-6 on each side. After which the players are expected to jump over each boxes as the game proceeds, now this means a participant must jump over box named number 1, then hop on one leg over the next boxes, avoiding the demarcating lines, which if steped upon disqualifies the person or team, now participants are expected to keep on jumping over the boxes as the numbers proceeds, that is after hopping in on other boxes and its time to go on the second round, participants are expected to jump over 2 boxes, box number 1&2 at once and it continues as such, but at the end of each round, players are to back the big rectangle and trow the seed behind them, if it lands on the number they just hopped over then the box becomes theirs, that is they have bought the space and it would be called their house, they also have the right to name it to whatever they like but the seed must fall only on the side in which they hopped, this house is a save haven when jumping/hopping over the boxes, a player could do whatever they like on this box as its theirs, they are allowed to rest their legs, dance, jump, you name it but should never cross the lines of the box they've bought or would be disqualified. 69 Likes 4 Shares |

5. Hide and seek. This is also a very popular game and kids all over the world love it till date, now just has the name goes its simply hide and seek, a child would be selected to close his/her eye and count, mostly to ten(10) or any other number, one choosen by other players, then at the end of counting he/she is expected to go fish out where everyone is hidding or atleast to fish out one of the participants, who would now take his/her place, to count and then seek out someone. 32 Likes |

6. After Round 1 (scissors). Now this is a funny one, you don't dare it if you don't have the stomach for it, its a game very similar to the intenationally know sciccors, a group of players are expected to pick a number and then each will signify a number with the fingers of one hand and all fingers would be counted to arrive at a number if the number actualised was choosed by any of the players then that player wins, e.g lets say there are five players and each choose from number 1-5 respectively, and then all droped a finger each, the player that choosed 5 wins, this continues until the last player is left without an opponent, which means he/she is the looser, the other players then procced to beating or hitting the back of the loosers palm until the looser could weave all their hands from hitting him/her. The starting song goes thus: After round one, original panadol extra won tun gbe de. 53 Likes 3 Shares |

7. Bread & Butter. This is a game which two team leader would be choosen and named Bread and Butter, now these two would raise their hands and clap to a rhyme, as all the players would take turns passing under their hands as they recite the rhyme which goes thus: Bread and butter, baskelebe, mo jo gbono, baskelebe, ma jo tutu, baskelebe, a question would then be asked from whoever is under their raised clapping hands at that point when the rhyme ends, and the question is; Omodeyi ki lo mu (Translation: You this child, which would you pick ?) then the child is expected to choose from either bread or butter, and would go behind whoever is representing his or her choice; bread or butter. At the end when the last player has made his/her choice, a thug is next, the team that wins the thug, wins the game. 35 Likes 4 Shares |

8. Street soccer. Smiles on my face as i type this childhood game, mehn! Soccer Stars like Mikel Obi were mostly discovered from such street matches, its a football match between houses on a street or matches between streets, teams players are selected and choosen to play, its either a less than eleven players team or the standard eleven players team, which ever it is, its fun all the way. The trophy or street cup is usally made from one bulb; which could either be new or used, a tin of milk, about two to three packs of cigarettes and a bottle of glue/gum. A whole big enough to hold the bulb would be bored in the tin, then the bulb would be placed into the tin and it would then be covered up by the inner glitering part of the cigarette with the glue/gum. 42 Likes 3 Shares |

9. Table soccer. Now just like any soccer match, two teams would come against each other but in this case, its played on a board, bench, table or even on the floor, the players are represented by crownters, the ball a botton, the post would be made from paper and the whole team would be controled with either a hand or a bic cover by one human player. Mehn, the back of my drawing board was a table soccer field, Lol i bet you know what i mean 47 Likes 3 Shares |

Examples of yarb/mess below. * You mess kuli kuli form voltro. * You cheat here, you cheat there, they find the LCM. * You mess all the fish wey they inside water shout, are we saved. * You tootoo belle like 7 O'clock News.
