Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, yesterday escaped what his aide described as “an attempt on his life.”

The incident occurred along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport area in Abuja while Tukur was on his way to Owerri via Abuja Airport to receive a doctorate degree award from the Federal University of Technology (FUTO) Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Speaking on the incident, Prince Oliver Okpala, the Special Assistant, Media, to Tukur, said, “It happened as his convoy, made up of four jeeps were driving to the airport, and a tinted Hilux van emerged and attempted to break into the convoy while heading towards Ambassador Tukur’s jeep. But his security escort prevented this move.”

Okpala explained further that the hilux had forcefully run into the convoy hitting and damaging three of the jeeps including that of Tukur in the process, adding, “Then the occupants of the hilux demanded that the door of the car should be opened and the occupant pulled out. The hilux’s occupants also fought to disarm the security aides of their guns and this met some resistance.”

In the process, the occupants of the hilux, whoever they are, manhandled the policemen, but Alhaji Tukur and his driver cleverly escaped from the scene.”

Okpala said further, “As my boss alighted to board the aircraft, the same people again tried to reach him, possibly to execute their motive, but the airport security now joined his security details to subdue them before Tukur was quickly rushed to the departure hall.”

Okpala said they have notified the police of the development, but added that no arrest has been made.

My ambition is not worth the Blood of any Nigerian but the money that should be used to procure arms for our soldiers was diverted to Jonathan election campaign and our soldiers were running for their lives when they ran out of bullets and boko haram had an open day maming, killing and kidnapping angry

This is what you see when people make comments without reasoning... I want to ask-
1. If the security details attached to Tukur can overpower the so called assailants, why were they not arrested?

2. If the van used was damaged as alleged ,how did the attackers able to still follow Tukur to the airport?

3. How come none of them was arrested when the airport security joined his own to overpower them at the airport?

Pls tell another lie.. this one no sell.

Story for the gods.......Na so paranoia dey start. I won't be surprised if he is invited by the EFCC for a friendly chat next week. grin

If these supposed assailants are operatives of the DSS,make he dey gear up to release his album and vomit the yams.

Memoranda from various stakeholders have started pouring in before the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee set up to investigate contract awards for the Rehabilitation of Railway tracks and the procurement of Coaches and Locomotives between 2010-2014. “Nigerians would be shocked at the level of massive frauds committed by highly placed government functionaries when the findings of this committee are made public,” a source close to the committee told Vanguard, yesterday. According to the source, already, many good spirited members of the public have submitted detailed momeranda on how a few government functionaries literally stole several billions of Naira under the guise of rehabilitating the nation’s Railway network.

Sources said that a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF and two former National Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who held very key positions on the Board of the NRC were said to have been fingered as having taken decisions that were less than in public interest in the rehabilitation project.

It was learnt that while it would be difficult for top management of the corporation and the Federal Ministry of Transport to claim ignorance in what went wrong some of them who were not involved have come forward to volunteer information on how much of the infractions were carried out. It was learnt that there were cases were coaches and locomotives procured were way far from specifications for which public funds were paid and that in some cases, payments which had already been made through the regular budgetary provisions were repeated through the SURE-P window.

As learnt the worse method through which those involved fleeced the nation was complete refusal to do jobs after collecting money for them. Consequently, out of a total contract sum of N79.337 billion for various segments of the rehabilitation, N42. 086 billion had allegedly been paid to the contractors but with very little work done.

His security details and airport security subdued the would be assassins but couldn't arrest them.

Why is PDP doing all this, just to win sympathy from the public.

First it was Ekweremadu now Bamanga Tukur and with all their security escorts those people keep escaping.

Whoever came up with this cock and bull story is insane.

I think we also need to sponsor a bill at the national assembly against false alarm of assasination and attack by our politicians and public office holders with a minimum of 5 year jail term.

Then all these nollywood scripts will stop......Rubbish!!!
