@erimmy I understand you are trying to defend the Nigerian immigration service but you and i know its a well established fact that even if the documents are complete, they do extort travelers especially those who are travelling for the first time on a whole lot of flimsy excuses. I do understand that they are some people whose documents are not complete, i do understand about that but what about those who have compete documents and but still are extorted most especially letting them miss their flight. I only need you to answer a question because i understand that you are trying to say that they don't do what the extort. DO THEY EXTORT TRAVELERS AT THE AIRPORT EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE THE RIGHT AND COMPLETE DOCUMENTS. YES/NO , |

I have been following this interesting post and i was really disappointed in @erimmy, you don't have to defend what is obvious and generally known to be true. We are not kids on this forum and i will enjoin you to personally investigate before defending this allegation, I have been stamped in and out of other countries but my experience at LOS is annoying and i can conclude that necessary department must look into this shameful deed of Nigeria Immigration. I believe that we the Nairalander can help exposing this extortionist, however i encourage everyone traveling to get a SPYPEN and attach it to their front pocket to record both Departure/Arrival Experience, We can forward it to Sahara reporter or other reputable media for publicity. i guess by doing that we will help shaping the nation. #Notoextortion |

Burger01: When I advised that you shouldn't swim in untested waters, you thought that I was joking. Now you see your life.Where in all my posts did I mention that I am a customs officer, let alone being a fake one as you dreamt. Anyway i don't blame you. There are many of you here who don't seem to know the difference between agencies of government, their functions and their uniforms That's why ignorant persons just like yourself would mistake one agency of government to another, especially when you are in that your so called "harassed and extorted state " Stop claiming oversabi and take your civic education seriously.Anyway, since I have a concrete evidence that you neither know what colour of uniform the immigration service officials wear nor their functions, I will henceforth as a matter of principle refuse to reply your wails you call quotes.#waillingwailler. |

erimmy: Not trying to start an argument here but if you speak for yourself with regards to this issue, then its fine. different strokes for different folks. However, It doesnt deter the fact that such a thing as collecting money from passengers coming into the country and bailing out of the country is still very rampant howbeit, differences in obtaining techniques.. Let me give you a typical example of my case. So i was in Nigeria back in August. when i was going back to my base, went to customs, my bag was checked and i was asked by a custom officer to drop something. mind you this guy was on uniform with his name tag,not some bullcrap clothing ( correct me if i am wrong isnt the customs uniform gray in color??) Moving on, so i went to the qatar airways to check in, proceeded to immigrations. Every thing was stamped and ready, then the immigration officer asked me to find him something. he even taught me how to hand over the cash to him (imagine that). Didnt stop there. so i cleared immigration and i was walking to the nearest lounge, i was stopped by another guy who wasnt on uniform so it was hard to ascertain is true role at the airport, however when he asked for my passport, i asked for his ID and then he was no long talk, just find me something... Now you would think that would be the end of that, Noope.... I got to my gate where we were searched and re-searched and to my greatest amazement, i was asked to find them something.... As i type this, i am in so much shock, i am not even sure how to conclude this piece. Here is what i can tell you though, Obtaining does exist. The good news is that if your papers are in order, then you can some worth stand your ground. I on the order hand cant be arsed to try becos well, i just cant be arsed... 3 Likes |

Truly many Nigerians extort at their places of work, others resort to demonic begging. For those of us who choose not to, its quite surprising seeing fellow Nigerians comply. Currently passing thru Port Harcourt International and it was just subtle begging which was mostly rejected until country man from Port Health spotted me out a which he was blessed with 5h for coke. The immigration people were efficient and well behaved, it's those blue guys with the xray machine that kept up the on the begging chorus but were mostly refused. |

erimmy: I'm afraid Erimmy, in your bid to defend your agency and colleagues, you have unfortunately missed the point. Forget grammar... The NIS guys at the lagos airports are messed up. I have lots of story to tell. People can not independently write horrible stories about an agency except something was truly wrong. What I will advice is you tell your colleagues to stop disgracing themselves and the country, and on the other hand enlighten Nigerians on travel documents and requirements. I bet if you stand firm to turn people back for doing the wrong thing, they may complain but will definitely respect you. Tell me why Nigerians historically dread FRSC? |
