This was my first post on this topic about 6 months ago. I hope it serves as inspiration to everyone who stumbled on this thread through a random Google search just like me. DW and I are proud parents to an American baby and this is courtesy the rich information we got from this wonderful thread. This thread will not die if people who have benefited continue to give back. Peace!

firsttymum: Hello firsty, It's better you nurse directly. Get a nursing cover and try to get an aisle seat and you are good to go. |

Hello House, Please does anyone know of any cheap hospital in Georgia, Atlanta? Something within the price range of Oakbend medical center in Houston. Thank You. 1 Like |

Apple19: You have the right to change your mind. But thankfully for you, both Dallas and Houston are in the same state of Texas. So that shouldn't be a problem. You may not really need a Dr's appointment for a specific date per se. I think an invoice that shows the details of the DR & hospital and costs will suffice. If you would be booking ur flight to Dallas or using the dallas address on ur landing card, then I'd advise you to get quotes from Dallas. You can always tell the CBP the reason you changed your mind. However, its not easy getting correspondence from Dallas but your hosts can get quotes from the hospital n Dr and forward to you. Wish you all the best. |

firsttymum: To me, the issue on circumcision in the US is not so much about the style. It's the cost that is more of an issue for me. The cheapest quote i got last year in Houston to do the naija style for my son was about $250 - when you can do it far cheaper back home. Thank God my cousin got his pediatrician friend who is Jewish to do it pro bono. The guy charges $600 for circumcision normally. I would have had to come back to lagos to do the procedure. |

Guess how much we paid for circumcision in Nigeria...One thousand, seven hundred Naira... LOL at Jewish circumcision. Nigerian circumcision is the best! Doubt me? ask Kenyan and South African women. omogedudu99: 1 Like |

This thread has really helped me in preparing for my journey. I had plans to go to new Jersey for my first last year but been someone who had ttc for close to 5yrs I was advised to stay back in naija and deliver my baby so people won't say maybe I went to adopt my baby. Fast forward to this year God chose to bless me again so I decided to travel to US this time around. I already got my visa early this year for visiting purpose and me and my family had used it. I got pregnant while in US and didn't even realise until I was almost 12weeks gone. I read thru the thread to catch up on the new posts cos I stopped reading when I changed my plan for my first baby. I contacted one member of the thread that I realised we will be due around same time. We made plans together and left naija on the 3rd with BA and our flight was a smooth one. We requested for wheel chair and it helped cos it made us not to be on the long queue POE : CBP: why are you here Me: childbirth and shopping He took my fingerprints CBP: how long will u staying Me: 12weeks CBP: you want to leave your husband for 12weeks all because of shopping I guess he didn't hear the childbirth part so I had to repeat myself. CBP: do you have anybody in Houston Me: no CBP: where will you be staying Me: I already booked an apartment with soulcare concierge CBP: how much do u have on you Me: 5,000 CBP: you will have to go to secondary inspection Second part shortly 5 Likes |

I was wheeled to secondary inspection with the other nairaland member and waited for some mins before I was called CBP: why are you here Me: childbirth and shopping CBP: shopping? Me: yes for the baby CBP: Ok that makes sense CBP: why are you on wheel chair Me: cos the trip was a long one and I guess I will be tired by the time I land in US CBP: ma'am you have to be on your feet and get moving so the baby can move around CBP: how much do you have Me: 5k in cash and the rest money is on my naija card CBP: can I see that I brought it out but he didn't collect it CBP: do you have anything to show for the one on your card Me: yes my statement of acct He collected it and checked CBP: do have a doc and hospital yet Me: yes, gave him dr fagbohun's correspondence and he checked it and wrote down his name and that of hospital CBP: where will u staying Me: soulcare concierge CBP: where is that Me: gave him the receipt I got for my deposit and the letter containing I will be staying there for the duration of my stay and their addy He checked said and ok. Make sure you pay all your bill. I told him I understand that and he said good. He now said jokingly again madam you have to be on your feet and let this baby kick and move around. I smiled and said ok,thank you. Na so we go pick our bags o cos the other nairalander finished some mins before me. Dogs sniff the loads but our bags were not checked even though I thicker yes for foodstuffs and animal product (cheese). God's favour all the way. Thank you all for your contributions that helped me in preparing well. And thanks to favouredgal cause you gingered me to make plans to go to US for childbirth for my first born on your first trip to give birth to your daughter. 14 Likes |

AmatuRahman: Congrats dear. But something struck me in your post where you talked about why you didn't give birth to your first baby in the US. The truth is that those who would talk will still talk, even after giving birth here in Nigeria. The earlier we stopped caring about what people say , the better for us. Wishing you the very best in this journey. 12 Likes |

In the struggle for PTA, Union Bank has been directed by CBN to stop selling dollar today. In their only branch that sells in Abuja, one Narialander was lucky to buy 8k according to my DW who rushed to buy but couldnt get. The 8k Mummy did ask my wife if she was from NL but trust my frustrated wife response. Anyways, now its black market where they selling 235 for PTA and they wont have until wednesday. |

firsttymum: I pumped wella. At least 2ce on each leg of my flight. I set up my pump, and threw on a scarf to cover myself. If you can, make a special request for plenty of water (at least 300mls for every hour you will be in the air, I am told) on the flight to ensure your flow, as combination of bfeeding and flying can leave you dehydrated. |
