Re: Behind Her Veil by Nobody: 2:47pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
By past four their plane landed in Kano. They took a taxi from Murtala Muhammed airport straight t.Alhaji Najib’s house. Alhaji Najib and his family were already expecting them. They were waiting outside, and so was Kazim. He was wearing their native attire ‘baba riga’ sewed with great style and beside him was a lady who without any introduction one could tell they were a couple. The three families hugged and exchanged pleasantries. Anty and Alhaji Najib couldn’t hold back their tears when Sadiq embraced them. When Sadiq had being freed, he exited the house with Humaira, Kazim and Asmau, heading to Zeenat’s house. The house was full with a number of people. It was very obvious to the eyes that an event was taking place. “Is today the wedding?” Sadiq asked. “No. Today is the ‘Kaamu’. It’s when the bride would go and hide and the females would go and look for her. I think the first lady to find her gets a price. It’s a kind of game before the wedding which is tomorrow.” explained Humaira. “And seems they’ve started already.” said Kazim. “I have to see her!” Sadiq couldn’t wait. “But only females are allowed to search for the bride!” Humaira words fell into deaf ears. Sadiq walked into the house and followed the group of ladies that went in search of the bride. There were murmurs from some of the ladies that were searching for the bride, but Sadiq didn’t pay attention to them. He just pushed his way past them till he opened a door that led to the basement and closed the door behind him. The basement was bright and spotless. Sitting on a chair backing him was a lady. From behind Sadiq could tell she was probably wearing a veil. She hadn’t noticed that a second person was in the room with her. “Zeenat!” he called and startled she almost jumped. “You terrified me! What are you doing here?” she asked, closing the journal she was writing on and pulling the veil down to conceal her face. “I heard who ever find the bride gets a price. Can that price be the bride?” he asked with searching eyes. Surprised she asked. “Excuse me, do I know you?” “Yes.” he replied. Not sure of how to introduce himself to her. He didn’t want to shock her with the news. “So? Who are you?” she gestured with both hands, revealing the beautiful henna drawn on them. “I knew this is where you would be. I remember you once told me that whenever you are having a horrible day and want to escape from the world you come down here.” he said to her. Her eyes were wide open. But she couldn’t say anything yet. She couldn’t, the only person in the world that she told that to was Sadiq. “It’s me Sadiq.” he revealed and his plan to not shock her failed. She freaked out and made for the door, threatening to alert everyone that he was a psycho. Before she could hold the door knob, Sadiq recited and she stood there, palm on the knob, stunned to death. My fairy princess, My eyes may not be blue, but my words are true. I place my palm on your chest; i feel your battle within. You’ve risked everything, just for one thing. Love, love is not an understatement; love is me being here for you. My love wings are spread apart; i promise we will never fall apart. Our love will be bonded by the moon, and we will forever twinkle like the stars. And like fire flies, together we will make a bright light…………… “Stop! Stop! Just stop!” she yelled at him, tears on her eyes. “Why are you doing this? Why are you haunting me?” Sadiq attempted coming closer to her. “Don’t! Don’t come any closer!’ she yelled at him. “Okay calm down Zeenat. It’s really me.” he said to her calmly. “Maybe I can convince you with this; remember how we use to end our chat every night? How we would say dream of goats and chicken? Remember that night we video chat and I said I dint know you had pink lips?” Zeenat was sitting by the door now, on the floor. He really was saying things that only Sadiq could know, but he didn’t look like Sadiq, not a bit. “If you are really Sadiq then you would know what I am about to ask you.” she said. “Okay. Go on.” he replied. “When my parents died, Sadiq was there to console me and I said something to him something…..” Sadiq cut her short. “You told me that I am the greatest thing that has ever happened to you!” he replied her even before she completed her question. Before any more words could be exchanged, the door opened and standing there was Humaira. She closed the door behind her. “Thank God you are here.” Zeenat to Humaira. “he is claiming that he is….” “Yes. He is Sadiq!” Humaira assured her. Zeenat gaze fell on Sadiq. She just didn’t get what was happening. “I will explain it to you.” said Humaira. And she narrated everything to her. She wasn’t done when Zeenat raced towards Sadiq, holding her cloth up from tripping on it and embracing Sadiq. “I thought I lost you forever!” she mumbled it in- between sobs. Seconds later the door opened, revealing Abu- Bakr; Zeenat’s fiancée. “What’s going on here?” he asked with a stern look. “It’s not what you think.” Humaira replied “Who is he and what is he doing with my fiancée?” he was really mad now. Zeenat was silent. Sadiq was too. Humaira explained to him. “Zeenat I thought we were doing fine.” said Abu- Bakr. “Wallahi banajin tsakanina da kai zai yuwu. (Wallahi I don't think this can really work out between us)" Zeenat said to him. “Me? Me ya soye? (Why? What changed?)” he asked her, walking towards her while Sadiq stood there. “Tabbas...babu abun daya soye...koda nayi kokarin aura maka xuciyata kasawa nayi. Haryanxu rabin jikina na tara da shi. (Exactly...nothing changed. Even when I tried to feel something for you I couldn't. Part of me was still with him)” she said, glancing at Sadiq. “Shine Wanda kika fadamun? Na farko? (Is he the one you told me about? The first one?)" he asked her, remembering that she once told him about her first love, Sadiq. " Eh. Ko sanda na bayar ya rasu xuciyata tana tare dashi, ballantana yanzu Dana San yana raye. (Yes. Even when I thought he was dead a great part of me wanted him, not to talk of now that I know he is alive)." she said, her veil hiding her face. “Amma gobe xamuyi Aure. (But we are getting married tomorrow).” “Nasani. Kai kana sha'awar auran maccan da take son wani Wanda ba kai ba? (I know. But do you really want to marry someone who is completely in love with someone else?) she asked him. Abu-Bakr took off his cap and walked towards Sadiq. “For over two years I have been trying to get her to talk to me, but she rarely does. But today, because she has found the reason to live happily again she talked to me more than she had for the last two years.” Abu-Bakr said to Sadiq and placed his cap on Sadiq’s head. “I heard you were the first to find her here and the first person that finds the bride gets a price.” he said and walked towards Zeenat. “I really wish that your heart would beat for me same way its beating for him but I guess I came into your life late.” he glanced at Sadiq and back at Zeenat. Walking towards the exit door he said to them. “May God bless your union!” He knew even though he forced the marriage on her, he knew her love will never be for him, he knew a great part of her will always be longing for someone else and that would be a very terrible way to start a marriage. Sadiq was dressed in white native attire; beside him was the most beautiful girl in his world. Zeenat held his hand tight as they knelt down and received the blessings of their parents and families. Each journey has a beginning, a reason to exist. And like every good and bad thing, they must always come to an end. Vanessa walked down the aisle with Kross and a year later they welcomed a baby girl. Jennifer was soaring higher in her career, Eze who after going round the world came back and proposed to Jennifer, she of course didn’t say yes to him till the next day. Humaira got a suitor but wasn’t ready to commit to anything yet, Asmau was doing well academically and following Vanessa in her foot steps by opening her own clothing line inspired by her experience and emotions. So I never believed in ghost, magic or anything super natural, I didn’t think it was possible for anything beautiful to exist, I didn’t think it was possible to find both love and trust in one place until the day I met Zeenat! 23 Likes 6 Shares |

Sometimes destiny cannot be completely controlled or changed. Sometimes it just has to happen and sometimes it can be entirely avoided. But most times some things are just meant to happen to pave way for greater or lesser things. Sometimes we want what is not good for us... and despise what is good for us only because we really can't see the future to know exactly what will benefit us...and that is why....although no matter how prayerful you may be...a certain calamity may befall you, but then it doesn't signal d end of you, it’s just a calamity that would open doors to better things that wouldn’t have come if you were in your comfort zone. Afflictions are blessings in disguise, sometimes. Mattkent thanks for replying my massage in the literature, one love. Why not listen to T I T I on inspiration fm every Friday, she can help you with the publish of thee novel.and I think I will tweet her on dis, loving you more once again 2 Likes |
