From your explanation, I was meant to understand that you need 3 things. 1. UPS (without battery) 2. Smart charger & 3. External Battery But my confusion is how to connect this 3 things together to achieve a purpose. Is it that you will connect the battery taminals to the UPS and the smart charger at once and plug both UPS and smart charger to electricity (NEPA) or you will connect the battery only to the smart charger to charge when there is NEPA light, and (disconnect from the smart charger when there is power failure or when NEPA takes the light) connect the battery to the UPS to convert the battery power to AC for your appliances to use? How do you integrate the smart charger into this system? (Pardon me for asking this silly question, its for clarification purposes) @ceejay80s 1 Like |

Please Note: i read posts of some of my fellow nairalander saying that a 650 ups might overheat when used for more than 8hrs, well its not true, i have done my home work and i am telling u dat a ups can stay for more than 24hrs.. E.g: my boss stays in ibafo and resumes 8am, his desktop ups is turned on arounad 8am and he goes home by 10pm because of traffic, lets calculate, a ups that was turned on at 8am and turned off at 10pm, why e no overheat and blowup? If i dont have anywhere to go to on satureay, mine is always turned on 5am and turned off 10pm or 11pm. Dont get me wrong, nepa fit take light at 10am, then bring back by 2pm and take it again by 5pm and bring back by 9pm. These take & bring light at every 3hrs charges the battery and the ups is always on at that time. From 5am-10pm or 11pm is how many hrs that my ups has been on. 17hrs !! Hope u all understand 3 Likes |

ceejay80s: What you said might be true But the fan thing is necessary to keep the system cool For security reasons not to burn the internal component of your ups and also to prevent fire out burn. I've never seen an inverter that doesn't have internal cooling fan Even the 20amp charger u r using has a fan inside I deal on inverters so I can tell u that There are transformers and hot transistors in those devices that needs cooling if loaded and used for long period of time. U can also make more enquiries online about using ups as inverter they also advised in the same issue |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by bishop4life(m): 9:43am On Dec 10, 2015 |
martinz1: You have a point. But mind you that most appliance makers put all that into consideration. As long as you don't overload your ups the components won't over heat and also won't get burnt. It's just like some local djs using fan to cool their amps, but most gud djs go for good power amps and so don't need the fan. So before you go on your project run a check on your intended power consumption and get the right appliance for the job. You won't have reason to complain later. 1 Like |

martinz1:very true, but that cant be a problem, my mini audio amplifyer keeps over heating and always burns the sound ic, all i did was go to oshodi and bought a 12v small fan ,connected it to one big capacitor inside, i glued the small fan insid the amplifyer and covered ane screwed it. If i put on the audio amplifyer ane the fan start spinning and cooling the ic and transformer, u can do same if feel ur ups will overheat, just go to oshodi, get a sizable fan that will sit inside ur ups comfortably, conect the fan to the big capacitor and face the fan directly at the ups transformer , if u cant do it, look for any electrician in oshodi market, dem plenty, dem no go charge u pass 200naira unless dem see say u be novice, buy the fan ur self first |

Bosc: D set up is like charging ur fone with a desktop charger.Connect d smart charger's terminals to d ba3,link out d ups terminals to d ba3 too.I suggest u get an extension socket to b plugged at d back of d ups.Connect d charger to NEPA but d issue is how to know wen d ba3 is fully charged unless d smart charger is smart enough to possess ba3 full indicator,if not please get a mini volt meter sold at 400 naira to read d ba3's voltage section by turning d nob to left at 20v.During charging check at intervals till it full charge at 15V.Howeve,make sure u don't use d ba3 till death.Discharge it up to a safe level say 10.5V or 11V,den ccharge again.Since there is an external charger already I think u don't need to plug d ups to NEPA.DONT OVER LOAD D BA3 WITH PLENTY APPLIANCES.Now u can plug ur TV etc to d extension socket. 5 Likes |

dollarnaira:check page 1,2 & 3 his number is there he has 10amp charger= 5k 20amp charger = 7k 30amp charger = 10k all of these charger will work for 100ah battery the 10amp charger can charge upto 100ah or 150ah. The 20amp can charge up to 400ah. 30amp charge up to 600ah or 800ah dont get me wrong, even the 10amp can charge 800ah batteries but we are looking at timing ,if for instance a 30amp charger charges a 400ah battery fully in 4-5hrs, a 10amp charger will charge the same 400ah battery full in 7-10hr so u consider the time frame nepa dey give u light in a day |
