To those that wish to relocate to Lagos Sunnypar: What Is The Lowest Income A Person Living In Lagos Should Earn To Live Decently?
Answered by Sagamite(m): 12:16pm On Sep 09
Quetion by; kkoncept: So I saw this this morning and it got me thinking, what is your definition of a decent life in Lagos? What is the lowest income you can take if you are paying your rent and feeding yourself and also have plans.
Based on your question, one can conclude you are asking about a single person, not a person with a family.
You will need to calculate it based on the cost of essential and modern everyday needs.
House rent, bills, connectivity, transportation, socialising, clothing, grocery, hand-outs and savings.
For House rent, most people would want to live in a decent middle-class area. So forget most of the places on this list:
https://www.nairaland.com/2526066/hierarchy-top-10-areas-live
So to live decently, you will be looking at areas like Iwaya, Shomolu, Festac, Ajah etc for a 1-2 bedroom flat to rent so as to get easy access to where the jobs are.
That should set you back around N60K per month
For Bills, one will assume you have no generator, so you will just be paying Nepa bills and maybe thrash-collection bills, also you will be buying gas for cooking. You are not staying in any expensive estate, so no service charges. Lets assume the only health challenges you have is the rare case of headache and malaria once in a while.
Lets say, this should set you back about N5K per month.
For Connectivity, a mobile and internet access is essential to most lives nowadays. Maybe you have to have at least 3K for calls and another N2K for MB.
Lets say, this should set you back about N5K per month.
For Transportation, I don't have a jack arsse clue how much danfo bus rides cost in Lagos nowadays. Let me just assume a short journey is N50. So you have to get to work and also get around to buy stuff or visit friends and family. I will be assuming 3 to 4 buses to get to work for 21 days a month and add another 20% for other journeys. Nothing like going to London or Dubai for holiday for someone at a decent life o.
Lets say, this should set you back about N5.25K per month.
For Socialising, the time you meet up with your friends to have beer and peppersoup or when you decide to take that secretary you see on the way to work with big yansh (like Happiness87) out so you can have a chance to hit it. Since you said decent life, forget those LASU and Unilag hot girls because they cost yafun yafun to maintain.
Budget about N20K per month for this. You no dey pop champagne.
For Clothing, you need to by clothes and shoes for work and events. Avoid Aso Ebis. Waste of money.
Lets say, this should set you back about N8K per month.
For Groceries, you go chop now? You go dey cook for house and also taking some food to work.
Lets say, this should set you back about N10K per month.
For Hand-outs, this is Naija. You must to have someone coming to meet you to "assist him/her" if you have a job. You also have to give something-something to parents, grand-parents and other family.
Lets say, this should set you back about N10K per month.
Then if you want to plan for the future and other contingencies while still living a decent life, you need to save about 20% of your take home pay just in case.
So your spend should be 80% of your take home pay.
So far, we have calculated you should be spending about N105K per month. So you need to be saving about N26K a month.
So if you are a single person living a decent life in Lagos, you would be living in a middle-class area, socialising moderately, have no car or generator and have savings for your future & the unexpected. That person would need about N130K per month| N1.56m per annum take-home pay (i.e. after all taxes and deductions).
From my understanding of Nigerian taxation, that means you should have a job paying at least N2m a year to get that take-home pay.
That should tell you not many people live a decent life in Naija. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Ugo" tinz, ie maths, English, quantitativ+verbal, and current affairs. 2. Micro teaching: (a) plz be VERY audible, Don't shout but be loud. (b) be assertive. Don't 4m 'gentlemen' o! (c) choose a topic u are VERY VERY good in; remember u've got only ONE CHANCE to impress dm. (d) No blabbing/stammering. This shows timidity/incompetence. (e) Liven up the class; try 2 make them laugh whenever possible. Add some humor 2 ur lecture. (f) Feedback: Ensure u ask ur audience (which could be students or teachers or both) questions. (g) mobility: move round d class once in a while, this shows/portrays "class control" and confidence. Don't just stay rooted 2 d board. (h) look into the eyez of ur students. This also portrays confidence. Don't avoid their gaze. You can focus on a few students out of d lot that u are comfortable looking at. (i) ALWAYS put on a smile, irrespective of how tense u are; ds portrays confidence (j) peradventure a question is thrown @ u which u VIRTUALLY KNOW NOTHING about, instead of babbling/ spewing out thrash, smile and with FULL confidence, tell them u don't have it RIGHT NOW @ the tip of ur hands. In order words, be honest about it. By so doing, u score a 'high' on d honesty/sincerity scale. On d other hand, if u bin get 'shikini' idea about d question, say 5%, my sister, with splendour, abeg magnify that 5% answer like say u Sabi efrytin! In other words, "ideas lo matter"! 3. Oral interview: (a) AGAIN, ALWAYS PUT ON A SMILE. (b) be free 2 ask dm questions too. This shows them dt u are in control of ur "environment" and MOST ESP, it tells them u are NOT DESPERATE 4 the job-EVEN IF U FASTED 7 DAYS 4 IT!!! (c)Transfer/Sign-on fee: Don't sell urself cheap yet don't drive urself off d transfer market with ur wage demands. With d exception of some few cases, the population of a school, their school fees, d location of d school or/and d "reservoir" (ie capital base) of d proprietor of such school is a pointer 2 d SOF such school can offer u! So do a research on ds or better still a mental calculation/visual observation of th......... 1 Like 1 Share |

IDrock: Concept Educational System is in need of suitable candidates for these positions: Home Economics Teacher Computer Teacher Geography Teacher C.R.K/I.R.K Teacher Account Teacher Economics Teacher Government Teacher Physics/Maths Teacher Chemistry/Biology Teacher English Language/Literature Teacher
Apply in person to: 50A, Willie Omiyi street Aguda Surulere Lagos My ppl talk say: tenant wey say hin LANDLORD build "yeye/ordinary one room apartment", make e show us hin own! Seriously speaking, 35k-40k is the NET salary in ds case. How? 1. ACCOMMODATION: The school provides accommodation. This means at least 5k rent will be saved by her. =======> (1) 2. FEEDING: The school also provides feeding. Let's assume our Lady spends #200 per meal, times 3=#600 per day; times 30=18k per month feeding expenses saved! ========> (2) 3. TRANSPORT: since our Lady stays WITHIN, there4 no t-fare hassles. So, let's say transport go gulp #200, times 22 days (ie excluding sats and suns), gives approx 5k. So d sch has saved our Lady 5k in t-fare=======> (3) 4. MEDICALZ/MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES: As an in-house teacher/mistress, our Lady gets 2 benefit all d "condiments" d students enjoy, which, under normal circumstances she would have had 2 pay for, eg medicals, toiletries, TV, kerosene, petrol, generator, etc . Let's put ds roughly at 10k========> (4) So,all in all, d sch has saved our Lady 18k+6k+5k+10k=39k at d least! Add that 2 d 35-40k NET INCOME, and that gives a GROSS of 74-79k! So in actual fact, her gross pay is 74k AT THE LEAST! What ds means is dt at d end of d month, she smiles straight 2 d bank with at least 35k UNTOUCHED! Even some of d big schools in lekki 4 instance pay within ds range (ie 70k and above range, WITHOUT PROVIDING transport, feeding, medicalz etc) and they feel they are breaking d bank(sic) 4 u! I've said it times without number, let's look at d BIGGER PICTURE. Don't be carried away by d GROSS INCOME , look at d NET INCOME! Now, as an in-house teacher, she has d privilege of dipping her hands in d "cookie jar". How? She has unfettered access 2 d students and as such can make quick/legitimate bucks via private tutorials. Parents surely WILL PATRONIZE HER! So, let's say she has 10 students (i blv she can have more) @ 5k/ per student (at d least), that translates to 50k per month. Definitely, she can even make this 50k from a single "money-bagged" parent, but let's say she totally makes 50k to be modest, add that to 35-40k and u get 85k NET INCOME or (74+50)=124k as GROSS INCOME! What abt d "connections" from parents? Our lady has made a very good decision by my reckoning. I've said it b4 and I'll say it again, b4 u BRAG/give dt testimony in church/mosque over dt "100k" (GROSS PAY) job, first calculate and remove ALL d expenses involved. Whatever is left of d "100k" is ur ACTUAL/NET PAY! Errrrrm........, whatever is left..........., can it take u home? **scratches head** 4 Likes |

GoldenDr: This is to inform thread member about the outburst by talk2yommex2000's friend about Manie's school.
We have painstakingly investigated the matter because We heard from talk2yommex2000 via mail and Maine via this thread and here is "our" findings:
1. Both parties gave a detailed description about what really transpired, which tallied; 2. Based on investigation, the principal colonised everything in the school, painted the former Chairman (Baba) in bad light; 3. There was some illegality going on which Baba knew nothing about; 4. He turned the school into a mini empire of some sort, conspired, instigated teachers' against themselves and Baba; 5. Teacher that taught from 2012 down would not say good things about the school as a result of the Principal ineptitude, instigation, greed and diabolical means which I don't want to believe he(principal) used such means; 6. As a result of financial misappropriation by the Principal, the school was plunged into debt which the new Chairman has cleared; 7. Nobody would fold their arm and see someone or anybody throw heart hurting jabbs at their father and sit down and do nothing.
In the view of the above findings and the verdict from the Senate and WhatsApp Teachers' Association (WTA), Manie a former Vice Principal of the "family" with 8yrs, a business man, financial analyst and an investment guru is hereby discharged of all accusations level against him and his school.
Signed WTA. We have fought, laugh, about to party, when are we going to get married? All the single teachers identify yourself by sharing this post. |
