Lombardy has banned the burka
The new legislation in Lombardy, which will come into force in the New Year, marks the first time an Italian region has explicitly outlawed Islamic face coverings. 

Current laws across Italy, dating back from the 1970s, already prohibit helmets, clothing or any other items that make identification difficult in public places. 

Simona Bordonali, head of security, civil protection and immigration in the populist region, said the “serious terror attacks” in recent months had forced them to tighten security measures. 

He added: “Whoever wants to enter a hospital in Lombardy must be recognisable and present themselves uncovered.. the burka [and the] niqab are therefore banned.”

It comes after the bloody November 13 atrocities in Paris, which saw people 130 people slaughtered by terrorists linked to the barbaric Islamic State. 

However the controversial decision has not been welcomed by all region officials. 

Justice Minister Andrea Orlando warned that it could appear to be “symbolic propaganda” as Italy already has a national law on face coverings. 

Mr Orlando added: “Right now the last thing we need is to wave symbols about and make propaganda - a domain in which the Islamist extremists are unbeatable.”

Leaders in other Italian regions said they would not be rushing to imitate Lombardy’s decision. 

Umbria’s President Catiusia Marini said authorities had already changed the way public services are run “so as to accommodate women that have a deliberate culture and religion to our own”.

Lombardy is the wealthiest region in Italy
Islam is the second largest religion, other than Catholicism, in Italy with around 1.2 Muslims in the country. 

The decision comes just a week after Venice band women from wearing the face veil in public museums.

Lawmakers in Germany’s biggest state Bavaria are also considering making the burka illegal in the whole country. 

Meanwhile, women wearing the burka in Switzerland face a £6,500 fine.

Their legislators could not even debate on an issue as important as birth control because of their islamic political ideology.

are you therefore saying that anyone visiting these countries would have the right to keep their burqas/niqab?! pls educate yourself on the issue so i dont have to do it for you.

these handful of hypocrite states preach freedom and liberty for all.... yet here they are telling women from a certain religious group that they cannot wear the dress of their choice. this is, btw, the national dress of women from Iran, Saudia Arabia, UAE, Yemen, Qatar, Kuweit etc.
these hypocrites states are quick to pride themselves on human rights, and looking down on any state that will fail in this aspect, but here they are making discriminatory laws that are in breach of the international human right act, which will affect AND discriminate against many of their citizens and other people visiting (from a certain religious group).

HUMAN RIGHT doesnt stop whenever THEY feel like it, it should be there for ALL, at ALL TIMES, regardless of the actions of a few bastard extremists out there.... the human right act stipulates that "everyone" should have freedom of speech, conscience, thought, beliefs, religion; the right to hold your own opinions and to express them freely without government interference; freedom to manifest your religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.

these European laws against burqa/niqab wearing are wrong however anyone wants to look at it... nobody can discriminate against the rights of a minority group, and call that JUSTICE. if what they really want is to identify the person wearing the burqa/niqab, then they should simply make a law that will have the wearer identify themselves in all public places (if needs be), et voila!

all the countries you mentioned above DONT pretend to be the police of this world on human rights related issues. how can these hypocrite states point fingers at other countries failing on human rights grounds, and then turn around and do EXACTLY the same thing, as soon as some mad extremists go on a killing spree?! so YES, i want freedom and liberty in all these hypocrite double standard states, thank you very much.
