Multiple award winning filmmaker, Steven Spielberg has taken an
interesting look at African cinema, known as Nollywood, which is
believed to be the world’s second largest ‘film’ producer. According to the 3-time Academy Award winner, Nollywood is characterised by weak storylines and actors who are only good for posters.

Spielberg who recently wrapped shooting for ‘Escape From Boko
Haram’ described filming in parts of Nigeria as a challenge, especially in finding the right supporting cast for the terrorism drama, set for release on February 31, 2016.

In an Interview with the Nollywood Reporter, Spielberg said he only familiarised himself with Nollywood during the 2-month shoot in Nigeria.

“My casting director spoke highly of some Nollywood stars and I was forced to watch a few of their movies to familiarise myself with them before we even did our casting for ‘Escape From Boko Haram’. I then noticed that most of the movies are badly written and directed, often leaving me confused. I liked the way
they tell their stories but even my grandchildren tell better stories”
“When finally it was time for casting, the actors came for auditions like they had the roles already – such utter arrogance. Genevieve Nnaji came 3 hours late, yet she was the one that our casting director felt should play wife of President Obasanjo. ” “…just one second with Frank Artus and I knew he wasn’t good for any role in the movie or any thinkable movie for that matter. We went through several of Nigeria’s leading actors and frankly none of them was good enough. We ended up using many unknown faces for the supporting roles. The only popular Nigerian in the movie would be Segun Arinze, because of the striking resemblance he has with President Obasanjo.”

‘Escape From Boko Haram’, tells the chilling story of corruption and power struggle behind the infamous terror group.
It stars Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Idris Elba.
The legendary filmmaker turned out to support his great friend George Lucas as the seventh Star Wars movie was finally unveiled to the world at a grandiose premiere in LA. The famed filmmaker, 68, was upstaged in the fashion stakes by longtime wife Kate Capshaw who wore an eclectic outfit that paired leather dungarees with a bolero jacket and a fedora hat.

Hahaha... even our own Miss Nnaji isn't even good enough... No wonder non of them have been able to break into Hollywood despite all their fame and shakara... How Shameful that only Segue Arinze could get a Role in a Movie set to be shot in Nigeria about Nigeria for the World..... SMH. I always knew Nollywood has Nothing to Offer.

The Nigerian entertainment industry as a whole is overrated. I wonder how ordinary chants could pass for music? The videos are really of low quality too.
