Siasia: We can surpass Beijing’s feat Siasia, a veteran of football tournaments of sorts, won a silver medal at the 2008 Games, and after earning the right to be at the 2016 Games in Brazil, the former Super Eagles striker stated that with hard work Nigeria can win the gold. “I was coach of Nigeria during the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, when we reached the final, and in 2016 we will aim to do more than reaching the final by winning the (gold) medal,” Siasia said. Nigeria won the men soccer gold at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta USA and came to repeating the feat in Beijing, China. But Lionel Messi and Angel d Maria combined to score the only goal of the match and handed Argentina the gold. Nigeria U-23 players gave a good account of themselves in that match, much to the appreciation of Argentina legend Diego Maradona. Meanwhile the Dutch coach who led Nigeria to the gold in Atlanta’96 Johannes Bonfrere has backed Siasia to do well in Rio 2016. “He has done well with the youth sides in the past and his experience will be vital for Nigeria in Brazil. “But there are a lot of things that will still come into play, like getting a good draw and preparing well for the competition. “If they are lucky and get things right, they can win it again.’’ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/siasia-we-can-surpass-beijings-feat/? |

Report states Victor Osimhen has flown to England to sign deal with Premier League club, one month after Tottenham reports The Nigerian youngster has been linked with Spurs. Last month saw Tottenham Hotspurheavily linked with the signature of young Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. It was reported by Spanish publication ASthat the deal was done and that Tottenham had secured the services of this precocious talent. It now appears that those reports were a little premature, with his agent insisting no deal was yet agreed, which will leave many a Spurs fan disappointed. Osimhen was the star at the recent FIFA Under-17 World Cup as his side won the competition. He scored a whopping 10 goals at the competition in just seven appearances - including against Mali in the final. He has now recently helped Nigeria to Under-23 African Nations Cup glory and is reportedly on his way to England to secure a Premier Leagues witch. Whilst it is not clear whether or not Tottenham is indeed his location but The Nation in Nigeria has reported that the teen left Senegal, where he was playing in the tournament, and headed to England to finalise his next club. Soon enough it will be clear whether he has indeed become a Tottenham player or if he has in fact joined another club. www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/12/17/report-states-victor-osimhen-has-flown-to-england-to-sign-deal-w/ 1 Like |

Bonfrere Jo tips Siasia for Olympics glory with Dream Team FORMER Nigeria coach Johannes Bonfrere say he believes Samson Siasia can lead the Dream Team VI to win the 2016 Olympics men’s football event. Siasia guided the Nigeria U23 team to win the 2015 Caf U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal which gave them an automatic spot to represent Africa at next year’s multisport event in Rio. The country failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London after crashing out in the group stage of the Africa U23 championship in Morocco. According to the Dutch who led the country to win the 1996 Olympics football gold medal in the United States of America, Siasia has what it takes to lead the team to the 2016 Olympics men’s football gold in Brazil if they have good preparation. In Bonfrere’s words: “To be honest, I don’t know much about the team, but I believe Samson can help them win the gold medal in Rio.” “He has done well with the youth sides in the past and his experience will be vital for Nigeria in Brazil.” sunnewsonline.com/new/bonfrere-jo-tips-siasia-for-olympics-glory-with-dream-team/ 1 Like |

AF Nigeria 2015 U23 Africa Cup of Nations Nigeria U23 Siasia hints on Ighalo, Ahmed Musa for Rio Olympics Coach Samson Siasia has hinted he is looking at the possibility of getting Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa and striker Odion Ighalo to feature at next year’s Rio Olympics as overage players. The Olympics allow for three players outside the eligible age of 23 years to star at the tournament proper. Chelsea star Mikel Obi has already declared his interest to play in Rio. Siasia said he hopes to draft players who are playing regularly for their European clubs for the Olympics. “I’m still undecided on the areas that the overage players would be needed, but I’m happy that the likes of Ighalo (Odion), (Ahmed) Musa, are in top form now and I hope they will sustain it until the Olympics,” the Nigeria U23 coach said on a television programme. The Olympics will be staged in August 2016. africanfootball.com/news/594535/Siasia-hints-on-Ighalo-Ahmed-Musa-for-Rio-Olympics 1 Like |

Nigeria U23 ace Bature Yaro by Samm Audu The Super Eagles, who are preparing for next month’s CHAN in Rwanda, have granted U23 stars Usman Mohammed and Bature Yaro a week’s break after their return from the U23 AFCON in Senegal. “We have given Usman (Mohammed) and Bature Yaro one-week break after which they will rejoin us,” said Eagles assistant coach Salisu Yusuf, who is holding forte for ailing coach Sunday Oliseh. League hotshot Gbolahan Salami and Warri Wolves defender Solomon Kwambe were also given compassionate leave by the team to account for their absence. Yusuf further revealed they plan to have a look at a number of U23 players who were not called up for the training camp after what they showed at the U23 AFCON in Senegal. “We saw some players in the U23s and we plan to call them after a meeting with the head coach,” he said. africanfootball.com/news/594230/CHAN-Eagles-give-U23-stars-week-s-break 1 Like |

' I hope they sustain it till the Olympics' That's what I am talking about. The likes of Saviour, Awoniyi, and the bench warmers might not make it to the Olympics if they don't buckle up and fight for a starting shirt in their clubs. |

joseph1013: I will feel disappointed if Siasia does not address the weak points we saw in that tournament. If he plans to call Ighalo and Musa, I beg Coach Siasia not to call Nacho. Let him cintinue his training than benching at the Olympics. The main weak points are faulty passes and poor defence. That is where he needs to work on. Or he wants another score first half, concede second half scenario. |

Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:33am On Dec 18, 2015 |
One of my problems with the Nigerian coaches is that they never help in building. Look at Oliseh and Nacho's case. He was fighting to get a chance to play in the senior squad and Oliseh was not ready to give him a chance. As soon as he put the Man of The match performance, Coach Oliseh called him. Our players have a tough task proving themselves in Europe. When will our coaches have a plan to help push our players. Now Isaac Success needs exposure to shine. Yet, no national team call up. If he was playing for the senior side, other clubs might look at him. That is why when I hear the bench warmer talk it irritates me. |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by terzurum5(m): 7:37am On Dec 18, 2015 |
joseph1013: You dey my mind Joe. Coach Samson Siasia needs to first fortify the defence and the midfield, before thinking of the forwards. We have talented young strikers within this U-23 age range. Am not against the inclusion of Either Ighalo or Musa. But on a very good day, any good opponent can cut supply to these top strikers and we may loose, if our defense line and midfield is not functional. |

forgiveness: Awoniyi had not signed any contract after the U-20 AYC but still qualified Nigeria for the AAGs. Why Ajayi who was a starter in his Club was just missing goals, as if he was an academy player. I feel its too early to tag them bench warmers, knowing fully well that they just signed contracts with their new Clubs. So you see they just need some time to blend and before you know, they will begin to shine for their Clubs. Look at Musa Muhammed for instance. It took him several months to break into the squad and make his official league match debut, but when he did, he produced a super performance that earned him Man of the Match in the Turkish league. Oga Forgiveness, Rio 2016 is still 7 to 8 months to go, give these guys a chance and time. They will surely surprise you. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: OK, let us believe that you are rating Crystal Palace based on their current form and position in the Premier League because we all know they came back from oblivion(Championship) 2 years ago, which rating suppose to be so. Please, let it be known that Solanke put in a man of the match performance against the current Champions/holders, and the runner up of KNBV Cup. They're one of the teams that are currently contending for the Eredivisie title. In fact, one of them currently played in UEFA Europa league group stage. These teams are Groningen(current KNBV Cup Champions and UEFA Europa league candidate) and PEC Zwolle. Note: Groningen trashed Ajax 4:0 on their to be crowned Champions. |

TheGoodJoe: Haha! What is wrong about what Siasia said? I think that it is the best words to say to those(bench warmers) expecting to get automatic place in the Olympics squad at the expense of players who are playing regularly for their teams. The defence(every department), the attack(Wingers and strikers) and the Midfield. This is based on the current team that won the under 23 African youth championship. Therefore, I think we need an over aged striker and an experienced midfielder. And they must be inform prior to the Olympics. |

Siasia Rejects Qatar Friendly For U-23 Eagles, Plans Early Rio Preparation Nigeria U-23s coach Samson Siasia has told the Nigeria Football Federation that he will begin preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in February next year as the list of players that will make the first phase camping will be sent to the football house in January, Completesportsnigeria.com can report. The former Nantes FC of France striker who led Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles to win the recently concluded CAF U-23 African Cup of Nations in Senegal has also rejected a proposal to play a friendly match in January, saying he needed time to rest after the efforts he put in to win the U-23 AFCON. According to a very reliable source in the football house, the federation wanted Siasia to play a friendly match with Qatar in January but he rejected the proposal and maintained that he can only open his camp in February. “Siasia said he needed time to rest after the U-23 AFCON in Senegal and that has made it difficult for the team to play a friendly match with Qatar in January,” the source revealed to Completesportsnigeria.com. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has lined up a series of friendly matches for the team ahead of the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil. Siasia was close to winning the Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing but lost to 1-0 to Argentina in the final to settle down for a silver medal. http://www.completesportsnigeria.com/siasia-rejects-qatar-friendly-for-u-23-eagles-plans-early-rio-preparation/? |

TheGoodJoe: Actually, I would have preferred Obafemi-martins over Ighalo because Martins is more experienced and has played at the highest level. I hope he will go on loan to the Premiership as speculated to prove doubters wrong. However, I will gladly go with Ighalo if chosen but the guy too dey miss goals ooo. Nacho will definitely play in the Olympics but not as the point man. He will play behind the striker and he will have to contend with Etebor (based on his current form). |

TheGoodJoe: Bros, we have some players playing regularly in UEFA leagues, and they are able to do that with aplomb without the help of any national team e.g Imoh-ezekiel, Michael Olaitan, Anthony Ujah, Odion-jude-ighalo etcetera. So, it is not an excuse, they should prove themselves. Besides, the National team should not be the place for building players. it should be the place meant for players that have proven themselves and are still proving themselves which has always been the norm practiced all over the world but that is with the exception of our beloved Country. As you can see, almost all these players mentioned have not really been given the chance to prove themselves in the National team. This is what breeds mediocre in the National team. Lastly, Where are all those players keshi tried earnestly to build by giving them the chance to play in the National team hoping they become super stars? None. Or is/are there any you know? Please, let me know. Shallom. |

forgiveness: The coach can give those he wants to give a chance and also help build players that do not get good chances overseas. If Wenger did not sign Kanu after the Surgery and helped him rebuild his career, he would have gone down the drain. My problem is, are we going to let our promising talents go down the drain if foreign clubs do not support them? |
