I remember all those fables and scary stories we used to tell ourselves those days in secondary school....
Everyone would become so scared and one's head would start sensing some sort of vibration / swelling.

This figure is very similar to the deity in Fulani cosmogony, Kumen (who can take the shape of a child or a bearded dwarf). He's seen as a provider of wealth (gold and knowledge) because if he gives or lend you his calabash, you will find gold in it everyday you wake up.
