Nairapeople: And this ladies and gentlemen is the reason why Nigerian's need to understand and accept taxation. Taxation is not just a means of generating revenue, it is also a means to curb corruption and excesses. During election campaigns In normal societies, a candidate would itemize his plans for the country and the first question would be "how are you going to fund your plans?". He/she would be prepared and lay out plans based on revenue generated from taxes. NOT OIL. In Nigeria, plans are based on the HOPE that the price of oil will be HIGH enough to fund all developmental projects. Most people don't know that America limits their oil exploration to the bearest minimum. Apart from their environmental concerns, they don't depend on oil for generating revenue. 80 percent of their budget depends on taxation. Nigerians need to think about this. America has oil, they could get more, but they prefer to use taxation as a stable means of generating revenue. Why is that? For most Nigerian's who are confused as to why other NORMAL societies pay tax. I will attempt to break it down for you. You are born, have access to quality education, graduate and land a perfect job. You buy a house, car, and get married. You go to bed at night and sleep comfortably with the knowledge that you can count on the police being there for you if you need them. You are almost sure of tomorrow. This is why you pay tax. You pay to get all these things and you pay to maintain them. Even if you don't live in America as an American or resident, you still have to file a tax return. Why? Because the American system rightly wants you to pay for the opportunity it creates for you to have a "CHOICE" of prospering in another country. I know some Nigerians will say that the country is too corrupt to maintain a quality taxation system. Well, they are wrong. Taxation helps to curb corruption and excesses. When you file your returns, if there is a discrepancy in your earned income and your style of living, the IRS will come after you with everything they have. Taxation exposes how you truly live. You can't hide from it. Linda is a bonafide idiot. Showing off like that on social media. Pleas come and do that shiit over here. If you do, expect an IRS audit the next day. Ask 50 cent. Nigerians need to change their phucked up mentality and understand this. 11 Likes 3 Shares |

AyeeIdris:The person you quoted and you yourself probably don't own house anywhere because if you do, you will know that, there is something called LAND USE CHARGE: which is tax payable annually on all land properties set at percentage of declared value of the property involved in Lagos state and elsewhere! Charge for C/O is not same as LUC and the issue here is her refusing to pay LUC on her property which is calculated on the declared #600 million worth ( #30million) Hope you understand now and stop dragging ethnic lingo into the matter! 2 Likes |

If she has been evading tax then she is not wise. Paying tax cannot make anyone poor. It is not a major setback at all except when you allow it to accumulate over the years. Perhaps there is no accountant on her firm to help her with her books but that is not an excuse. When her sister flaunted her wealth, I knew she was in for some scrutiny. LIRS will win if she allows them to drag her to court. 5 Likes |

This is because their taxes are usually deducted from source and if you consider the fact that these workers only earn a fraction of what she earns do you think it is fair for others to provide the infrastructure that she enjoys? 5 Likes 1 Share |

Viktor1983: There are laws on Income Tax. Whether she operates a portfolio biz or conduct her biz on the air, high sea, cyber or even coven does not matter. As far as a fair assessment of her income can be made she is to pay tax. Worst case scenario, she will be assessed on deemed income. Shikena 6 Likes |

kettykings: And you feel you have said something, it's demoralizing to see people think like you do. You grow fat with stories that the govt.does not care about your tribe et al. How much have you sat down to think about who is responsible for the growth of your region? You look at lagos and envy lagos as if lagos is the only state in the south west. Lagos got here because it's leaders decided to take the most advantage of what they have. Look at Ogun state, by mere proximity to lagos, Ogun state is fast becoming the hub of industries and manufacturers. Ekiti which should be be bevy of food exporters lies in a shadow of itself. I was shocked to learn the governor was uprooting cocoa farms for am airport!! What a sacrilege! The East is blessed with so many innovators. Look at Innoson motors, how many transporters are using his buses, how many governors in their regimes have banned purchase of foreign vehicles to advertise their son of the soil produce. How many vehicles driving on your rich red soils reveal the tag of Innoson motors on their bonnets. How many of your brothers in lagos sell abakaliki rice and package it like mama gold and all that. And still that rice is healthier than the nonsense the Indians flood our market with. You fail to hold your leaders accountable for not 'fighting' for you @ abuja and you thibk when you have biafra things will change. Coscharis is building a FORD assembly plant in lagos, another of your 'brothers' is building a Toyota plant in lagos too. And you want this industrialists to close shop for you in the name of biafra and blind tribalism , wake up. When you feed on the lies they tell you that government does not allocate money to you because they don't 'like' you. If you don't know, there is no ethnicity when it comes to sharing money up there, they are one in unity. It's when it time for it to reach the common man that ethnicity and religion comes up. Ask your leaders why they cannot push for the ports in the East to be more functional. How come no government has made the roads in Aba, an industrial hub itself, motorable? Importers from Ghana and environs should be running after us by virtue of the goods produced there yet, your brothers cargo the goods through cotonou to bring back to lagos so they are perceived as imported. Buhari or Ambode will not change your fortunes, you and your leaders will whether in Biafra or nigeria or heaven. On the day of reckoning, you're on your own. Your tribalistic way of perception keeps only you and yours back. 9 Likes 3 Shares |
