The house of reps does not have the power to stop NERC from reviewing tarrifs. Meanwhile this is a very good development, I don't know how Nigerians want improved power supply yet are not willing to pay for it.

We want improved power supply, but why can't we be given the prepaid meter, we are told to pay 30-50k for the prepaid, you will have the money and still you will not see it, they will be given it secretly to the highest bidder...

Ekdp refuse to share the prepaid so that they will be using all these estimated bills to meet there personal target on top no light for weeks sometimes month(s), but high bills will be coming

That's fine by me, as long as prepaid meters are available. Scrapping the fixed charges is also a welcome development.

As long as people only pay for what they actually consume, Nigerians should learn to pay the right price for a service. That is the only incentive for investors to commit their funds for long term improvement of the sector.

The telecoms model is a good example of how appropriate pricing stimulates service, competition, jobs - and ultimately - lower prices.

... You are 100% correct. It is indeed, a welcome development.
...Fash should also make sure that prepaid meters are available, if not, the useless NEPA or PHCN or whatever they call themselves, would be distributing exorbitant bills to consumers..

Why cant these discos provide prepaid meters for all before enforcing this policy.

When a govt keeps defrauding her people whither hope for justice

Bros d idea is well commendable.
Using BEDC with fixed charge of #750 & #14.82perkwh.
My last bill payment was #2000 and analysis were as follows:
Out of #2000; fixed charge=#750, vat=#95.24. Cost=#1154.75 for 78.0kwh@14.82perkwh.
Now, with same #2000 & increment by #9.26, the analysis will be thus:
14.82+9.26=#24.08perkwh,
The same 78.0kwh will cost 24.08*78.0=#1878.24, and vat=#95.24.
Therefore total payment will be 1878.24+95.24=#1973.48.
The difference now will be 2000-1973.48=#26.52 for the same unit of 78.0kwh.
That should be a good news

Gbam, scrapping the fixed charge is OK and making prepaid meters available and compulsory is OK too.
Doing away with estimated stupid crazy bills will follow suit... More honest friendly reforms are still needed in that sector......

That model won't work in power because there is no competition there just monopoly and price fixing

Strictly speaking, you are right. But there is also an economic model for regulating monopolies to ensure efficiency and fair pricing. Some sectors like Power, Rail, etc usually require huge initial investment and a reasonable time horizon to recover investment before throwing it open, else most investors will not commit such huge funds and then worry about cut-throat price competition.

If I hear, Nigerians that are dubious although not all will find way to make sure they don't pay At all. Some may not subscribe for prepaid card for one year after first purchase.

Good step in the right direction, I only hope the tariiff is now cost reflective and the Discos can now get down to real work without haggling on poor tarriff again. I also think there should be more enlightenment on the part of the public and that Nerc ensures that Discos roll out prepaid meters asap and also carry out effective power distribution and not just revenue collection

This will reduce the unnecessary power wasted at particular periods

My brother it wouldn't to a large extend. Some persons are cheaters when it comes to technology infact the system is corrupt

To add to your point, I once bought 250kwh in 2013.
It was supposed to last for 3 months. Due to epileptic power, it lasted 6 months.
I got to PHCN IKDC, at alausa only to pay 750x6=4500 naira for phcn inefficiency.
With Fashola's formula, I can choose to economize my power usage. Because there is no more pressure of fixed charges. [/size]
