they should have give us pre paid meter first before the increase

God bless you. The pre-paid meters PHCN has been hoarding and give out to those who pay over the top.

They will hold meters back more so that they can keep dishing out wildly speculative and expensive bills.

Giving out prepaid meters will make everything too transparent. And transparency is something most Nigerians in position of power despise seriously.

Can everyone afford the up to 50k pre-paid meter cost? What happened to the directive to give out pre-paid meters for free?sad

This is an insult to Nigerians! These guys are taking Nigerians for granted. If I consume 100Kw that means N1000 or N800. A flat consumes over 150 to 200kw in a month. I would rather pay 750

Let them give us prepaid meters and let's see who loses. The whole country receives 4000MW at most but billions of naira is charged monthly. With prepaid, they will only receive the true worth of the rubbish light we get.

Strictly speaking, you are right. But there is also an economic model for regulating monopolies to ensure efficiency and fair pricing. Some sectors like Power, Rail, etc usually require huge initial investment and a reasonable time horizon to recover investment before throwing it open, else most investors will not commit such huge funds and then worry about cut-throat price competition.

Your correct but whatever way we look at it ..monopoly isn't good and nigerians been what they are ..we are greedy

The only thing that can salvage this malady is simply to allow like 15 players to play in the power sector per state ...the. You will see efficiency

One thing is that competition brings in efficiency and best

But Nigeria hate competition

The scrapping of fixed charge is good but NERC need to explain in details what they mean by those increments.

It could as well mean additions to present charges per kwh.

The Increament in tariff is not good for the consumer that doesn't have a prepaid Metre.
For R2 resident under Eko distribution who were bill @ 15.63 Naira for every KWH are now going to be bill 25.63 Naira for every KWH. Now if you are on estimated billing how do you control what you consume. The only way out is let the distribution companies give out prepaid metre.

N1000 or N800 keh, check your previous bills, ikeja electricity company charge N13.25 per unit. New charge will be N13.25+N8= N21.25 which you will multiply with 150 or 200

The house of reps does not have the power to stop NERC from reviewing tarrifs. Meanwhile this is a very good development, I don't know how Nigerians want improved power supply yet are not willing to pay for it.
What improvement in electricity Nigerians don't want to pay for? The abolition of the scam called fixed charge is a welcomed idea. On the other hand, to tell Nigerians to subsidize power and call it power improvement is nothing short of exploitation. What are they really improving that Nigerians have to pay more for?

The only way leaders in africa generate revenue is through multiple taxation........this tariff has been increased more than 10 times.......in which many people don't know..........we don't have people who think outside the box just old school inept and dull leaders.....I wonder if we didn't have oil how we would have survived as a nation.........

If you have prepaid meter then this is actually an advantage. Just make your flat more energy efficient and you will consume less power.

Of course, fixed bills should be scrapped, but where are the meters? ? How many percent of Nigerians have meters even after paying for them more than thrice??

Should I add that these days, the legislative arm of government is only obeyed when it's convenient and court orders are ratified by the sole administrator before the concerned agency obeys them. As serious as that sounds, it's actually the least of our problems,

That's fine by me, as long as prepaid meters are available. Scrapping the fixed charges is also a welcome development.

As long as people only pay for what they actually consume, Nigerians should learn to pay the right price for a service. That is the only incentive for investors to commit their funds for long term improvement of the sector.

The telecoms model is a good example of how appropriate pricing stimulates service, competition, jobs - and ultimately - lower prices.
But the problem is that the greater percentage of the Nigerian populace do not have these prepaid metres in question, so they will be mostly affected by this increased tariff because they will keep on receiving estimated bills, and this time around, it will be far higher than what they are used to whether or not they didn't use the light, and this is sad

While removing the fixed charge is a good thing (Its always government officials colluding with operators to defraud Nigerians!), increasing the Electricity tariff of Nigerians by a whopping 65% and above in one go, is wicked and evil.

Every time, every successive Govt wants to defraud Nigerians, we are told that the only solution to "improved services and bring-in INVESTORS" (Regular Power Supply, Regular fuel supply, Good roads (Toll), e.t.c), is by INCREASING PRICE!

But me and you know that price has always been increased since the day of Adam (take fuel for example, which OBJ increased six times in his eight years of Govt!) ..... and "Services" have never got better nor did we see their so-called INVESTORS.... what we see are their "Nigerian scammers"!

So, its all a SCAM!

Why not improve the "service" first....... and then ask the people to pay "commensurate price", afterwards?

Fashola is a Tyrant! End of story.

And incase you are in doubt, l am a Buahri/APC supporter..... it makes no difference. Truth must be said.
