It is an obsolete refinery that cannot function efficiently and effectively any longer.

Excerpts:
AS hopes rise that Nigeria’s refineries may come on stream by December, details are emerging that the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) may not be among them, and may even need to be ‘scrapped.’

Chief among the reasons, The Guardian learnt, is because the refinery would not meet expected parameters of operation should it depend on feedstock from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

It was also learnt that the KRPC runs on ‘obsolete analogue technology and is not fit to refine Nigeria’s light crude,’ as against what obtains at Warri and Port Harcourt refineries, both of which operate advanced refining technologies.

Former Presidential Adviser on Petroleum Matters, Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah, in an interview with The Guardian, said the Kaduna refinery has bad features, which are never discussed, especially the fact that Nigeria would have to import heavy crude from Venezuela to refine at the facility, because the country’s light crude is incompatible with the refinery’s technology.

Anybody getting excited by the recent news that the refinery was back on stream should dismiss that information and face the truth.

What is our problem in this country? We are the same set of people asking the govt to repair, now they have done that we are still shouting that the refinery is analogue based. Will the government be able to give a digitally controlled refinery that will equally satisfied those conditions under 7months.
I think criticism should be constructive and not otherwise.
The OP actually have some mischief up his sleeves when posting this article.

No. The government should come clean and say this refinery is obsolete and can never work optimally. They have never told us that.
The Kaduna refinery was an idea of your president when he was NNPC chief. His idea has failed terribly and he should admit it. There is no point wasting money on an obsolete refinery, they should rather shift their focus to refineries with capacities to perform.

Mr man did you read where they said the refineries would be able to refine heavy crude, or do we start importing venezuelan orinoco grade crude to feed our refineries.
Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well, they should save whatever amount and invest in the warri and port harcourt refineries that are designed to refine the BLCO.

Exactly my response to the guy, a refinery can refine heavy crude oil and you want to feed it with Nigeria's bonny light crude oil, how on earth is it supposed to work. This is just another avenue to meet the Kachikwu's December deadline and make a case why the refineries should not be sold off. Trust me a shortwhile from now we will hear about refineries operating at 1% efficiency. We want this country to work, but some people are hell bent on calling others wailers even in scenarios where we see our very scarce resources going bananas and being allocated to fruitless ventures. The case of 37billion to be spent on oil exploration in the lake chad basin comes to mind, at a time when many Major oil companies are cutting losses by writing off certain investments (Conoco wrote off over 400million dollars invested on a drillship, shell wrote off the canadian tar sands projects, While Nigerian government that claims to be broke and does not have money for cash calls on already explored projects is spending 37billion for desert exploration).

Blame Buhari because he built that ancient of days during his time as a petroleum minister. It appears, that Buhari, due to his looting capacity and lack of fore site constructed that stone age crap which was listed as one of his useless achievements.

But I won't be surprised if some morônic sycopate blame the refinery wahala on GEJ..

It is now a monument grin

Testament to our collective cluelessness as a nation. Did the planners and builders of that refinery not know that Nigeria's crude is light and sweet so our local refinery should be designed to refine light sweet crude?

What is the wisdom in building the refinery in Kaduna in the first place?

If Nigeria extracts light crude and built a refinery for refining heavy crude, what's is the motive behind this comment?
