The OP just told a story I am very familiar with. The only difference in mine and the OP's story is the absence of my dad. This is more like the experience project. Thumbs up!!! 2 Likes |

Nice story and thank God it ended well. But if some of us decide to also write ours, hmmm,.. even the dreaded wud salute with maximum respect. IF I REMEMBER THOSE YEARS, ALL I DO IS TO SAY THANKS MUM FOR MAKING YOUR SON SEE THIS DAY WITH YOU EVERYDAY PRAYERS |

mcdokwe: For me it's my "warrior" mum that played the role your dad played. Not like I was her favourite child (I knew who that was) but she was such a tigress that I had to curtail my excesses. Her "backhand" slap was legendary amongst my siblings. They always came from your blindside and struck their targets with ferocious precision. I had to learn to anticipate them while they were booting in her brain and take evasive measures. She had a way of twisting her lips when the thought had arrived at mechanical action. I was a specialist slap dodger. Add that to the fact that I hated food and she being a nurse felt insulted by having a skinny kid. I was dealt several rounds of slap to ensure that I swallowed my food. I wasn't "wayward" like you but that's because she smelt my deviant nature early. I stole everything from biro to computer games from my classmates. And she ensured I publicly returned every of her discovery. Mehn I just got tired of the embarrassments. Till this day I still have a love for fancy pens though I don't "pinch" them anymore. God grant her eternal rest. And I'm NOT sorry to say that I sometimes torture my girl by comparing her to my mum but I DO NOT THINK THERE EVER WAS OR WILL BE A WOMAN BETTER. The fights she fought with my dad cos of me is a different kettle of boiling hot water 4 Likes |

This is very interesting. Now that what you are stealing at home cannot sustain you, you are now pifering on peoples emotion to get your daily bread |

Such words do have far reaching effects than any other corrective measure could ever have. I can relate. Meanwhile nice story. You have an excellent command of diction which is uncommon with those that grew up in such neighbourhood as you painted. 2 Likes |
