@Soft777 and Robonski, me i don carry my kaya port sharp, sharp, only be say there seems to be no river not to talk of PORT in this area. On a serious note how are you going to accommodate Abuja people and other parts of the north where fish farming is still at the kindergarten?

Most of us farmers here are suffering in silence because of few monopolising the business. Imagine pelletising here cost as much as 40-50 per kg depending on the type of the feed. With these arrangement how do we get adequate supply of the feed when the people from the South have already taken position?

How do we register?

Again you guys are hot, i mean you re doing great.

@Ttalk. U dont need to run if you know your way. Many Farmers are making it in the North and they dont pelletize for 40-50 as u claimed. We have market here.

That is what they charge in popular Feedmill in Abuja [I wont mention the name] but would want to know where i can pelletise between 10-15 in Abuja and its environs.

Thank you

Edited:
The one you referred me to charge 50naira and agree to do it for me at 40naira provided im ready to pelletise minimum of 500kg. Maybe they have different prices for different people. How much do they charge you since you also pelletise there?

Chai if you can't beat them you join them cheesy cheesy

Ha Ha ja Ha Ha..... Bros, you bet you join if you can't beat but for your information, I won't try to beat them because they are the guru and I am the novice, however, I don't flow names but mission and vision with purpose and with the clarification (leave all paparazilzi on the thread alone tongue tongue tongue)

Sorry if I disappointed you by not jumping all because you expected ALL to jump, I check night and depth before such jump.

And like the other gentleman said, I don't create padi in business.... I form forces and alliance that will withstand....

Finally, at the end of the day it is about fish farming and smiling to the bank and in an association, I have been reminded that it a "we" decision and not "I"
I remain you humble Novice.

Hello sir, we will try as much as possible to accommodate Abuja farmers, though it will be a gradual process but we will surely get there.. once the feed start rolling out we first distribute here in the west, before shipping down to the north, we will have an outlet in abuja for easy access. I am planning on adding one more pelletizing machine, to boost production.. Just as we had too many orders on our fingerlings/juveniles we had to triple production this December to meet demand starting January.. Boss its lot of work but we gonna take it a step at a time. Cheers

These are the names we have suggested so far, lets choose one and move to the next level.

Whenever @Soft777 and @Robonski15 speaks ,we see charisma at its best....Thank u both and every other guru in the house for your advice's and good motive for fish farmers in Nigeria (Though I'm still aspiring to be one) .

My little contribution on the proposed association to be formed is for us to try and contact the heads of other existing associations. Share this vision with them . Make them see the benefits of coming together, in that way you would reach out to many farmers at a time and grow the network of farmers in the shortest time possible.

On the feed & seed distribution since you are adopting zones/location as basis of distribution their should be a maximum&equal capacity to each zone per month. In so doing it will ensure steady and even circulation.

Above all else I think the said union should emphasize more on price of catfish to take that from the buyers(iya elejas as u call them). This should be the most important factor of forming this group as most of the other benefits some fish farmers may have alternatives to solving their problems.
My humble opinion.

NUVEMBARZINTL:

@Fheemmmy: 10Q for ur contribution. It was well said. But just as I said earlier on the thread:
"I think there's a need to come up with an overall single association that will bear that name; an identity that shows through its name without any explanation wether home or abroad that THIS IS AN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN'S FISH FARMERS.
My people, we don't have such an association for now. Rather, what we have is different people in different locality, registering a name for themselves. For instance, I belonged to GRASSROOT FARMERS ASSOCIATION in PortHarcourt, a registered association but we don't have it in other part of the country.

Now, we are advocating for a body that will shoulder all the responsibilities of all sub-grps. Many of these associations in existence has not and cannot even meet with the government face to face. Pls, my people, we need an overall body. For instance, we have so many workers and trader associations and grps under NLC, same goes for football where all other sub-associations all over the world meets under FIFA. In the same vein, I dnt see the creation of this very association as a threat to the existing ones.

Without slighting any existence association (we are all to achieve an end), but can anyone or any member of such association tell us any benefit or recognition that they've achieved from the govt, feed producing company, ministry of agriculture, Federal Institute of Oceanography and Marine Technology and the rest?

Pls, this move for registration of an association isn't a poower tussle for superiority but a neccesity for us all".

Wiushing you all the very best!!!

Lofty idea!
Great in theory.
But you guys need to do your homework.
Are you the government that you want to form an umbrella body?
What are your antecedents? You track record?
How many years experience?
What is the size and impact of your personal farms to the Nigerian local economy?
You want an umbrella body, great and fine, but who knows you in the society?
No insult intended. Just an eye-opener and reality check on what this entails.

Sorry, who is or will be the chairman of the association?
Does Nigeria know him or her?
What is his clout in the general scheme of things?

Oh! Lest I forget the most important question of all!
IS THERE NO UMBRELLA ASSOCIATION ALREADY??
The state Agric bodies nko?
Or the Federal?
What are they? PARACHUTE? abi dem be CANOPY?

Now let's come back to the GRASSROOTS...
So you expect the other 'private' associations to just fall in line and join this new "MESSIAHish" association?
Because you have all the solutions?

Let's wake up please and stop all these Merry go round that leads us no where.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK WELL.

Your idea is not new, just ask other associations. ITS IN THEIR CONSTITUTIONS too!!!

Let me advise you guys, Go for a 6-month internship at the STATE AND FEDERAL ASSOCIATIONS. Then come back and tell us the way forward.

For now, THERE ARE TOO MANY HOLES IN YOUR "IDEA".

Unless if, of course, your true purpose of forming the association is hidden from we the minions.

There's always a conspiracy theory somewhere.

I'm out.

I know u ve seen a lot of failed associations with their empty promises, all for the personal interest of those who created the so called association. But I think u should give robinski and soft77 a chance., after all ur farm has been running with or without their help and it will continue running with or without anybody's help. Try and give a benefit if the doubt please

Why is there so much opposition to the idea of forming an association ?.
If Robonski wants to be the Boss of the association is there anything immoral about it?. If he wants to become the BIG FISH of the industry and aim to rule the whole market in africa whether it's realist or not is nobody's business. No one is being forced to join.
Nigeria is big enough to accomodate all. Besides why should anyone think that his lofty vision is not realistic ? Mankind has been successfully building castles in the skies for millennias. It wasn't realistic to fly a century ago but today it is normal. Yesterday Dangote was only an importer of cement but today he is the cement king of Africa. Pls lets tone down these arguements and concentrate on the primary purpose of this thread. All the newbies like myself do not need these distractions. Thanks.
