How To Sell Plantain In Profitable Markets In Nigeria by Lesgupnigeria(m): 5:31pm On Dec 24, 2015 |
Marketing is one of the important things to consider when venturing into agribusiness.I have always say that you can sell any Agric products but at what price? Is the price profitable or not? I consider my market first before farming any crop;I asked myself questions before starting any venture, how do I sell my produce? Whom should I sell to?and at what price? which I believe you should ask yourself as well before starting. This is very important in any agribusiness venture. That's why I only specialise in crops that have good market for its uptake when produced. Different crop have different market chain and you should be well versed with in it.The way you will sell plantain is different from cassava or watermelon. Different crop with different market. Plantain as one of my favourite crop is highly lucrative if you are able to get your sales right. There are 2 ways you can sell your plantain in Nigeria. 1.Through the local markets- Mile12,ikorodu ,ketu markets e.t.c 2.Selling to companies processing flour and chips The first way is not only unreliable, its not all that profitable. You are going to be taken advantage of using the first way and this is majorly where 95% of farmers used to sell their plantain. This market is subjected to supply and demand; that is if you have many farmers bringing plantain to the market, the prices falls rapidly and vice versa. The only time the market price is high and not subjected to the law of demand and supply is during August of every year but the question is Am I going to wait till every August each year to make money? The truth is that the processing companies have the capacity to process but the quality of the quantities of what they need is the challenge. Most plantain farmers are not producing the quality these companies need and the farmers are forced to sell at the local market where they are taken advantage of. The companies i partner with in selling my plantain demand from us to produce the plantain variety that have the characteristics of what they need. This is because most of the other varieties reduces the quality of their plantain flour. Selling to the processing companies requires that you know what they need before producing it. Thats why I can be confident of ready made market for my plantain farm, those I am currently managing their farm and those that already have the Giant French horn variety on their farm. I am also currently working with a plantain flour company of 20T/day capacity to get more local farmers to cultivate more of the plantain to improve their income This is the best way to sell profitably your plantain. Modified: Myself and some of the successful, prominent agroprenuers in Nigeria just started an online mentoring programme, If you are a newbie who wants to explore the agribusiness industry, it's strongly advices that you join the mentorship. it will save you a lot of stress, increase your success rate as we share our experiences, challenges and how to overcome them and make tons of money Kindly register using the link below https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ig5vI2AuEgrrcKU-3i_tQz4dfjVuaIAbLdFpcDw30_g This is our own way of assisting Nigerians interested in the business of agriculture. 5 Likes 1 Share

There is a required number of bunch you can sell to break even, having lesser than that will not get you your expected returns. Whenever people tells me that they are starting on a plot of land,I tell them they can start to get more knowledge and skills but not to make money;even breaking even is not possible with plots of land not to talk of making profit.. |

This has always been my concern considering the fact that theres only a limited time before the plantaim ripens and turns black. Lesgetupnigeria. I want to begin plantain farming next year. And ill love to know when to start looking for buyers. I know the chips company pays. They sell and produce chips daily. How does one go about it? Making sure sales goes smoothly. And does farming on an acre or 2 acres of land guarantees profit? |

Lesgupnigeria:1. What is the minimum number of acres required to break-even, breakthrough and break-forth? 2. Is it advisable to cultivate plantain in different locations (as an investor who believes in not putting all of one's eggs in one basket)? Kindly advise. 1 Like 1 Share |

lesgupnigeria, I have read your other posts on plantain. It is interesting to know that something worthwile is happening here. I have been pregnant with idea of going back to my father's land to start farming after I have swore I won't till land before I eat again in life. I was contemplating to cultivate plantain and cassava. Luckily I stumble on this thread. My land is located at Igbo-Iga inbetween Sunwa and Ijaka-Isale in Yewa North, Ogun State. As that place is closer to Owode-Ketu and Igbogila you mentioned are being ravaged by disease, what is the risk of bunchies disease in my location? What advice you have for me on the marketability of both plantain and cassava from that zone? Can you deliver your improved suckers at discount when buying in bulk to my location. I've had more than 20 years of farming experience though. |

Johnnyessence:Yeah. No knowledge is a waste as an acquired knowledge can be a driver channeling your path to a higher pedestal of life. When I was fully into farming, I tought it to be suffering of highest order but after schooling and runnel of fruitless efforts searching for job, I discover why farmers always have rest and peace of mind: work is always available and sheer freedom accompany it. |

It can be delivered to your farm anywhere in the country. There is ready made market for both crops.you can call me on 08164628081,08092034147 to discuss further. |

Many farmers want to start processing to add value to their produce but did you realised that processing is another complex value chain that require professional feasibility study with on-the-point market research to succeed? Get concrete information on prospective processed product quality, selling price, cost of sale e.t.c before starting. it is better you sell to other established companies than start yours and get it wrong. 2 Likes 1 Share |
